Le Livre e o Sintext: a simulação do sonho de Mallarmé através da poética digital de Pedro Barbosa / Le livre and the Sintext: the simulation of Mallarmé s dream through the digital poetics of Pedro Barbosa

Fajardo, Luís Cláudio Costa 23 April 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:23:48Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Luis Claudio Costa Fajardo.pdf: 2133826 bytes, checksum: 2ce40e62f84603c57f9022d492da0d44 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-04-23 / The project of dissertation Le Livre and the Sintext : The simulation of Mallarmé s dream through the digital poetics of Pedro Barbosa intends to evidence the connection between these two works, apart in time line but very intimate considering their poetic ideals: the unfinished Mallarmé s work Le Livre , ideated on XIX century and the digital text synthesizer, Sintext , anthological cyberliterary project, conceived by Pedro Barbosa and Manuel Torres in 2001. Mallarmé s masterpiece, the poem Dice Thrown Never Will Annul Chance , is probably the closest poetic experience of the Livre . This poem is, first of all, a poetic process, which the verses, distant one from the other and printed in various typefaces lead to a not lineal and limitless reading that offers the reader many entries and exits. The research approaches, at first, the development of cyber literature from hypertext s paradigm by going trough the multimedia digital poetics, the ergodic literature until focusing literary occurrences generated from a computer: the digital poetry, the generative literature and the hyperfiction, according to Pedro Barbosa´s proposal. In this trajectory, authors like Jay David Bolter, George Landow, Jacques Derrida. Levi Manovich, Lúcia Santaella, Giselle Bielguelman, Janet Murray, Aspen Arseth,Pedro Barbosa, Chris Funkenhouser, Rui Torres e Jorge Luiz Antônio are related. The dissertation proceeds with a presentation of the French poet s poetic work, and it proposes a comparison between the Sintext and the Livre , by coming into view the coincident points between these works, with the support of the work of the authors Maurice Blanchot , Jacques Scherer, Arlindo Machado, Octavio Paz, beside the others before mentioned. The climax of the project is a poetic experimentation in a digital medium wich Mallarmé s poem Dice Thrown Never Will Annul Chance is submitted to a text engine similar to the Sintext . The process is put into practice by a combinatorial operation with the verses of poem; it will enable innumerable possibilities of re-combining the verses, amplifying the meaning of the work and playing, by the digital poetics, the multiple and infinite book once conceived by Mallarmé / O projeto de dissertação, Le Livre e o Sintext : A simulação do sonho de Mallarmé através da Poética Digital de Pedro Barbosa, pretende evidenciar a relação existente entre duas obras distantes no tempo, porém íntimas em seus ideais poéticos: a obra inacabada de Mallarmé conhecida como Le Livre , idealizada no século XIX e o sintetizador de textos em meio digital, o Sintext , projeto antológico da ciberliteratura, concebida por Pedro Barbosa e José Manuel Torres em 2001.

The Community of S?o Pedro de Cima (CSPC), located in the town of Divino, in the state of Minas Gerais, hosted in 2007 a group of students of the discipline Agrarian Geography, of the course of Geography, of the Geosciences Department of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), in order to conduct an educational activity proposed as a field work of quilombola community. This activity provided developments that led to the creation and implementation of university extension projects for the community which were developed for 9 years. The empirical basis of this research mentions the involvement of the researcher as a participant in the development of the extension projects that have driven these interactions. Data collected in the field work through the observation of the CSPC and the interviews with people of the UFJF involved in this trajectory were also used. Important aspects of this trajectory were treated in an attempt to demonstrate the influence of this interaction for UFJF. We were guided by the notion of collective subjectivities, created by Domingues, which includes the conscious and unconscious dimensions of these identification processes as well as its relational component. The present work focused the constitution processes of collectivities lived by students and teachers of the institution. In these collectivities, we observe vectors of insertion of discussions and practices on both the themes of quilombo and agroecology. We try to understand the impact of these issues and of the interaction in the university education process. The discussion is conducted in a way that tries to understand the importance of these practices, highlighting the role of the whole university?s extension project and elucidating the influences brought to the university environment.

Wulff, Monica January 2013 (has links)
Aim The aim of the present study was to try to find out whether shock wave therapy has any effect on pain and grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis. Objectives 1. Does shock wave therapy reduce pain in patients with lateral epicondylitis? 2. Does shock wave therapy improve grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis? Method A literature review was performed in the databases PubMed, Cochrane, Cinahl and PEDro. Fourteen articles were found and critically reviewed. These articles were scored according to the PEDro scale and the scores were translated into a scale of evidence by the Statens Beredning för medicinsk Utredning (SBU) and the level of evidence was determined based on the four different grades presented by the SBU. Results According to the GRADE-system there was a strong scientific evidence for a reduction of pain using shock wave therapy in patients with lateral epicondylitis. Contradictory results whether shock wave therapy was better than placebo, corticosteoroid injection or tenotomy have been reported in studies of similar scientific quality. This means that more research is needed in this field. According to the GRADE-system there was a strong scientific evidence for an improvement of grip strength using shock wave therapy. Furthermore, there was a strong scientific evidence for that shock wave is not better than any other therapy in terms of improving grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis. Conclusion Shock wave therapy reduces pain in patients with lateral epicondylitis. There is, however, no evidence for shock wave therapy to be superior to any other treatment such as placebo, corticosteoroid injection or tenotomy. Shock wave therapy improves grip strenght but is not better than placebo, corticoidsteroid injection or tenotomy in increasing grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis.

A Multiobjective Approach to Managing a Southern Arizona Watershed

Golcoechea, Ambrose, Duckstein, Lucien, Fogel, Martin M. 01 May 1976 (has links)
From the Proceedings of the 1976 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 29-May 1, 1976, Tucson, Arizona / The case study of an Upper San Pedro River watershed is developed to show how a multiple objective approach to decision-making may be used in watershed management. The effects of various land treatments and management practices on water runoff, sediment, recreation,, wildlife levels, and commercial potential of a study area are investigated while observing constraints' on available land and capital. The example involves the optimization of five objective functions subject to eighteen constraints. In an iterative manner, the decision-maker proceeds from one noninferior solution to another, comparing sets of land management activities for reaching specified goals, and evaluating trade-offs between individual objective functions. This technique, which involves the formulation of a surrogate objective function and the use of the cutting plane method to solve the general nonlinear problem, hopefully provides a compromise between oversimplified and computationally intractable approaches to multiobjective watershed management.

Ephemeral Flow and Water Quality Problems: A Case Study of the San Pedro River in Southeastern Arizona

Keith, S. J. 15 April 1978 (has links)
From the Proceedings of the 1978 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 14-15, 1978, Flagstaff, Arizona / Discontinuous water quality data for the San Pedro River in southeastern Arizona is analyzed to illustrate the nature of water quality problems of ephemeral flow. The San Pedro drains a northerly-trending basin of 4,483 square miles, of which 696 are in Mexico and 3,787 in Arizona. Several questions arise in the consideration of a rational management plan: what is the necessity for protection of ephemeral flow quality when the channel consists of a dry wash much of the year, where there is little aquatic or wildlife to protect, and where occasional flow during flood conditions is put to little use by humans; and where and how do we use the ephemeral flow it is indeed decided to utilize it. Such questions as these form the basis of this discussion in an effort to bring out the point that water quality problems of ephemeral flow in arid areas differ from those in the humid zone. It is argued that in between the extremes of prohibiting or treating all runoff or eliminating all sources of pollution, there is actually little that can be done to control all sources of pollution in this typical arid stream, despite the fact that standards, for the most part unattainable, have been set for this flow.

Drouin-Gagné, Marie-Eve 01 1900 (has links)
Understanding the assumptions underlying the relationships between individuals and the world according to their civilizational affiliation requires tools and a method to address three main questions. First, how to approach the relationship individuals and their collectivities maintain with the world and with the Other according to their own set of interpretations and meanings of these realities? Second, how to envision the diversity of human collectivities which establish such relations? Finally, how to approach the collective dimensions through limited individual discourse? Two tools enabled me to distance myself from my own subjectiveness and to attain a certain degree of reality and validity as to the stated facts and the achieved results. First, the notional network linking worldviews (Ikenga-Metuh, 1987) as a civilizational phenomenon (Mauss, 1929) accessible through the analysis of social representations (Jodelet, 1997), enables the identification of an interface which can be studied between the individual and the collective. Secondly, research operationalization makes it possible to identify the sixteenth century as a significant crossroad for the study of Western and Andean civilizations through Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa’s representations of the Spanish Self and the Inca Other. Finally, discourse analysis (Sabourin, 2009) unveils a polarizing social grammar between the Self and the Other which involves the three realms of meaning (religious, intellectual and political) observed in Sarmiento’s discourse. The author’s theological, intellectual and political positions thus revealed lead, in turn, to the collective stories and discourses which prevailed in Western and Andean civilizations at the time, and invites a further question: Is this polarization unique to Sarmiento’s social location or does it constitute a truly Western civilizational phenomenon?

Gagnon, Julie E. January 2003 (has links)
Among the diverse fabric of masculinities that prestigious authors such as Pedro Calderon de la Barca, Tirso de Molina and Agustin Moreto weave into their plots, fashion proves to be a common thread and a particularly useful tool. Thus, as I approach the idea of "Fashionable Masculinities" and investigate a few "macho" and/or not so "macho men" in Early Modern drama I hope to go beyond the traditional interpretations, stereotypes and icons often associated with men---in particular, Spanish men in Golden Age drama. This will be achieved by revisiting typical cases and compared through research and documentation of atypical representations of maleness that could be considered displacements and/or subversions of the social matrix. In effect, this study explores how the male ideal is shaped and judged both by the essence of his personality, as well as his physical appearance (i.e.: clothing, hairstyle, mannerisms, discourse and voice). As such, it becomes evident that masculinity is moulded, influenced, enhanced, exaggerated and even muted as it is subject to the whim of different fashions prevalent at a specific moment in time. Moreover, a multitude of social, cultural, racial and historical factors determine the always changing image of the so called "macho man". / Therefore, in order to explore distinct representations of masculinity I approach three different comedias by three different playwrights while comparing how the main character's masculinity fared in three very important spaces: physical, social and sexual. I focus my attention on Saber del mal y del bien by Calderon. Secondly, Don Gil de las calzas verdes by Tirso and explored El lindo don Diego by Moreto. Each one the these represents a different degree of palatable male identities given this particular social construct.

Machado, Gustavo Castagna January 2016 (has links)
This PhD dissertation investigated which were, how they were produced, and what were the motives for the production of legal doctrines used by the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court to decide the habeas corpora on political cases from the states and the federal district between 1906, from the arising tension during the Afonso Pena government between supporters of Pinheiro Machado and the president's support base in Congress, and 1915, the year of the senator's murder. It was employed as a theoretical framework the work of Michael Stolleis, which seeks to articulate history, legal history, and science of legal history, using the term “history” not only with the meaning of factual and normative changes, but also the meaning of expression, preparation, and intellectual and linguistic understanding of these changes, since it is always the interaction between historical change and conceptual thinking that conceptualizes, being the thought able to precede the events or follow them, commenting on them and interpreting them. This PhD dissertation has been divided into two chapters. In the first one, it is dealt with the emergence of the first republic, its basic characteristics, relevant institutions for this work, and the legal culture of the period, with the analysis of law schools, books, the lawyer’s profile, etc. This chapter is relevant to mark the boundaries of legal-political discussions, for instance, and to see that the way lawyers decided the cases in the Supreme Court in the researched period did not constitute an “exception.” In the second chapter, being held the division of sections according to the governments of presidents in the researched period, it is analyzed the STF's relationship with politics in the researched period by the analysis of habeas corpus procedures relating to political cases of states and district federal. The height of the tension was during Hermes da Fonseca’s government, during the politics of salvation and the subsequent pinheirista reaction when several political cases were judicialized and part of the judges of the court was identified with the hermismo, another part was identified with the pinheirismo (both usually allied groups) and part was identified with the opposition. It was a clear moment of STF’s division in the first republic. In the context of a higher education far from excellence, marked by self-education, many of the judges were good lawyers according to those standards, with knowledge of the doctrines and authors, national and foreigners, relevant at that time and space, and were able to create sophisticated legal doctrines, with a compelling appearance and without gross logical contradictions, from a broad and disjointed framework of national and international references, in order to defend their positions. They were the “adaptive lawyers” (Seelaender) in action. To identify the doctrinal strategy adopted by the judges, it was understood that the isolated analysis of the habeas corpus doctrines, disregarding the political context of the time and parallel legal discussions on theories of federal intervention, state of siege, constitutional review, and separation of powers, would be very misleading. It is essential to understand the interaction between these theories in the legal thinking of the researched actors. It was necessary to understand how these theories worked combined in the opinions cast by the judges in political cases to understand the actions of the judges. For example, on the one hand, one can see that the hermista Eneas Galvão concomitantly used to assign habeas corpus a broader scope of protection and decide that the judiciary could not review the constitutionality of federal intervention and state of siege decree issued by the President. On the other hand, one can see that the perrepista Pedro Lessa concurrently attributed to habeas corpus a narrower scope of protection, operating similarly to a possessory action, in the way he formulated the habeas corpus as a means able to protect “the freedom- condition, the freedom-means, so that it can be exercised the freedom-end,” and decided that the judiciary could review the constitutionality of federal intervention and the state of siege issued by the President, narrowing their scope, giving the states ruled by oligarchs in opposition to the federal government - with whom he and his faction were closely linked - more room to, at the same time, avoid federal intervention and deal with local opposition in the states. Of course, alongside more sophisticated lawyers, such as Eneas Galvão and Pedro Lessa, there were other less sophisticated, which, in addition to adopting a more bounding view of habeas corpus and judicial review, and a further amplifying vision of federal intervention and state of siege, tryed to solve the cases more simply, exclusively based on procedural matters. This was the case, e. g., of the pinheirista Pedro Mibielli.
