Iterative low-complexity multiuser detection and decoding for coded UWB systems

Sathish, Arun D. 07 1900 (has links)
In general, ultra wideband (UWB) signals are transmitted using ~'eIYshort pulses m tiIae domain, thus promising very high data rates. In this thesis, a recei'ler structure is proposed for decoding multiuser information data in a convolutionally coded UWB system. The proposed iterative receiver has three stages: a pulse detector, a symbol detector, and a channel decoder. Each of these stages outputs soft values, which are used as a priori information in the next iteration. Simulation results show that the proposed system can provide performance very close to a single-user system. / Thesis (M.S.)--Wichita State University, College of Engineering, Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering. / "July 2006." / Incluldes bibliographic references (leaves 29-31)

Transmission of vector quantization over a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading CDMA channel

Nguyen, Son Xuan 19 December 2005
Recently, the transmission of vector quantization (VQ) over a code-division multiple access (CDMA) channel has received a considerable attention in research community. The complexity of the optimal decoding for VQ in CDMA communications is prohibitive for implementation, especially for systems with a medium or large number of users. A suboptimal approach to VQ decoding over a CDMA channel, disturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), was recently developed. Such a suboptimal decoder is built from a soft-output multiuser detector (MUD), a soft bit estimator and the optimal soft VQ decoders of individual users. <p>Due to its lower complexity and good performance, such a decoding scheme is an attractive alternative to the complicated optimal decoder. It is necessary to extend this decoding scheme for a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading CDMA channel, a channel model typically seen in mobile wireless communications. This is precisely the objective of this thesis. <p>Furthermore, the suboptimal decoders are obtained not only for binary phase shift keying (BPSK), but also for M-ary pulse amplitude modulation (M-PAM). This extension offers a flexible trade-off between spectrum efficiency and performance of the systems. In addition, two algorithms based on distance measure and reliability processing are introduced as other alternatives to the suboptimal decoder. <p>Simulation results indicate that the suboptimal decoders studied in this thesis also performs very well over a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading CDMA channel.

Joint Design of Precoders and Decoders for CDMA Multiuser Cooperative Networks

Liu, Jun-tin 07 September 2011 (has links)
In this paper, we consider the code division multiple access of the multiuser cooperative network system, all sources transmit signals using assigned spreading waveforms in first phase, and all relays transmit precoded signals using a common spreading waveform to help send signals to all destinations in second phase, in order to improve the performance. In this paper, we proposed the precoding strategy of relay point and the decoding strategy of destination point; at first we use the zero-forcing to eliminate the multi-user interferen- ce at the destination, and then joint design of the precoding vector at relay point and the decoding vector at destination point to achieve different optimization objectives. In this paper, we consider the power constraints to optimal the average SNR for the precoding vector and decoding vector, but the precoding vector favors the source-destination pairs with better channel quality in this condition, we also present the design of fairness, joint design of the precoding vector and the decoding vector to make the worst SNR can have the best signal-to-noise ratio after the design, and also consider the power constrain.

Adaptive DS-CDMA Receivers with Fast Tracking Capability for Wireless Communications

Sun, Chun-hung 25 April 2007 (has links)
The direct sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) is one of the most promising multiplexing technologies for wireless communications. It is also a core technology used in the wideband CDMA (WCDMA) system for the third generation (3G) wireless communication systems. In practice, in the CDMA systems the incomplete orthogonal of the spreading codes between users may introduce the so-called multiple access interference (MAI). Usually, the near-far problem exists when the interfering users are assigned powers much higher than the desired user. Such that the system performance might degrade, dramatically, and thus limits the system capacity. To circumvent the above-mentioned problems many effective adaptive multiuser detectors, based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) and the minimum output energy (MOE) criteria subject to certain constraints have been proposed. In addition, to mitigate multipath fading effect, RAKE receiver was adopted due to the advantages of path diversity, thus, enhances the system performance. To implement the blind adaptive multiuser detector the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV), which is the constrained version of MOE, has been suggested. Further, the LCMV-based receivers exhibit high sensitivity to the channel mismatch caused by the unreliable estimation. To deal with this problem the constant modulus (CM) criterion was considered. In this dissertation, to deal with diverse phenomena encountered in practical channels, we first propose new blind adaptive multi-user detectors, based on the Min/Max criterion associated with the LCCM approach. For implementation the LC exponential window (EW) recursive least-square (RLS) algorithm is derived, and is referred to as the EW LCCM-RLS receiver. It can be used to effectively suppress the MAI and ISI, simultaneously, over multipath fading channels and are robust to mismatch problem caused by inaccuracies in the acquisition of timing and spreading code of the desired user. To reduce the complexity of the above-mentioned blind adaptive multi-user receiver with the LCCM-RLS algorithm, the so-called generalized sidelobe-canceller (GSC) structure is adopted, results in obtaining new CM-GSC-RLS algorithm. Moreover, to further improve the system performance for multipath fading and time-varying channel, the sliding window (SW) LCCM-RLS and SW CM-GSC-RLS algorithms are developed. It can be employed for multipath fading channel with the rapidly changing strong narrowband interference (NBI), which is joined suddenly to the CDMA systems. To look more inside the effect of selecting the initial value of the input signals autocorrelation matrix, some theoretical analyses for the SW LC-RLS as well as EW LC-RLS are provided. Since, unfortunately, the LCCM criterion is known to highly depend on the exact knowledge of the desired user amplitude that is not known exactly at receiver. In the final of this dissertation, a novel linearly constrained adaptive constant modulus RLS (LC-ACM-RLS) algorithm for blind DS-CDMA receiver is proposed. With this new proposed LC-ACM-RLS algorithm, the amplitude variation of the desired user, due to changing characteristics of the channel, can be tracked adaptively. Thus, better performance achievement, in terms of output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER), over the conventional LCCM-LMS and LCCM-RLS algorithms can be expected.

Quantum cryptography : security analysis of multiuser quantum communication with embedded authentication

Lunemann, Carolin January 2006 (has links)
Three quantum cryptographic protocols of multiuser quantum networks with embedded authentication, allowing quantum key distribution or quantum direct communication, are discussed in this work. The security of the protocols against different types of attacks is analysed with a focus on various impersonation attacks and the man-in-the-middle attack. On the basis of the security analyses several improvements are suggested and implemented in order to adjust the investigated vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the impact of the eavesdropping test procedure on impersonation attacks is outlined. The framework of a general eavesdropping test is proposed to provide additional protection against security risks in impersonation attacks.

Application of Array Processing Techniques to CDMA Multiuser Detection Systems

Chang, Ann-Chen 11 May 2000 (has links)
Several issues on the problems of the adaptive array beamforming and code-division multiple access (CDMA) multiuser detection are investigated in this dissertation. Recently, based on the decomposition of observation vector space into two orthogonal eigenspace, the eigenspace-based (ESB) and the generalized eigenspace-based (GEIB) array signal processing techniques have been widely discussed due to their superior performance over conventional techniques. At first, the purpose of this dissertation is mainly to present robust and efficient algorithms for further enhancing the performance of ESB and GEIB techniques under imperfect and practical operation environments. We also propose a method of corrected steering angles to combat the supersensitivity of eigenanalysis interference canceler (EIC) to source number overestimation and steering angle errors. We analyze the performance of several ESB multiuser detectors, including conventional direct-form detector and generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) for synchronous CDMA system with and without desired user code mismatch. We also present a way of resolving spreading code mismatch in blind multiuser detection with subspace-based technique. Furthermore, the structure of GSC can be utilized to deal with the case of the desired user's SNR < 0 dB. Next, algorithm for adaptive H¡Û filter has demonstrated the advantage of reduction of sensitivity to modeling error (due to finite tap number) and suitability for arbitrary ambient noise over recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm. However, the computational burden of the H¡Û algorithm is enormous. In order to reduce the computational complexity, subweight partition scheme is employed to an H¡Û-based algorithm. The computation burden of the conventional adaptive H¡Û algorithm can be mitigated with slight performance degradation. The H¡Û-based algorithm is then further extended to the adaptive beamformer and blind multiuser detector. Finally, we present new diversity techniques for multiuser detection under multipath fading channels in asynchronous CDMA systems. The enhanced capacity of diversity for multipath channels can be achieved by appropriately utilizing the constraint matrix and the response vector in multiple constraint minimum variance (MCMV) algorithm. Moreover, the proposed techniques offer gratifying multiple access interference (MAI) suppression. We also incorporate the signal subspace-based projection into MCMV detector, so that the noise enhancement in the MCMV criterion can be reduced.

Multiuser Interference Cancellation in Multicarrier CDMA System with Constrained Adaptive Inverse QRD-RLS Algorithm

Liao, Tai-Yin 09 July 2001 (has links)
In this thesis, the multi-carrier (MC) code division multiple access (CDMA) system is considered in Rayleigh fading channel. The main concern of this thesis is to devise a new direct linearly constrained constant modulus (LCCM) inverse QRD-RLS algorithm for multiple access interference (MAI) cancellation and the problem due to the mismatch of the channel estimator. In the conventional approach, two significant detectors are applied to the system for multiuser interference suppression, one is the blind adaptation algorithm and the other is adaptive linearly constrained PLIC approach. However, the mirror effect may occur when the blind adaptation algorithm is employed. It might affect the performance in terms of bit error rate (BER), although the desired signal to interference (due to other users) improvement is still acceptable. Moreover, in case that the channel coefficients could not be estimated perfectly, the mismatch problem may occur to degrade the performance of the adaptive linearly constrained PLIC approach with the LMS or RLS algorithm. To overcome the mismatch problem, the conventional approach is to use the LCCM criterion with gradient algorithm. However, the convergence rate of the gradient algorithm is too slow to be implemented in real-time wireless communication system. In this thesis, to have fast convergence rate and to circumvent the mismatch problem, the robust LCCM-IQRD algorithm is devised and applied to the MC-CDMA system in Rayleigh fading channel. The proposed robust LCCM-IQRD algorithm has shown to be more effective in terms of MAI cancellation and the mismatch due to imperfect channel estimator. The performance, in terms of BER, of the proposed algorithm is superior to that of the conventional PLIC based algorithms, the blind adaptation algorithm, and the conventional LCCM gradient algorithm.

Wavelet-Based Multiuser MC-CDMA Receiver with Linearly Constrained Constant Modulus Inverse QRD-RLS Algorithm

Liu, Hsiao-Chen 07 July 2002 (has links)
In this thesis, the problem of multiple access interference (MAI) suppression for the multi-carrier (MC) code division multiple access (CDMA) system, based on the wavelet-based (WB) multi-carrier modulation, associated with the combining process is investigated for Rayleigh fading channel. The main concern of this thesis is to derive a new scheme, based on the linearly constrained constant modulus (LCCM) criterion with the robust inverse QR decomposition (IQRD) recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm to improve the performance of the conventional MC-CDMA system with combining process. To verify the merits of the new algorithm, the effect due to imperfect channel parameters estimation and frequency offset are investigated. We show that the proposed robust LCCM IQRD-RLS algorithm outperforms the conventional LCCM-gradient algorithm [6], in terms of output SINR, improvement percentage index (IPI), and bit error rate (BER) for MAI suppression under channel mismatch environment. Also, the performance of the WB MC-CDMA system is superior to the one with conventional MC-CDMA system. It is more robust to the channel mismatch and frequency offset. Moreover, the WB MC-CDMA system with robust LCCM IQRD-RLS algorithm does have better performance over other conventional approaches, such as the LCCM-gradient algorithm, maximum ratio combining (MRC), blind adaptation algorithm and partitioned linear interference canceller (PLIC) approach with LMS algorithm, in terms of the capability of MAI suppression and bit error rate (BER).

Adaptive Rake Multiuser Receiver with Linearly Constrained Sliding Window RLS Algorithm for DS-CDMA Systems

Lee, Hsin-Pei 04 July 2003 (has links)
The technique of direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) cellular system has been the focus of increased attention. In this thesis, we will consider the environment of DS-CDMA systems, where the asynchronous narrow band interference due to other systems is joined suddenly to the CDMA system. The suddenly joined narrow band interference will make the system crush down. The main concern of this thesis is to deal with suddenly joined narrow band interference cancellation. An adaptive filtering algorithm based on sliding window criterion and variable forgetting factor is known to be very attractive for violent changing environment. In this thesis, a new sliding window linearly constrained recursive least squares (SW LC-RLS) algorithm and variable forgetting factor linearly constrained recursive least squares (VFF LC-RLS) algorithm on the modified minimum mean squared error (MMSE) structure [9] is devised for RAKE receiver in direct sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system over multipath fading channels. Where the channel estimation scheme is accomplished at the output of adaptive filter. The proposed SW LC-RLS algorithm and VFF LC-RLS has the advantage of having faster convergence property and tracking ability, and can be applied to the environment, where the narrow band interference is suddenly joined to the system, to achieve desired performance. Via computer simulation, we show that the performance, in terms of mean square errors (MSE) and signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), is superior to the conventional LC-RLS and orthogonal decomposition-based LMS algorithms based on the MMSE structure [9].
