Statistical Analysis and Modeling of Cyber Security and Health Sciences

Pokhrel, Nawa Raj 29 May 2018 (has links)
Being in the era of information technology, importance and applicability of analytical statistical model an interdisciplinary setting in the modern statistics have increased significantly. Conceptually understanding the vulnerabilities in statistical perspective helps to develop the set of modern statistical models and bridges the gap between cybersecurity and abstract statistical /mathematical knowledge. In this dissertation, our primary goal is to develop series of the strong statistical model in software vulnerability in conjunction with Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) framework. In nutshell, the overall research lies at the intersection of statistical modeling, cybersecurity, and data mining. Furthermore, we generalize the model of software vulnerability to health science particularly in the stomach cancer data. In the context of cybersecurity, we have applied the well-known Markovian process in the combination of CVSS framework to determine the overall network security risk. The developed model can be used to identify critical nodes in the host access graph where attackers may be most likely to focus. Based on that information, a network administrator can make appropriate, prioritized decisions for system patching. Further, a flexible risk ranking technique is described, where the decisions made by an attacker can be adjusted using a bias factor. The model can be generalized for use with complicated network environments. We have further proposed a vulnerability analytic prediction model based on linear and non-linear approaches via time series analysis. Using currently available data from National Vulnerability Database (NVD) this study develops and present sets of predictive model by utilizing Auto Regressive Moving Average (ARIMA), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) settings. The best model which provides the minimum error rate is selected for prediction of future vulnerabilities. In addition, we purpose a new philosophy of software vulnerability life cycle. It says that vulnerability saturation is a local phenomenon, and it possesses an increasing cyclic behavior within the software vulnerability life cycle. Based on the new philosophy of software vulnerability life cycle, we purpose new effective differential equation model to predict future software vulnerabilities by utilizing the vulnerability dataset of three major OS: Windows 7, Linux Kernel, and Mac OS X. The proposed analytical model is compared with existing models in terms of fitting and prediction accuracy. Finally, the predictive model not only applicable to predict future vulnerability but it can be used in the various domain such as engineering, finance, business, health science, and among others. For instance, we extended the idea on health science; to predict the malignant tumor size of stomach cancer as a function of age based on the given historical data from Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER).

Replacing OSE with Real Time capable Linux

Boman, Simon, Rutgersson, Olof January 2009 (has links)
<p>For many years OSE has been a common used operating system, with real time extensions enhancements, in embed-ded systems. But in the last decades, Linux has grown and became a competitor to common operating systems and, in recent years, even as an operating system with real time extensions. With this in mind, ÅF was interested in replacing the quite expensive OSE with some distribution of the open source based Linux on a PowerPC MPC8360. Therefore, our purpose with thesis is to implement Linux on the named platform and make some tests to see if it is possible to replace OSE with Linux. Using Linux has several advantages, for example it is free of charge to use and over the years the popularity of Linux within the developer community has resulted in numerous tools and utilities available for free.</p><p>As a result, this study shows that Linux with real time extensions on the MPC8360 PowerPC platform is a viable alternative to OSE regarding cost efficiency, flexibility, adaptability and competence available on the market.</p><p>Further studies can be done towards benchmarking for I/O systems and implementing support for more hardware on the MPC8360 AF platform.</p>

A Linux-based, Web-oriented operating system designed to boot quickly

Magnusson, Ulf January 2011 (has links)
This thesis describes the design and implementation of a Linux-based, Web-oriented operating system called Awesom-O, designed with a focus on short boot time and small disk footprint. Among other techniques for lowering boot time, a semi-automatic method for generating a Linux kernel of minimal size for a given platform is developed, making use of an interpreter for the Linux kernel’s configuration language, Kconfig. The boot process of the finished system is analyzed to identify limiting factors in lowering its boot time further, and techniques for overcoming these are suggested. Excluding the initial BIOS stage of the boot process, the boot time of the finished system—up until it is idling inside the web browser interface waiting for user input—is 3.8 seconds (2.1 seconds to a shell prompt, 1.7 seconds in the kernel) on an Acer Travelmate 8200 laptop with an Intel Core Duo CPU at 2.0 GHz and a Momentus 5400.2 SATA (ST9120821AS) hard drive; 2.4 seconds (1.6 seconds to a shell prompt, 1.1 seconds in the kernel) on a Celsius M460 workstation with an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU at 2.5 GHz and a Barracuda 7200.11 SATA hard drive (ST3500320AS); 4.6 and 4.0 seconds respectively for the same systems when booting from a USB 2.0 device (a ChipsBank CBM2080 USB 2.0 stick); and 12.6 seconds on the BeagleBoard (8 seconds in the bootloader—an obvious area for future improvement). The Web functionality in Awesom-O is implemented atop the Opera Linux Devices SDK: a software framework for integrating web browser functionality in small Linux-based systems.

Porting of £gC/OS-II Embedded Operating System on a Reconfigurable Platform

Lin, Yu-en 16 February 2008 (has links)
£gC/OS-II is a portable, scalable and preemptive real time kernel. In this paper, we describe the work of porting £gC/OS-II to the Xilinx ML310 platform, which is equipped with a Virtex-II Pro FPGA. Moreover, we also present the accomplishment of an OS4RS (Operating System for Reconfigurable System) prototype by integrating £gC/OS-II with the partial reconfiguration capability of the Virtex-II Pro FPGA. For the porting of the £gC/OS-II, we mainly port the code related to context switch, interrupt, and timer. Moreover, for the OS4RS prototype, we partition the FPGA into four regions and allow different circuits (i.e. hardware tasks) to be dynamically reconfigured (i.e. downloaded) into the regions under the control of £gC/OS-II. Finally, we propose an algorithm to predict and pre-configure the hardware tasks so as to reduce the waiting time of task reconfiguration. According to the simulation results, the proposed algorithm can reduce the waiting time effectively.

DSP operating systems

Kardonik, Michael 19 December 2013 (has links)
This report presents operating systems that are designed to run on some of today’s the most popular DSP platforms. We look at functionally that those OSes provide to users, how they compare to general market embedded OS (like VxWorks, Linux), how they fit newest DSP platforms that features multicore architecture and highly integrated SoC. We also want to understand how those OSes can be utilized to implement selected real-time scheduling approaches. / text

Microsoft operacinių sistemų sąsajų lyginamoji analizė / Comparative analysis of interface of Windows systems

Mudurytė, Edita 08 July 2010 (has links)
The most popular "Windows" operative systems were intalled to achieve the targeted aims. During analysis of single systems versions it was acquainted with their history. After comparison of operating systems that were created in different time, evaluated the interface elements based on the recommendations of common user accer, accessibility, natural user interface and the augmented reality. During the analysis, it was found that replacing the operating system versions, has remained with same controls, there were made changes, without affecting the user interface with the operating system.
