January 2001 (has links)
Abstract: In this dissertation we discuss the psychoanalytic method, from its creation by Sigmund Freud to later developments due to associates of Melaine Klein, in particular Wilfried Bion. We focus on the semiotic study of psychoanalytic practice, with particular attention given to the questions of observation and investigation. As a preliminary to this objective we expound the ideas of Charles Sanders Peirce concerning the sciences and semiotics. In order to better represent the object of study, we have constructed a diagram of a randomly chosen psychoanalytic session in order to study the semiose which occurs there. Applying this procedure to a larger and more varied collection of cases may make the approximation between psychoanalysis and semiotics more reliable, and help to produce a mutual enrichment through an interdisciplinary approach. / Mestre

January 2010 (has links)
The present work has as objective to reflect about the thematic of the Psychotherapy group in the psychoanalytical referential and present, from service experience, the possibility of the Psychotherapy group, based by an ethical and theoretical reference of the psychoanalysis by Jacques Lacan, with focus in the interpretation, in the sense of a rescue and redefinition of the practice of group psychotherapy. This theme is justified by finding jobs still scarce in the area, as well as the use made of such a practice, often guided by a practical interest and without regard to the specificity of the group as a treatment device. For such, we go through some works regarding the thematic, and, subsequently, questions that connect more directly the interpretation such as (re) definitions of some concepts; the social ties in the group; the position of the analyst and the effects in this trial. The analysis on the interpretation issue will be permeated by the rescue and criticism of some psychoanalytical approaches of group psychotherapy. This work is supported by reports of a group care experience in a Clinical School of Psychology. By the bibliographical rescue it is perceived the authors' impasse to define specificities of such practice. Thus, in this work, we intend to make a path through the presentation of some concepts of the theory referenced by the practical foundation. As such, working in the direction of the objectives set out, contrary to the subject alienation, from the hypothesis that the psychotherapy group may be a device in the production of meaning for the subjects that are stagnant in this production, this study is part of a proposal of a modality construction in the psychotherapy group in which the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan is applied (COSTA-ROSA, 2005) / Mestre

January 2012 (has links)
Diante disso, é necessário contextualizar a atualidade e apresentar alguns conceitos psicanalíticos como o narcisismo, a transitoriedade e o amor primário. Through clinical observations and in scientific literature, a growing feeling of emptiness in the current times has been noticed. On this purpose, this paper aims to understand this feeling - the vacuum - and its relation to the subjectivity on the current days, considering the psychoanalytic approach. The research presents a current understanding through the perspective of Sociology and also the possible relationship between psychoanalysis of Freud and Balint to understand this feeling. It is a theoretical-reflexive study that brings support for discussion of this common clinical phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary to contextualize the present and reveal some psychoanalytic concepts such as narcissism, the transitory and primary love. Taking into consideration that psychoanalysis is traversed in this theory through culture, it is possible to understand the void on the present days, as well as its relation to subjectivity. Conducting this study, it is possible to provide subsidies to understand the feeling of emptiness as a possibility, not pathological, but as a development / Mestre

January 2013 (has links)
The present study proposes the notion of human emancipation as an axis around which the ideas that constitute the fabric of the plural work of Wilhelm Reich are developed, permeating both the exercise of his clinical therapeutic work as well as his theoretical production. Based on the author's works and their unfolding in contemporary psychological practice, my goal is to understand "if" and "how" Reichian clinical practice, through therapeutic work and relationship can engender more emancipated modi vivendi. In this sense, the body and bodywork appear as privileged instances of the development of emancipating subjectivation processes and practices. Through empirical research, I basically intend to observe if in Reichian and neo-Reichian clinical practice, in view of the analytical material of corporal psychotherapy itself, there are questions concerning the broad issue of human emancipation, constantly present in Reich's reflections though terminologically not in the same manner / Doutor

The destructive element : English psychoanalysis, literature and criticism from the 1920s to World War TwoStonebridge, Lyndsey January 1995 (has links)
Whereas recent studies of psychoanalysis and modernism have tended to 'translate' literature through contemporary French psychoanalytic thought, this dissertation opens up a historical dialogue between English psychoanalysis, modernist writing, art criticism and literary criticism. I argue that a shared anxiety about the redemptive role of art in a period which both writers and analysts characterise as marked by 'unsublimated' drives towards destruction, is coupled with an increasing concern with the precariousness of the frontier between self and culture, and between art and the social and political ideologies upon which culture rests. This double movement is reflected in the structure of the dissertation which begins with a comparison of attempts to make a moral and~aesthetic out of 'the destructive element' by I.A. Richards and Melanie Klein, and ends with Marion Milner's and Stevie Smith's speculations on the complicity between the violence of the self and the violence of the outside world in the thirties. Other writers discussed include W.H. Auden, T.S. Eliot, Roger Fry and Virginia Woolf, as well as Ella Freeman Sharpe, Paula Heimann, Hanna Segal and Adrian Stokes.

Freud and secrecy : allegory, aesthetic and silence in psychoanalytic theoryMier, Raymundo January 1996 (has links)
The thesis seeks to explore one of the most singular features of Freudian thought, his radical position in the history of the ideas about language. One of my chief claims is that the Freudian endeavour is not oriented towards a conclusive theory of language as such, but of the conditions of its destruction, its exhaustion, its silence. The obscure centre of Freud's work, the passion for the shattering of language, manifests itself both as an affirmation and as a dissipation of the sense of speech, which cast some light upon the cardinal role of the notion of secrecy, not only in his comprension of language, but also in his conception of subjectivity. Thus, secrecy can be conceived as a fundamental feature of different facets of his writings. The first facet exhibits psychoanalysis as the inheritor of the progressive emergence of silence in the core of modern thought. I argue that the logic of secrecy which appears in Freud's early writings enacts the historical emergence of secrecy which pervaded different discourses of the nineteenth century. This singular logic had its origin at the confluence of the exalted discourses which enthrowned observation and experience in the positivistic conception of knowledge bred by the Enlightenment, the obscure cults of magnetism and the speculative conceptions of subjectivity which emerged from the crisis of the Enlightenment, with the rising of Romanticism and its powerful effects on the Western culture. The second facet exhibits the logic of secrecy as expressed by the acts of language. Secrecy introduces an inner discord in the meaning of signs: it reveals the obsolescence of the referential notion of truth. Allegory emerges from this discord as a privileged aesthetic and theoretical expression. Freud's theoretical creativity canceled the significance of the referential, discursive notion of truth with the violent implications of the notion of primary thought processes and a conception of primal experiences of pleasure and pain irreducible to the narrow margins of rationality. The radical dissipation of the conventional foundations of semantic truth brought into focus an aesthetic -Baroque~ conception of subjectivity. This vision pervades Freud's notion of psychical processes, and engendered a constellation of forms of theoretical expression: psychical processes were apprehended by allegorical figures: the fold, rhythm, movement, displacement involving paradoxical temporalities which offered a contrasting landscape of thought processes that informed desire and aroused anxiety; Freud created thus a theoretical chiaroscuro. A third facet involves two further Freudian notions: sexuality and pain. One of them, sexuality, is almost too notorious in Freud's work; the other, pain, was permanently and explicitly displaced, silenced, excluded. or even emphatically avoided in Freud's writings, and yet it is an notion inherent in his conception of subjectivity. Freud's subversion of the modem notion of experience might be thought of as founded upon his conception of the experience of pain as a constitution~ dimension of subjectivity, as its unspeakable, unapproachable, secret centre.

The talking cure in the 'tropics'Singh, Ashki January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation examines psychoanalysis in a colonial context, tracing its history in early to mid-twentieth century India. A rich, neglected archive of diaries, letters, administrative documents, as well as psychoanalytical and literary writing in Bengali and English, are drawn on to offer an account of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society (est. 1921), and the anthropologists, doctors, army officers and political figures who were in different ways intimately involved with psychoanalysis. Reconstructing these narratives, and by means of a close reading of texts by Freud, I suggest that the understandings of temporality, sexuality and authority in Freudian psychoanalysis resist colonial discourses of progress and civilisation, notably in relation to the category of the 'primitive', thus frustrating attempts to appropriate the theory for colonial endeavours. In this thesis, psychoanalysis is both an object of historical study, and a form of questioning, part of colonial history and a body of writing and theory available for contested readings. I discuss writing by two colonial psychoanalysts, Lt. Colonel Claud Daly, and Owen A.R. Berkeley Hill, which combines an investment in psychoanalysis with commitment to Empire, based on a desire for all-knowing psychic and political mastery. In contrast, the memoirs of renowned psychoanalyst Wilfred Bion, recounting his childhood in India, are read for their more complex psychic register and anti-colonial strain. Records left by dream-collecting colonial administrators in the Naga Hills, and documents relating to the trial and 'insanity plea' of revolutionary nationalist Gopinath Saha, show us the historical operations of psychoanalysis in collective life. In addition, literary writing by the modernist poet H.D., Temsula Ao, Bankimcandra Chatterji, and Rabindranath Tagore, offers another template for examining the issues raised by both the historical and psychoanalytical writing.
