  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

A microscopic theory of the alpha-nucleus optical potential

Bonaccorso, Angela January 1980 (has links)
In order to test the validity of perturbation theory the ground state to ground state transition amplitude is also calculated by solving a set of coupled channel equations. Time integrals of the imaginary part of the optical potential are compared with the results obtained by perturbation theory. Information about the real part of the potential is also extracted. Finally a comparison is made with other theories of the optical potential which use perturbation theory. Some final remairfcs and suggestions for future developments conclude this work.

Optical model analyses of the elastic scattering of p3sHe particles by p1sp2sC at 18.0 MeV

Campbell, Russell L. January 1970 (has links)
This thesis describes optical-model analyses of the elastic scattering of 3He particles by 12C at 18,0 MeV. The analyses were performed on a H-1800 computer at the Systems and Research Division of Honeywell, Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota, and on an IBM-360/40 at the Ball State University Computing Center. The angular distributions of the elastic scattering of 18.0-MeV 3He particles from 12C were analyzed in terms of a four-parameter optical potential having either a surface-absorption or volume-absorption term. Four sets of parameters of the surface-absorption type were found which best described the experimental data, The quality of fits showed little improvement when six-parameter potentials were used or when a spin-orbit term was included. Although only forward angles were included in the searches, good agreement resulted between the backward-angle experimental data and optical-model predictions. One of the four sets of parameters was chosen which provided the best overall descriptions to the elastic scattering of 3He from 12C at 13.9, 16,0, and 17.0 MeV. These results were quite inferior to the results obtained for the 18.0-MeV data.
