Influência de expectativas e do grupo de pares sobre o comportamento do uso de álcool entre estudantes da área da saúde: uma perspectiva das diferenças de gênero / Influence of expectancies and peer group on drinking behavior in university students of the health area: a perspective of gender differences.Alexandre Fachini 26 May 2009 (has links)
Recent evidences in scientific literature have indicated an increasing alcohol consumption in university students. Alcohol expectancies have been associated to the beginning and maintenance of drinking by young adults. Peer group is also a relevant aspect on young behavior, mainly on alcohol use. Both, alcohol expectancies and peer group can modulate drinking behavior of men and women by different pathways. This study aimed to evaluate gender differences of alcohol use, alcohol expectancies and peer relationship in university students of the health area. Observational, transversal study design on a convenience sample of 238 university students (105 men) from Medicine and Physiotherapy courses of the School of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of University of São Paulo. Students completed self-reported questionnaire, including AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), to evaluate alcohol use, AEQ-A (Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire - Adolescent Form), to evaluate alcohol expectancies, and DUSI (Drug Use Screening Inventory), to evaluate peer group. 92.1% of men and 81.2% of women declared to have drank alcohol in the last 12 months (X²=10.87; p=0.02). Men scored significantly higher on prevalence of problematic alcohol use and binge drinking (X²=8.13; p<0.01). Expectancies of positive global transformations (Z=-2.12; p=0.03) and sexual enhancement (Z=-2.76; p<0.01) associated to alcohol consumption were more evident in male. However, no gender differences on peer relationship was observed (Z=-1.67; p=0.09). Despite of increased alcohol use for both gender, male have presented a greater prevalence of alcohol use in the last 12 months, problematic alcohol use and binge drinking. Peer group may be a possible vulnerability factor on alcohol consumption, independent of gender. However, alcohol expectancies presented a positive correlation to alcohol use only in men. Results indicate that gender differences may have an important role for the development of more efficient strategies for alcohol abuse prevention.

Causes of variation in human cooperative behaviourMunro-Faure, Amy Louise January 2018 (has links)
This thesis investigates variation in human cooperative behaviour in naturally occurring contexts. I critically assess the prevailing consensus on human cooperation derived from laboratory games (such as the dictator and public goods games), by identifying real life analogues and conducting extensive field observation and experiments. My second chapter investigates the importance of context on social behaviour by taking a commonly used laboratory game, the dictator game, and studying analogous behaviour, giving to mendicants in the street. I conclude that individuals cooperate less in the wild than they do in the laboratory and that monetary pay-offs are important in cooperative decision-making. My third chapter examines how social cues influence peoples' likelihood of giving to mendicants. I conclude that increased group size and crowd density negatively affect donation behaviour. My fourth chapter investigates dog fouling in public parks to understand the causes of variation in cheating in a naturally occurring public goods game. I conclude that despite evidence that a social game is being played, the cues that influences decisions are unclear, and behaviour may depend on local social norms. My fifth chapter investigates social influences on red light jumping by cyclists at pedestrian crossings. I find that the probability of cheating is higher with fewer observers and when other cyclists also cheat.

Effect of untrained and trained peer tutors on the motor performance of students with developmental disabilities in integrated physical education classesHouston-Wilson, Cathy 12 August 1993 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of untrained and
trained peer tutors on the motor performance of students with developmental
disabilities in integrated physical education classes. This study utilized a single
subject delayed multiple baseline design across subjects.
Six elementary age students with developmental disabilities and six
nondisabled peer tutors participated in the study. The students were
videotaped during their physical education class and data were analyzed on
discrete motor skill responses. The students were assigned to one of two
protocols. Protocol 1 consisted of three conditions; baseline, assistance by an
untrained peer tutor, and assistance by a trained peer tutor. The results of
Protocol 1 data revealed that trained peer tutors were effective at assisting
subjects with developmental disabilities improve their motor performance, while
untrained peer tutors were not. As a result of these findings Protocol 2 which
consisted only of baseline and assistance by trained peer tutors, was utilized to
replicate and provide additional support for the effect of trained peer tutors. The
results of Protocol 2 revealed that trained peer tutors were effective at assisting
subjects with developmental disabilities improve their motor performance in
integrated physical education classes.
Trained peer tutors were provided with instruction in the following three
teaching areas: cueing, feedback, and reinforcement. The cueing techniques
followed the system of least prompts and included verbal cueing, modeling, and
physical assistance. Feedback information consisted of positive general and
positive specific reinforcement. Peer tutors were trained over two 30 minute
sessions. Pre-established criteria required the peer tutors to implement the
teaching behaviors with the researcher a minimum of 4 out 5 times, and receive
a score of 90% or better on the peer tutor quiz. All peers were successful at
meeting this criteria. Data were collected on the tutors' teaching behaviors
throughout the study via a wireless microphone. The results of the peer tutor
data revealed that the tutors were able to implement the tutor training program.
The results of this study demonstrate that elementary age peer tutors can
be trained to provide assistance to students with developmental disabilities in
integrated physical education classes. Recommendations for future research
are provided based on the results of this study. / Graduation date: 1994
