Development of an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle specification of a fixed-wing vertical takeoff and landing aircraft / Desenvolvimento de um veículo aéreo não tripulado autônomo especificação de uma aeronave asa-fixa capaz de decolar e aterrissar verticalmente

Silva, Natássya Barlate Floro da 29 March 2018 (has links)
Several configurations of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were proposed to support different applications. One of them is the tailsitter, a fixed-wing aircraft that takes off and lands on its own tail, with the high endurance advantage from fixed-wing aircraft and, as helicopters and multicopters, not requiring a runway during takeoff and landing. However, a tailsitter has a complex operation with multiple flight stages, each one with its own particularities and requirements, which emphasises the necessity of a reliable autopilot for its use as a UAV. The literature already introduces tailsitter UAVs with complex mechanisms or with multiple counter-rotating propellers, but not one with only one propeller and without auxiliary structures to assist in the takeoff and landing. This thesis presents a tailsitter UAV, named AVALON (Autonomous VerticAL takeOff and laNding), and its autopilot, composed of 3 main units: Sensor Unit, Navigation Unit and Control Unit. In order to choose the most appropriate techniques for the autopilot, different solutions are evaluated. For Sensor Unit, Extended Kalman Filter and Unscented Kalman Filter estimate spatial information from multiple sensors data. Lookahead, Pure Pursuit and Line-of-Sight, Nonlinear Guidance Law and Vector Field path-following algorithms are extended to incorporate altitude information for Navigation Unit. In addition, a structure based on classical methods with decoupled Proportional-Integral-Derivative controllers is compared to a new control structure based on dynamic inversion. Together, all these techniques show the efficacy of AVALONs autopilot. Therefore, AVALON results in a small electric tailsitter UAV with a simple design, with only one propeller and without auxiliary structures to assist in the takeoff and landing, capable of executing all flight stages. Juntas, todas essas técnicas demonstram a eficácia do piloto automático do AVALON.

Filipe Marques Barbosa 04 December 2018 (has links)
Path following and lateral stability are crucial issues for autonomous vehicles. Moreover, these problems increase in complexity when handling heavy-duty vehicles due to their poor manoeuvrability, large sizes and mass variation. In addition, uncertainties on mass may have the potential to significantly decrease the performance of the system, even to the point of destabilising it. These parametric variations must be taken into account during the design of the controller. However, robust control techniques usually require offline adjustment of auxiliary tuning parameters, which is not practical and leads to sub-optimal operation. Hence, this work presents an approach to path-following and lateral control for autonomous heavy-duty vehicles subject to parametric uncertainties by using a robust recursive regulator. The main advantage of the proposed controller is that it does not depend on the offline adjustment of tuning parameters. Parametric uncertainties were assumed to be on the payload, and an H∞ controller was used for performance comparison in simulations. The performance of both controllers is evaluated in a double lane-change manoeuvre. Simulation results showed that the proposed method had better performance in terms of robustness, lateral stability, driving smoothness and safety, which demonstrates that it is a very promising control technique for practical applications. Ultimately, experiment tests in a rigid heavy-duty truck validate what was found in simulation results.

Controle longitudinal e lateral para veículos terrestres de categoria pesada / Longitudinal and lateral control for heavy category ground vehicles

Agostinho, Solander Patrício Lopes 25 September 2015 (has links)
This project presents the development of a longitudinal and lateral control for a Heavy Category Ground Vehicles, using the concept of generation of curves Clothoids. This control is closed loop with feedback speed and position (X,Y) ofvehicle in two-dimensional plane. Within an autonomous control architecture for a vehicle, the longitudinal control adjusts cruising speed on the path and the lateral control is responsible for regulating direction of steering wheel and its correspondence to the tires, which in turn drive the vehicle within the given path. For this control, the vehicle model we are only considering the horse (monolithic assembly formed by the cab, engine and truck drive wheels), disregarding any rear cargo engaged in it. First a brief introduction will be presented addressing the history and projects of autonomous vehicles, then it is made a review of the basic concepts used in the project. The next chapter is discussed the mathematical model of the vehicle (kinematics and dynamics) and soon we will have a section dealing on the proposed control structure. The following will show the discussion section on the implementation and practical results, then the conclusion and a brief description of future work.

State relativity and speed-allocated line-of-sight course control for path-following of underwater vehicles

Bilale, Abudureheman January 2018 (has links)
Path-following is a primary task for most marine, air or space crafts, especially during autonomous operations. Research on autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) has received large interests in the last few decades with research incentives emerging from the safe, cost-effective and practical solutions provided by their applications such as search and rescue, inspection and monitoring of pipe-lines ans sub-sea structures. This thesis presents a novel guidance system based on the popular line-of-sight (LOS) guidance law for path-following (PF) of underwater vehicles (UVs) subject to environmental disturbances. Mathematical modeling and dynamics of (UVs) is presented first. This is followed by a comprehensive literature review on guidance-based path-following control of marine vehicles, which includes revised definitions of the track-errors and more detailed illustrations of the general PF problem. A number of advances on relative equations of motion are made, which include an improved understanding of the fluid FLOW frame and expression of its motion states, an analytic method of modeling the signs of forces and moments and the proofs of passivity and boundedness of relative UV systems in 3-D. The revision in the relative equations of motion include the concept of state relativity, which is an improved understanding of relativity of motion states expressed in reference frames and is also useful in incorporating environmental disturbances. In addition, the concept of drift rate is introduced along with a revision on the angles of motion in 3-D. A switching mechanism was developed to overcome a drawback of a LOS guidance law, and the linear and nonlinear stability results of the LOS guidance laws have been provided, where distinctions are made between straight and curved PF cases. The guidance system employs the unique formulation and solution of the speed allocation problem of allocating a desired speed vector into x and y components, and the course control that employs the slip angle for desired heading for disturbance rejection. The guidance system and particularly the general course control problem has been extended to 3-D with the new definition of vertical-slip angle. The overall guidance system employing the revised relative system model, course control and speed allocation has performed well during path-following under strong ocean current and/or wave disturbances and measurement noises in both 2-D and 3-D scenarios. In 2-D and 3-D 4 degrees-of-freedom models (DOF), the common sway-underactuated and fully actuated cases are considered, and in 3-D 5-DOF model, sway and heave underactuated and fully actuated cases are considered. Stability results of the LOS guidance laws include the semi-global exponential stability (SGES) of the switching LOS guidance and enclosure-based LOS guidance for straight and curved paths, and SGES of the loolahead-based LOS guidance laws for curved paths. Feedback sliding mode and PID controllers are applied during PF providing a comparison between them, and simulations are carried out in MatLab.

Dynamic path following controllers for planar mobile robots

Akhtar, Adeel 13 October 2011 (has links)
In the field of mobile robotics, many applications require feedback control laws that provide perfect path following. Previous work has shown that transverse feedback linearization is an effective approach to designing path following controllers that achieve perfect path following and path invariance. This thesis uses transverse feedback linearization and augments it with dynamic extension to present a framework for designing path following controllers for certain kinematic models of mobile robots. This approach can be used to design path following controllers for a large class of paths. While transverse feedback linearization makes the desired path attractive and invariant, dynamic extension allows the closed-loop system to achieve the desired motion along the path. In particular, dynamic extension can be used to make the mobile robot track a desired velocity or acceleration profile while moving along a path.

Commande multisystème hiérarchisée pour le pilotage d'un avion autonome au sol / Hierachical multisystem control for autonomous taxiing of an aircraft

Lemay, David 15 December 2011 (has links)
In the context of worldwide air traffic growth and airport security improvement, the main aeronautics actors are currently investigating new systems, strived for autonomously piloting the aircraft while taxiing ground-borne. The present thesis deals with aircraft taxiing control and the design of a multivariable control architecture aimed at supervising all the ground acting systems: driving and braking systems of main wheels and the nose landing gear steering system. A global control architecture is introduced after a detailed modelling of the system dynamics and an analysis of the issues induced by the nonlinearities. A linear Q.F.T controller is synthesised to ensure robust control against uncertainties of the wheel angular dynamics, in both driving and braking operations. The vehicle lateral dynamics is controlled by means of a feedforward-feedback hybrid controller. The latter includes a nonlinear gain-scheduled controller designed by a modal approach. All the architecture control loops are finally validated in a high level path following control, achieved with the “follow the carrot” geometric method. A set of representative simulations show the overall good performances and validate the whole proposed solution.
