Agner, Luciane Telinski Wiedermann 14 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the platform-independence matter in the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) context. MDA is an approach to software development based on the design and transformation of models. In the MDA approach models are the core artifacts throughout the entire software development lifecycle, and thus a key role is played by model transformations. Nevertheless, most MDA initiatives are dedicated, i.e., the platform features are implicitly employed in the transformation rules. As the aspects associated with the platform are not separated from the transformation rules, for each selected platform there must be a corresponding model transformation. On the one hand, this makes the model transformation development easier. On the other hand, model transformation becomes limited to a specific platform, once the platform features are strongly associated with the transformation rules. An open challenge consists of how to create transformation rules independently of the deployment platform features of software systems. This thesis proposes a method for creating model transformations, called PI-MT (Platform Independent - Model Transformations). The PI-MT is particularly applied to embedded software development based on Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS). In addition, it allows the adaptation of the model transformation process to different RTOS-based platforms by means of Platform Models explicitly defined. As a result, the PI-MT method provides independence between the model transformation rules and the platform features.

January 2013 (has links)
O escalonamento de conexões funciona ativamente distribuindo os clientes dentre os servidores para melhorar o desempenho da ferramenta / Abstract: Due to a gradual decrease in the cost of purchasing new computers, there is more and more computing devices entering the market. The large quantity of new devices creates heterogeneity among them and this complicates the administration of computing environments, because is necessary to keep the systems running in compatibility with quite different devices simultaneously. The WSE-OS system proposes a solution for centralizing data and resources that addresses this problem effectively. Using wireless networking technology, the WSE-OS tool uses a Thin Client structure that allows its clients to execute instantiations of virtualized operating systems stored on the server. This paper presents a proposal that changes WSE-OS's structure including the ability to run with multiple servers, having as its goal increase scalability, availability and reliability through server's data replication and staggering of connections. Data replication consists in detecting changes on data from a given server and transmit it to the others prioritizing the consistency among replicas. The staggering of connections works on actively distributing the clients among servers to improve system's performance / Mestre

O algoritmo de layout implementado é uma variação do algoritmo de Sugiyama, modificado para melhorar a legibilidade do dia:grama ao garantir a consistência na apresentação de suas estruturas e gerar mapas semelhantes aos desenhados livremente / Abstract: Reactive systems have great importance in many areas of Engineering and Computing, but the quality and maturity of the development support methodologies and tools Iack when compared to those directed to transformational systems. One of the outstanding methodologies is Model Oriented Architecture, where the reactive systems are described by models that can be directly translated to executable form. The best succeeded language for modeling of reactive systems is Statechart, which is the origin of variations like state machine diagrams from the UML standard and the Xchart Language. This language is an extension of Statechart that introduces eIements for external process control, activation history and hierarchization of events. To overcome the limitations of the already existing tool for the edition of Xchart diagramas known as Smart, the Sins editor was developed (Sins Is Not Smart), implemented as a plugin for the Eclipse IDE. With the Sins editor it is possible to edit diagramas through direct manipulation, layout the specification automatically and generate the corresponding source code in the textual Language TEXchart. The implemented layout algorithm is a variation of the Sugiyama algorithm, modified for better legibility of the diagram by assuring consistency in the presentation of its structures and generation of layouts similar to those freely drawn / Mestrado / Sistemas de Computação / Mestre em Ciência da Computação

A comparative study of the Linux and windows device driver architecture with a focus on IEEE1394 (high speed serial bus) drivers

Tsegaye, Melekam Asrat January 2004 (has links)
New hardware devices are continually being released to the public by hardware manufactures around the world. For these new devices to be usable under a PC operating system, device drivers that extend the functionality of the target operating system have to be constructed. This work examines and compares the device driver architectures currently in use by two of the most widely used operating systems, Microsoft’s Windows and Linux. The IEEE1394 (high speed serial bus) device driver stacks on each operating system are examined and compared as an example of a major device driver stack implementation, including driver requirements for the upcoming IEEE1394.1 bridging standard.

FeatureIT : a platform for collaborative software development

Siller, Gavin George 02 1900 (has links)
The development of enterprise software is a complex activity that requires a diverse set of stakeholders to communicate and coordinate in order to achieve a successful outcome. In this dissertation I introduce a high-level physical architecture for a platform titled FeatureIT that has the goal of supporting the collaboration between stakeholders throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). FeatureIT is the result of unifying the theoretical foundations of the multi-disciplinary field of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) with the paradigm and associated technologies of Web 2.0. The architecture was borne out a study of literature in the fields of CSCW, Web 2.0 and software engineering, which facilitated the identification of functional and non-functional requirements necessary for the platform. The design science research methodology was employed to construct this architecture iteratively to satisfy the requirements while validating its efficacy against a comprehensive set of scenarios that typically occur in the SDLC. / Computing / M. Content Aware Request Distribution for High Performance Web Service: A Performance Study

Jones, Robert M. 01 July 2002 (has links)
The World Wide Web is becoming a basic infrastructure for a variety of services, and the increases in audience size and client network bandwidth create service demands that are outpacing server capacity. Web clusters are one solution to this need for highperformance, highly available web server systems. We are interested in load distribution techniques, specifically Layer-7 algorithms that are content-aware. Layer- 7 algorithms allow distribution control based on the specific content requested, which is advantageous for a system that offers highly heterogenous services. We examine the performance of the Client Aware Policy (CAP) on a Linux/Apache web cluster consisting of a single web switch that directs requests to a pool of dual-processor SMP nodes. We show that the performance advantage of CAP over simple algorithms such as random and round-robin is as high as 29% on our testbed consisting of a mixture of static and dynamic content. Under heavily loaded conditions however, the performance decreases to the level of random distribution. In studying SMP vs. uniprocessor performance using the same number of processors with CAP distribution, we find that SMP dual-processor nodes under moderate workload levels provide equivalent throughput as the same number of CPU’s in a uniprocessor cluster. As workload increases to a heavily loaded state however, the SMP cluster shows reduced throughput compared to a cluster using uniprocessor nodes. We show that the web cluster’s maximum throughput increases linearly with the addition of more nodes to the server pool. We conclude that CAP is advantageous over random or round-robin distribution under certain conditions for highly dynamic workloads, and suggest some future enhancements that may improve its performance.
