The quality of knowledge management practices and success factors in Malawian non-governmental organisationsMakota, Ennie 17 January 2017 (has links)
This study aims to identify the quality of knowledge management practices and
success factors of non-governmental organisations in Malawi, and their influence on
the knowledge management process.
A questionnaire-based survey is used to establish the knowledge management
practices being implemented and the extent to which they are being followed through
on. A statistical-based analysis enabled the researcher to determine the influence of
these practices on knowledge management processes.
Results suggest an unbalanced pursuit of knowledge management practices in
Malawian non-governmental organisations, which are oriented towards the knowledge
generation process but fall short in knowledge application activities.
This study contributes to strategy formulation and decision making in respect of
adopting and investing in knowledge management initiatives in the non-profit sector. More importantly, it joins the debate on identification of appropriate practices which
effectively address organisational needs.
Data is limited to non-governmental organisations in Malawi; therefore, findings may
be tied to a specific geographical location / School of Computing / M.Sc. (Computing)

Implementácia a dodržiavanie medzinárodných noriem v oblasti obchodovania s ľuďmi / Implementation and compliance with international standards on human traffickingTóthová, Tímea January 2011 (has links)
At present, human trafficking is a very lucrative business. It is the third largest illegal market after the trade in arms and drugs, even some authors suggest that in the near future it could get in the first place "in the ranking." For what reason is the trafficking in human beeings so profitable and how states are trying to tackle this phenomenon? What does actually human trafficking involve and what are its impact on the current global world? Although there is a wide range of initiatives and programs, a deeper analysis of the actual situation in the States shows that neither the process of implementation of international standards nor the law enforcement is going smoothly. The aim of my work is to illuminate the phenomenon of human trafficking in regions of Africa and Europe with regard to the operation of international and non-governmental organizations. Firstly to point out that there are some shortcomings in the implementation and compliance with laws on trafficking in persons by States, and secondly that human trafficking is not only the problem of developing world, but it is a growing global problem involving currently also the developed states. The fight against trafficking in human beings requires global action and cooperation of various actors of international relations. It would be more desirable to have a clooser cooperation of international organizations and States particularly in the field of implementation and law compliance.

Faith-based enterprises as a function of social entrepreneurship amongst immigrants living in YeovilleTshandu, Palesa Vuyolwethu January 2017 (has links)
A research report submitted to the faculty of Commerce, Law and Management University of the Witwatersrand in partial fufilment of the requirements for the Degree Masters in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation
Johannesburg, 2017 / This research report seeks to explore the organised behaviour of faith-based enterprises as a sub-function of social entrepreneurship. By assessing the moral intricacies which form the building blocks of social enterprises, the research report will use literature based on social entrepreneurship to draw parallels between social enterprises and faith-based ventures to suggest that the core of faith-based ventures (FBVs) is to make a social impact not just through disseminating faith, but acting as social agents. Therefore, this research will attempt to explore the extent of faith-based enterprises as a function of social entrepreneurship, identifying the opportunities and capabilities which are seen to be generated by faith, but that have a social impact that goes beyond the faith-based organisation. Using the qualitative research approach, data was collected from six faith-based entrepreneurs in Yeoville, through face-to-face semi-structured interviews, which were conducted over a period of three months to understand the role of the faith-based venture and its social impact. By conducting a qualitative inquiry to facilitate the meaning-making process, face-to-face interviews were conducted to create a naturalistic understanding of the study, particularly assessing their role and their function in society. Biases, feelings and thoughts were recorded in order to understand the participants’ motives, purposes and the causes that underlie these actions. The findings of the study suggest that the role of FBVs acting as social agents are dependent on the reach of their audience, including the extent of their scalability which they have developed which would provide insights into the degree that the faith-based venture can have social impact. This research will conclude having suggested that the “new-age” faith-based ventures have transitioned from only providing the basic faith, to now mimicking a social enterprise, therefore implying that FBVs are another dimension of social entrepreneurship. / MT2017

Styrmodeller, etiska utmaningar och migrationspolitiska dilemman : En kritisk fallstudie om den syriska flyktingsituationen i Libanon, etiska begränsningar och internationell inblandning / Governance models, ethical challenges and dilemmas regarding migration policy : A critical case study regarding the Syrian refugee situation in Lebanon, ethical limitations and international involvementAkouri, Elie January 2019 (has links)
This paper is characterized as a critical case study aimed to scrutinize the continuous situation regarding Syrian refugees in Lebanon from an ethical theoretical approach. Mainly, two specific theoretical models regarding ethics in migration and a theoretical standpoint regarding ethics in migration are presented as the theoretical and scientific framework. Arash Abizadeh’s two models, known as the state sovereignty model and the liberal model are implemented in order to understand and to pinpoint the course of the Lebanese situation. Additional, Joseph Carens’ theory concerning ethics in migration is implemented parallel with the two models, to enhance the analytical tools and to introduce a normative perspective. Regarding the empirical result, three distinct perspectives are utilized in order to cope with the situation on a fair and nuanced ground. The Syrian refugees themselves, international involvement and the Lebanese government are presented as the empirical pathways throughout this paper. Concluding results of this paper tends to pinpoint uncertainty and unawareness to be the key factors in explaining the actions of the Lebanese government. Based on the theoretical framework presented in this paper, there is an established tendency to conclude that Syrian refugees has not been treated accordingly to ethical concepts. Because of the distinct ideal differences between the two theoretical models, the results tend to be more evident. The Lebanese government has initially tended to affiliate itself with the liberal model. However, as time has progressed the government has acted accordingly to the state sovereignty model, with not acknowledging ethical limitations in its decision making. While remaining in the grasp of the state sovereignty model, the government and the civil society has begun lighting sparks in actions that have been taken. These actions tend to recognize ethical limitations, thus moving Lebanon towards the liberal model, but far from being completely implemented. In summary, Lebanon’s situation has brought it to a tendency to conduct temporary policies in an increasingly permanent situation.

非政府組織與女性議題:以尼泊爾販運婦女為例 / Non-governmental organizations and women issue- the case study of trafficking in women in Nepal周欣瑋 Unknown Date (has links)
(South Asian Alliance for Regional Cooperation Convention against Trafficking)。
International and national trafficking in women and children in southern Asia, especially in Nepal has been discussed explicitly during last ten years.
Poverty, literacy, rate of unemployment, and discrimination against women and children are all possible factors. The anti trafficking programmes of some countries are conducted under the governments and NGO sectors, and reach to some extent of progress. The government and NGO leading action help forward rectifying many related concepts of this issue. This is also helpful to focus on the shift from women and the anti trafficking action of their mobility and sex work to mature viewpoint of trafficking including trafficking in men and children. Sustaining advocacy leads to a regional convention against exploiting and trafficking in women and children, the most well-known one is “South Asian Alliance for Regional Cooperation Convention against Trafficking”, which gradually made almost all southern Asia countries approve of the importance of the issue. Nepal and Bangladesh even develop a programme against “exploitative trafficking in women and children.”
Trafficking in human is not a new phenomenon in Nepal, but it was addressed and discussed after 1990s. Women groups addressed the problem of trafficking women in sex industry and then the issue were supported by human rights organizations. The states implement sets of programmes against anti trafficking, in the last six years, governments did not bring any important change to the forms of trafficking women and did not offer supports to trafficked ones, so the NGOs became the primary actor. This article will discuss the problem and present status of trafficking in women in Nepal, and how NGOs as a non-state actor do with the trafficking issue.

Corporate Social Resopnsibility : ur ett sydafrikanskt nationellt perspektivSegerdahl, Ida, Schönberg, Åsa January 2011 (has links)
With the increasing globalization of the world, it might be good for companies to review their work with issues that go over concepts such as the Global Compact, CSR and also have knowledge of how cooperation can occur at different levels within the company with the help of NGOs. This study has chosen to interpret the concept of CSR from the UN Global Com-pact, the ten principles. The purpose of this study was to find out how companies in South Africa acts and works on issues related to CSR. To be able to fulfill this purpose following question was asked: how do companies located in South Africa work with the matters covered by the concept of CSR? Which problems can be identified as barriers to meet the require-ments of CSR in South African companies? To fulfill the purpose a quantitative survey with qualitative elements was conducted, data were collected through a semi structured question-naire. Five companies represent data collected in this study. The questionnaire that was distri-buted to the companies is of descriptive nature, which means that the questions are designed to provide a descriptive picture of the company.
