The pedagogue's commitment – how it affects the student in afterschool centers : A qualitative study on what can cause a lack of commitment and how it affects the student

Schwerin, Johanna, Muñoz, Malin January 2022 (has links)
Being engaged can look different for each individual. So what does it mean to be a committed pedagogue at the after-school center today and how are students given a meaningful leisure time? The purpose of this study is to investigate how the student is affected by the pedagogue's commitment to the after-school center and what the reason may be to why the commitment is lacking. Our study is qualitative and the methods we have used are both structured and participatory observations together with subsequent group discussions with students. Our conclusion is that the pedagogue's commitment affects the student and has a great importance for motivation and the student's further desire to learn. It is the pedagogue who should be the confident, supportive, inspiring and motivating adult role model who gives the student the right conditions for further development and learning with regard to each student's individual characteristics. However, we see that the commitment can be difficult to maintain due to the framework factors that often set limits in leisure activities. Therefore, we hope, with our study, to highlight the importance of being engaged as an pedagogue and to give an eye-opener to what should be changed for the after-school centers to be of the best quality.

Assistant-nurses in home care : Does work experience influence the experience of meaningfulness and social support at work?

Svensson, Jasmine, Åhberg, Josefine January 2023 (has links)
Problem: There are increasingly high demands on nursing staff and sickness absence is high among assistant nurses. In care and socialcare, psychosocial workloads occur. This has sparked interest in investigating the psychosocial work environment of assistant nurses. Purpose: This study investigates whether professional experience has an impact on the psychosocial factors, meaningfulness and social support for assistant nurses in home care. Theory: The study's theoretical framework is based on Herzberg's hygiene and motivation theory, the demand-control-support model and sense of coherense (KASAM). Method: The study was based on a quantitative methodology. The study's selection method was based on convenience sampling. The sample consisted of assistant nurses who worked in three municipalities (Skövde, Skara & Tibro). A total of 71 respondents answered the survey. To analyze the data, two regression analyzes were carried out. Results: The result could not demonstrate that the dependent variable professional experience affects the two independent variables meaningfulness and social support. The analysis also checked the effects of gender, age and municipality. It is interesting to note that the factors gender and municipality the assistant nurses worked in affect (p <0.05) social support.

The adult in the room controls the wellbeing of the children : A qualitative study on how relationships between educare centre teachers and students affect the wellbeing of students

Adler, Pernilla, Jilg, Joanna January 2023 (has links)
Our study is within the field of leisure education and the purpose of our study is to investigate educare centre teachers' views on whether there is a connection between their relationships with the students and students’ wellbeing. Previous research shows that there is a connection between good teacher-student relationships and students' wellbeing. To collect answers to our inquiries we have interviewed six certificated teachers in Swedish School age educare centre from three different schools in the Stockholm area, and examine how they concretely work with the students' wellbeing and educare centre teachers’ views on relationships. The study isqualitative and based on structured interviews. The research showed that the educare centreteachers see a connection between the work in relationship-building and the students' wellbeing. However, the results casted, challenges for large student groups and how it affects the work in relationship buildings. Subsequently, the result has been analyzed based on Antonovsky's theory SoC, sense of coherence, which includes three components; comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness. Finally, the study is discussed in relation to previous research, chosen method, proposals for continued research and how the study can contribute to professional development.

Sense of coherence, work engagement and organisational commitment within an automotive development institution

Pillay, Kogie 10 1900 (has links)
This research explores the relationship between sense of coherence, work engagement and organisational commitment in an automotive development institution in South Africa. The study was conducted through quantitative research. The study used the Orientation to Life Questionnaire (OLQ) to measure sense of coherence, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) to measure work engagement and the Organisational Commitment Scale (OCS) to measure organisational commitment. A biographical questionnaire was also used. The questionnaires were administered to a sample of 46 employees, 37 of whom were based in the company’s Pretoria office and nine at their Eastern Cape office. In view of the fact that the sample was small, 100 % of the population was included in the study. A theoretical relationship between the constructs was determined and an empirical study provided evidence of the degree of relationship that existed between them. The results reveal significant relationships to exist between some sub-scales, however, statistical significance could not be reached for some correlations. / Psychology / M. Admin. Adulthood as an existential-ethical continuum in andragogic perspective and its implications for education

Robb, William McCall 01 1900 (has links)
This philosophical, anthropological study within a fundamental agogic perspective, employed an existential phenomenological approach to find out what adulthood is, fundamentally. Adulthood as being-ethical, is a more adequate description than chronological, biological, psychological and sociological descriptions of adulthood. Finding out what being-ethical is, required investigating what it means to be human. Only humans exist, and must participate effectively in agogic-dialogic relationships to alleviate existential yearning and experience dignifiedness. A code of effective agogy is presented. This code is the basis for a universal, fundamental code of ethics which transcends particular moral codes and professional codes of ethics. The words "ethicals", "ethicalness" and "ethicality" are employed to name, respectively, individual requirements in the code; acting according to the code; and the inescapable interrelatedness of experiencing dignifiedness and adhering to ethicals. Detailed explanations are given of what it means to respond fundamentally ethically. Adultness, humanness and ethicalness are different perceptions of the same continuum. All humans, whether aware of it or not, have an unattainable ideal of perfect humanness, to which they must perennially progress in order to experience dignifiedness, and humanness entails perennially becoming more human. Since no human can become perfectly human, the ideal of perfect humanness can be called "God". This means that the code of humanness is also the code of Godliness and the word "spiritual" is used to distinguish fundamental God from religious Gods. Spiritual responsibility is the interrelatedness of being-questioning and being-questioned. Ultimately, a person's humanness is assessed against the ideal of perfect humanness, by his or her own spiritual conscience. Humanity is the interrelatedness of the realities of existentiality, agogicality, ethicality, and spirituality and humanness is the inseparability of the continua of existentialness, ethicalness, agogicalness and spiritualness. A detailed existential-ethical description of education is given. The thesis ends with a post-scientific view of what essentially agogic orientated (educative) teaching is, and four recommendations are offered to enhance the effectiveness of agogy in teaching and learning institutions. Despite an extensive and radical study, it is acknowledged that the mystery that is humanity, can never be totally revealed. / Educational Studies / D. Ed. (Philosophy of Education)

Verwantskap van sin vir koherensie met werkstres, algemene gesondheid en sielkundige uitbranding by bestuurders / The realtionship of sense of coherence with workstress, general health and psychological burnout at managerial level

Diedericks, Johanna Catharina 11 1900 (has links)
This study focuses on the relationship between sense of coherence as an intrinsic coping mechanism. and work stress, general health and psychological burnout. To measure these variables, questionnaires were completed by 200 managers. The findings of this study indicate that managers with a high sense of coherence experience good general health. The manager with a high sense of coherence should therefore junction more efficiently in a work situation·than the manager with a low sense of coherence. It was also found that a high sense of coherence does not necessarily lead to low levels of stress nor of psychological burnout. Recommentfations are made on how to reduce the negative effects of stress and psychological burnout and how to improve general health in order to make optimal use of the manager's potential. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / MCom (Bedryfsielkunde)

Burnout, work engagement and sense of coherence in nurses working at a central hospital in KwaZulu Natal

Maturure, Talent 03 1900 (has links)
The key objective of this study was to determine the relationship between burnout (measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS)), work engagement (measured by the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale), and sense of coherence (measured by the Orientation of Life Questionnaire developed by Antonovsky (1987)). A quantitative study using a cross-sectional survey research design was conducted on a randomly selected sample (N = 178) of nurses at a central hospital in Kwa-Zulu Natal. A theoretical relationship was established between the variables. The empirical relationship revealed statistically significant negative relationship between burnout and work engagement. A statistically significant negative relationship was also established between burnout and SOC. The findings add valuable knowledge to industrial and organisational psychology and can be applied to promote employee and organisational wellness. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.
