En Studie av Pi Patel’s Copingstrategier i Life of Pi : Religion och coping

Hendi, Haya January 2024 (has links)
This study examines how religion is portrayed in the movie Life of Pi (2012) and how the main character Pi Patel uses his faith to deal with and survive various challenges. People deal with challenges in different ways, and this study focuses on the combination of divine and human resources in the coping process. The aim is to explore Pi's use of religion through a content analysis of the movie, with particular focus on coping theory and the functional definition of religion as a theoretical framework. The analysis shows that Pi faces several difficulties on the lifeboat, such as an aggressive tiger, lack of food and water, as well as feelings of loneliness and hopelessness. To master these challenges, Pi combines emotional and practical coping strategies, where religion plays a central role. Religion gives him not only support and guidance but also motivation and companionship. The religion also contributes to his development as a person and causes him to embrace three religions. Through this study, we can better understand how religion can function as a coping mechanism and contribute to people's survival and development in extreme situations.

Effects of age on behavioural and eye gaze on Theory of Mind using Movie for Social Cognition

Yong, Min Hooi, Waqas, Muhammad, Ruffman, T. 22 January 2024 (has links)
Yes / Evidence has shown that older adults have lower accuracy in Theory-of-Mind (ToM) tasks compared to young adults, but we are still unclear whether the difficulty in decoding mental states in older adults stems from not looking at the critical areas, and more so from the ageing Asian population. Most ToM studies use static images or short vignettes to measure ToM but these stimuli are dissimilar to everyday social interactions. We investigated this question using a dynamic task that measured both accuracy and error types, and examined the links between accuracy and error types to eye gaze fixation at critical areas (e.g. eyes, mouth, body). A total of 82 participants (38 older, 44 young adults) completed the Movie for the Assessment of Social Cognition task on the eye tracker. Results showed that older adults had a lower overall accuracy with more errors in the ipo-ToM (under-mentalising) and no-ToM (lack of mentalisation) conditions compared to young adults. We analysed the eye gaze data using principal components analysis and found that increasing age and looking less at the face were related to lower MASC accuracy in our participants. Our findings suggest that ageing deficits in ToM are linked to a visual attention deficit specific to the perception of socially relevant nonverbal cues. / This study was funded by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (FRGS/1/2016/SS05/SYUC/03/2) awarded to M.H.Y.

「建構一個全方位的電影基地」行動研究 / To Build An All-Purpose Movie Operational Base

石靜文, Shih, Chin Wen Unknown Date (has links)
The objective is to build an all-purpose movie operational base and overcome any possible complications regardless the scale of them. The Information Bureau of Taichung City Government has started implementing the construction of “ Mid-Taiwan Movie Promotion Park” since 2011. The research unit for this particular project is also the project promoter and the executor. In other words, this project researcher was able to personally participate and inspect the production process through in person observation where the researcher could reflect on the adjustment made to target key issues in the park establishing process. The project researcher categorizes and analyzes these the park establishment strategy and analyzed results may also be affected by various human and environment factors. The purpose of this research is to have the analysis brought to the public and thus makes a positive impact for similar future projects. The researcher utilizes a system circulation concept and further demonstrates and clarifies this concept via diagram and visual presentation. The system circulation concept not only compares the result after modifications and the initial goal, but also bridges the relation between the result and the initial goal. The research reveals the following listed below: 1.The relationship between movies related policies and city marketing could be direct, positive, and constructive simultaneously. 2.It is typical that unpredictable barriers appear during the construction period. 3.Friendly constructive communication and coordination could be a key factor that affects the project outcome. 4.Appropriate response could result a better-then-expected outcome. Suggested strategies according to the research listed below: 1.An all-purpose movie culture and its related industries policies should be supported and promoted in a persistent and everlasting manner. 2.Although proposed plan may not always implement accordingly, the big picture is to stay adhere to goal, purpose, and principle and continue to cultivate talents. 3.It is particularly important to reason rationally and coordinate to reach a mutual aim when parties express difference aspirations and perspectives. 4.Changes could motivate breakthrough and, at the same time, it is crucial to keep the past in the back of the mind and note from the it.

In the footsteps of the fellowship : understanding the expectations and experiences of Lord of the rings tourists on guided tours in New Zealand

Buchmann, Anne-Kristina January 2007 (has links)
This study seeks to gain an insight into the experiences Lord of the Rings tourists have on guided tours in New Zealand and the role of the tour guide(s) in that experience. The study examines motivations, expectations, actual experience and its evaluation and the role of the tour leader and guides. By drawing primarily on the results of qualitative research that examined the experience of film tourists and other people involved in the film tourism industry over a span of three years, I identified underlying motivations involved in the production and consumption of film tourism. The study found that pre-tour images of Lord of the Rings and its publicity surrounding the making of the films play a significant role in the formation of film tourists' expectations. The emotional relationship towards the films and the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien had motivated film tourists to seek a meaningful and sincere experience. Furthermore, the film and its making as discussed on the DVDs, further publicised myths like the authenticity of the film production itself and the experience of great meaning for one's personal life. Consequently, the study found that most film tourists put a high significance on the sincerity of the relationships within the tour community and with the tour leader and guide(s). The film location visit itself was experienced as highly rewarding but was significantly enhanced by the presence of the tour community ('fellowship'), reenactments and the physical presence on site. This embodiment was crucial for the overall experience as it further authenticated the location visit but also the journey itself as a worthy and spiritual endeavour. It was shown that the New Zealand image of 'green', 'clean' and 'exotic otherness' has been reinforced by multiple media portraits and matches many aspects of the Middle-earth image. All film tourists judged the use of New Zealand for the portrayal of Middle-earth as 'authentic' even if they knew about J.R.R. Tolkien's British background. Furthermore, they judged their film tourism experience as authentic even though the locations were used in a fictional setting. Thus the notions of object authenticity was explored and replaced with the concepts of existential authenticity and sincerity to shift the focus towards the active process of negotiation of authenticity in the tourism experience. To understand tourists' behaviour and motivation, notions of 'spirituality' and 'pilgrimage' were also employed. The study tourists undertook a meaningful and spiritually significant journey that was enhanced through the experience of embodiment and community which suggested parallels between the religious pilgrim and the secular film tourist. Both are on a meaningful journey to distant places and follow scripted guidelines while also creating their own experience. Embodiment played an important role. Furthermore, film tourists sought the community of other believers and were willing to 'follow in the footsteps' of film stars and crew when choosing which film locations and eateries to visit as they sought places that had attained an 'aura'.

Ekon från det förflutna : En analys av dinosaurieljud inom film / Echoes from the past : An analysis of dinosaur sound in film

Wassberg, John January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to critically question what Michel Chion calls the audiovisual contract and research how it works in different contexts within the world of film. As well as increasing the understanding of how sound, image and documentary elements affect us to accept what we see in films and series. The focus will be on dinosaurs as there is nothing that can confirm what it looked like or sounded like. As a basis for this research, the work of sound designers will be taken into account as well as methods that Bill Nichols wrote about, which are used in film. Areas of focus will be authenticity and sound from an audiovisual perspective.

Globální přesah české dokumentární tvorby prezentované v rámci festivalu Jeden svět (2008-2018) / Global Overlap of Czech documentary film presented within International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival One World Festival (2008-2018)

Fenclová, Anežka January 2020 (has links)
The following thesis offers an insight into a collection of documentary movies, which were screened in the category Czech Competition (Česká sekce) presented by the film festival One World (Jeden svět), as well as the nomination process behind it. The first section of the Body of this Thesis (Practical Part) is focused on the nomination process. In particular its objective is to describe principal changes in the nomination process and at the same time outline its future developments. This is achieved by means of exclusive interviews with five Program Section members in charge of the nomination process (both former and contemporary). Heightened attention is being dedicated to the films nominated for the Czech Competition section with regards to its specifics. The other part of the thesis body is based on thorough analysis of the films selected for the Czech competition between the years 2010-2019. By means of original interviews and content analysis the thesis attempts to establish an idea of which features are significant for the films representing the Czech Republic at this documentary film festival and what conclusions can be drawn from this about the Czech documentary film scene in general. The theoretical part of the thesis offers sourcing this approach in expert literature.

A Beautiful Wife Makes a Happy Husband : A CADS-based study on collocates to ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ throughout times in both movies and contemporary culture / En vacker maka skapar en lycklig make : En CADS-baserad studie om kollokationer till "make" och "maka" genom tiderna i både filmer och samtida kultur

Strandberg, Anna January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the differences between what collocations are used for ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ in films and contemporary culture. The comparison spans through different decades and the decades will also be compared and analysed. The thesis will investigate if the collocates reflect the societal change and if so, can the results relate to existing power structures/gender roles? The background for the thesis consists of information about marriage history, films and their influence on culture, what a collocation is and previous research on collocation. The method used for this thesis was Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies which includes both corpus studies and discourse analysis. Consequently, a more in-depth understanding of the results and tables were given. To classify the collocates collected from the Movie Corpus (which represents movies) and the Corpus of Historical American English (representing culture) the results are presented Caldas-Coulthard and Moon’s categorisation schema. After this, in the discussion, the proportional distribution is presented because the corpora are different sizes and this way they can be compared correctly. The conclusion is that movies reflect culture somewhat, but it lacks in some areas. However, some patterns can be found. ‘Wife’ and ‘husband’ are discussed differently, and the difference in collocates shows that. Moreover, the results seem to reflect typical stereotypes that do exist and has existed.
