Virando o jogo : uma analise de videogames atraves de um olhar discursivo critico / Turning the game : an videogame analysis through a critical discursive view

Magnani, Luiz Henrique 28 February 2008 (has links)
Orientador: Denise Bertoli Braga / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-11T08:36:16Z (GMT). The study reflects upon the potential of digital gaming for raising critical awareness. A general review of the literature on different theoretical perspectives of gaming is presented and articulated with discursive frames of analysis. As it is concerned with critical thinking about social reality, the study examines five different proposals of serious games from the perspective of the author himself, seen as an expert, in his interaction with the games. The findings reveal possibilities and limits of the strategies used in each those proposals for the development of critical counciousness. A model is proposed that allows for the reader to understand how the social voices implicated in the game are reproduced both in the process of creation of the game and in the game-gamer interaction. Two modes of subversive appropriation of digital games currently available in the market are shown that may instigate the gamer to look critically at his/her own beliefs and value systems. In addition to that, the study presents an empiric section that focuses on possible ways to producing videogames that are conducive to critical thinking / Mestrado / Linguagem e Tecnologia / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada

Samuel Rawer: profeta da alteridade. / Samuel Rawet: prophet of alterity.

Saul Kirschbaum 16 October 2000 (has links)
This research has had as its central purpose to contribute for the rescue of Samuel Rawet’s work, mainly through the analysis of his first book, Contos do Imigrante (Immigrant stories), published in 1956. It was sought to establish the locus of his literary production, under two concomitant and converging optics: that of the Jewish literature produced in Brazil, and that of the Brazilian literature of the genre privileged by Rawet, the short story. Searching to attain these goals, the research has been divided into five parts: Chapter one, Samuel Rawet’s Critical Fortune, surveys the reception of Rawet’s works by the specialized critique alongside his career; newspapers, literature magazines, and books on literature critique were searched. It has been observed that, in general terms, specialists have always given Rawet’s fictional works a favorable welcome, notwithstanding some few dissonant opinions. However, what astonishes us, for its scarcity, is the number of texts dealing with Rawet’s work, the growing indifference of the critics. Chapter two, An Autobiography, tries to draw a panorama of Rawet’s life, with absolute emphasis on the aspects related to his literary production. For this purpose, passages extracted from interviews given by Rawet in different points of his career have been compiled. These testimonies were contextualized by the present author by means of analyses of Jewish life conditions in Eastern Europe and of the particularities of the great exodus from Russia and Poland, mainly to the United States but also to Brazil and other American countries. Chapter three, Narrativity, Language, Exclusion, analyses the first five stories in the anthology Contos do Imigrante, that is, those in which Rawet focuses on Jewish protagonists, the relationships with their respective families and with the Jewish community, groups that are traditionally held as pillars of the Jewish life. Chapter four, Social Responsibility, tries to observe, through the reading of the five "non-Judaic" stories of the anthology Contos do Imigrante, the appearance of a social conscience in the young Samuel Rawet as he feels more and more like a Brazilian thinker. At last, chapter five, General Bibliography, presents a list of Samuel Rawet’s books and all that has been written about him, of whose existence the present author has had acquaintance, besides other works of general character that the author has made use of. Despite being aware that this relation is not complete, I believe that it may serve as a starting point for other researchers, and I hope to have advanced a step, if modest, towards the systematization of a bibliography by and on Samuel Rawet, whose importance is correlate to the importance of Samuel Rawet himself for Brazilian literature and for the Jewish-Brazilian cultural production.

Orientador: Ulisses Ferreira de Araujo / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-12T13:16:06Z (GMT). / Abstract: The present research purports to investigate the role of culture on our thought organization, through the analysis of judgements and explanations expressed by the subjects of our research, concerning contents of cultural nature, wich includes questions of gender and violence. We intend to analyse how those questions are so present in our culture, being legitimized and naturalized, exerting strong influence through our thought organization. The Organizing Models of Thought theory not only based our theoric discussion but also guided us in the methodologic direction of data analysis, involving 240 subjects, being 120 females and 120 males. That choice purported to advance analysis through the gender perspective, by dealing with an essentially cultural construction. To make another level of comparative analysis viable, our work was also divided into 120 Academic setudents (60 women and 60 men) and 120 adults who have studied until Elementary school (60 women and 60 men) considering the scholarity factor, whereas the school is buit on a place of cultural skills. Therefore the Organizing Models of Thought gave us the opportunity to study the mental process involved in culture appropriation and elaboration of explanations about phenomena of that nature, proving how culture and education work together for the construction of a gender concept and exerts relevant influence on any psychic and cultural individual formation. / Doutorado / Psicologia Educacional / Doutor em Educação

Kartläggning av en arbetsprocess i förändring : Hur distribution över tid, individer och artefakter kan användas för analys vid införandet av Lean Thinking i verksamheten / Mapping of a changing workprocess : How distribution over time, individuals and artefacts can be used in analysis when implementing Lean Thinking in an operation

Torensjö, Emma January 2014 (has links)

Lean management : Ett sätt att minimera matsvinn i livsmedelsbutiker / Lean management : A way to minimize food waste in grocery stores

Donatella, Dominic, Hansson, Jonatan, Olsson, Fredrik January 2017 (has links)
Food waste is today a subject of large interest and a lot of work is currently being done to handle this issue. The aim of this study is therefore to give a contribution to the problem solving in this area from a lean management perspective. The study is limited to “ICA nära Bredaryds” department for cured meat and provisions. By identifying the underlying issues of food waste in connection with investigating how lean principles can handle these, the study aims to form long-term and strategic solutions on how to minimize waste in food shops. The two main causes of food waste that have been identified in the study are the variation in customer demand and the variation in how the staff perform their work. In order for the food shop to handle these two problems, two solutions have been suggested. In order to handle the variation in demand, the mindset of lean thinking should be implemented. By working with the lean thinking cycle and continuously eliminating waste and at the same time develop a pull system the variation in demand can be handled, which in turn will reduce the food waste. To handle the variation in workflow, standardized work methods should be implemented. Directing the staff to work the same way will reduce the variation in how the work is performed, which in turn will generate reduced food waste.

Guidelines for the facilitation of critical thinking in 3rd year radiography students

Pieterse, Tracey 18 April 2013 (has links)
M.Tech. (Radiography) / The ability to think critically is a vital skill for health care professionals in an era of rapidly advancing technology. Critical thinking skills improve problem solving ability, quality of clinical service and efficiency in delivering a clinical service. Although no specific curriculum exists within the Department of Radiography for teaching critical thinking, assessments given to students progress from the lower levels of learning, which include knowledge and understanding of information in first year, to the higher levels of learning, which include analysis, synthesis and evaluation in third year. The status of the students’ ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills needed to be explored for the Department of Radiography to develop a more explicit curriculum to facilitate these skills. The research question that arose was: To what extent could third-year radiography students demonstrate critical thinking skills and how can the design and delivery of the new professional bachelor’s degree be adapted to make provision for and best facilitate the teaching of these skills? The aim of this descriptive exploratory study was to determine the ability of third-year radiography students at a comprehensive university in Gauteng, South Africa, to think critically. The study employs a descriptive exploratory design. The participants responses to vignettes (in the form of clinical scenarios) were analyzed using a Likert scale and action verbs developed for evaluating evidence of critical thinking skills, providing quantitative data. Field notes were made whilst analyzing responses to each question, providing qualitative data.

Community and Youth Empowerment Through Artmaking: Teaching Teens Social Justice through Visual Journaling

Broduer, Christine M., Broduer, Christine M. January 2017 (has links)
In this case study I document a group of youth, ages thirteen to fifteen, as they investigate and explore social justice issues and personal beliefs in order to create a community service learning project. Ideas are presented through the introduction of activist art and also by the viewing of recordings of a variety of perspectives on social justice issues and community involvement from a diverse population. The vehicle of inquiry in the study is the production of a visual journal in which thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and ideas will be examined and considered through art making. A review of literature related to the benefits of artmaking and individual storytelling, teaching social justice issues, and the influence of visual culture provide insight and foundation for the study. Qualitative research methods are incorporated to determine the effectiveness of connecting the making of art to the instigation of community involvement. The data collected and interpreted to inform the conclusions are interviews, discussions, and visual and written responses by the participants in the study. The conclusions may be used in either a classroom or community art forum and contribute to the foundational body of knowledge that asserts that art making and critical thinking are necessary components of contributing to today's society.

Community of enquiry practices in the mathematics and literacy classrooms: a study of two Western Cape primary schools

Petersen, Karen Elizabeth Debora January 2013 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / The research explores the effects of Community of Enquiry practices on the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Literacy in two local primary schools. After the 1994 elections, both the government and education system changed in South Africa. With the introduction of Outcomes Based Education (OBE), critical outcomes that emphasized thinking and collaboration became a vital part of the curriculum. Soon after, the Education system adopted the National Curriculum Statement (NCS) and thereafter the Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS), which maintained these outcomes. The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) was introduced to the Foundation Phase in 2012 and to the Intermediate Phase in 2013 with the Critical Outcomes, (which emphasizes thinking) now stated as the aims of CAPS. However, no guidelines are provided regarding classroom practice. The approach to teaching these aims is not made clear. Lipman’s Philosophy for Children (P4C) is one way of working towards these aims, and promoting thinking and is consistent with many of Vygotsky’s ideas. He initiated ideas about cognitive development in which he refers to the importance of dialogue in which one is able to talk and communicate with others. Vygotsky also emphasised scaffolding where the teacher provides the learner with clues and suggestions in order to develop better problem- solving techniques and thinking habits. His concept of the zone of proximal development (ZPD) refers to the individual’s ability to accomplish more or to perform a challenging task with the proper assistance. The development of language is considered important within his theory as Vygotsky believes that individuals are born only with lower mental processes and develop their thinking ability (higher mental processes) by acquiring the thinking tools developed in a particular culture, the most important of which is language. The research followed a qualitative research methodology. The study explored the perceptions of both educators and learners after an intervention based on Philosophy for Children. Qualitative data involved two group interviews with teachers, one with the Cognitive Education Co-ordinator and interviews with four focus groups of selected Grade 5 and 7 learners (12 per group) whose teachers implemented Lipman’s Community of Enquiry pedagogy in the classroom the previous year. Quantitative data included a learner self-rating scale. All the educators of the two schools, who were involved in the classroom Community of Enquiry training, were invited to participate in the study, as were selected learners from the two Grade 5 and 7 classes at each school. I made use of thematic analysis of the interview data from both learners and teachers. Themes within the interviews were identified. Themes pertaining to teacher perception of self-change, teacher perception of learner change, and learner perceptions of self change were identified. During thematic analysis, the three research sub-questions were underlined. These were: (1) What are the teachers’ perceptions of self-change? (2) What are the teachers’ perceptions of learner change? (3) What are the learners’ perceptions of self-change? The conclusion of the study was that P4C has the potential to affect the teachers professionally and to influence the learners positively in Mathematics and Literacy classrooms. Ongoing support in cognitive education is vital in order to reach the aims required for the new CAPS curriculum.
