The First Interactive Medium : How a Player Can Change a Game & How a Game Can Change a PlayerTaherkhani, Kiarash January 2023 (has links)
This thesis explores the transformative potential of the co-authorship dynamic between game developers and players in The Squared Circle, an abstract video game designed to facilitate personality development. Drawing inspiration from existentialist philosophy, psychotherapy, and game design, the study examines the intricate interplay between gameplay mechanics, narrative depth, and psychological exploration. Employing a research-through-design methodology, the researcher analyzes The Squared Circle’s elements through psychological, philosophical, and ludological literature. The game's initial focus on engaging gameplay mechanics evolved to incorporate textual significance and symbolic play, inspired by Carl Jung's theory of Individuation. Through playtesting, observations, and interviews, the study investigates the psychological and philosophical effects of the game. Players engage in symbolic representation and journaling, delving into their unconscious aspects and exploring personal experiences within the game world. The co-authorship dynamic fosters introspection expands self-understanding, and invites transformative experiences. The findings highlight the significance of journaling and symbolic play as tools for personal growth and self-expression within the game. Players navigate the symbolic landscape, uncover hidden meanings, and co-create their own narrative, leading to increased self-awareness and psychological integration. This research contributes to understanding games as a medium for personal transformation and psychological exploration. The study underscores the importance of co-authorship, journaling, and symbolic representation in designing games that facilitate introspection, meaningful experiences, and the development of the player's personality.

The Personality Pattern of Hyperactive Boys: Adjustments in Internality, Self-Esteem, and AnxietyBolton, Ronald Eugene 12 1900 (has links)
During the past 80 years, similar descriptions of a hyperactive behavior pattern in children have appeared in medical, educational, and psychological literature. Hyperactivity has been conceptualized as a character disorder, an organic disorder, and, most recently, as a behavior disorder. In this study, hyperactivity was explained in interactional terms, using Rotter's social learning theory of personality. Little consideration has been given in research to the influence of an abnormally high activity level upon personality development during childhood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the general influence of negative interactions associated with hyperactivity upon the organization of four personality constructs: locus of control, self-esteem, trait anxiety, and state anxiety.

Acquisition development and demonstration of grit among latina teachers from the central San Joaquin ValleyMitchell, Jane Virginia 01 January 2015 (has links) (PDF)
This qualitative collective case study explored how four female Latina teachers in the Central San Joaquin Valley acquired and developed the noncognitive trait of grit. Additionally, this study explored how the manifestation of this noncognitive trait of grit is demonstrated by these teachers with students in their classrooms. Through a series of interviews, and classroom observations with annotated field notes, I examined the life experiences and professional educational background of participants in order to highlight factors that are contributory and fundamental in the underpinnings of how grit developed in each of their lives. I examined and analyzed distinctive traits, specific influences, and behaviors.
The theoretical framework developed by Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews and Kelly (2007) provided the background structure to help in understanding the noncognitive trait of grit. This exploration extended current scholarship on grit by exploring one specific cultural and gendered-subset of teachers to aid in the understanding of how grit emerges in teachers deemed exceptional.
This qualitative case study addresses the following questions:
1. From the perspective of four female Latina teachers, what is grit?
2. From the perspectives of four female Latina teachers, in what ways has grit been acquired, developed and demonstrated?
3. From the perspective of four female Latina teachers, how has gender and race shaped their experiences in grit?
4. From the perspectives of four female Latina teachers, and as evidenced by student outcomes, how does the trait of grit impact teacher effectiveness?

Theologische Ausbildungsstätten und ihr Beitrag zur Persönlichkeitsentwicklung ihrer Studierenden im Blick auf Mission: eine exemplarische Konzeptentwicklung am Beispiel des Theologischen Seminars der Liebenzeller Mission = Theological Seminaries and their contribution to the personality development of their students in respect to mission: an exemplary development of a concept for theTheological Seminary of the Liebenzell MissionEisinger, Thomas 30 November 2007 (has links)
Text in German / Based on the "Cycle of mission praxis" developed by Karecki the present
study develops a model for personality development for institutions of
theological training. This model presents a conceptual framework which
these institutions can use to develop a concept for the personality development
of their students. The model serves as methodological basis for
the development of character traits which qualify a prospective full-time
Christian worker for his/her ministry in the kingdom of God.
In a second step the model will be applied to the specific context of the
Theological Seminary of the Liebenzell Mission (ThSLM). This requires a
context-analysis which grapples with the societal developments during
the last decades in Germany with a special emphasis on the developments
in German evangelicalism. The analysis also deals with the
ThSLM. And it focuses on the individual student with his/her development
and potential.
The theological reflection develops framework principles of a biblically
oriented anthropology, points out the pastoral theological demands of potential employers, and relates these insights to Clinton's discoveries regarding leadership development.
The next chapter deals with the theme of identification. The question of
motivation is central for a concept like this. This applies also to the expectation with regard to the motivation and views of lecturers who teach in a school which is committed to a triadic view of education.
These investigations lead to the development, definition and description
of spiritual and social quality markers which are expected from future fulltime
ministers in mission work and which are therefore part of the curriculum
of the ThSLM.
The development of the concept is rounded off by the explication of concrete
steps for its implementation. These steps show how an institution
can assist students in the development of these quality markers.
The present study develops a model and applies this model by means of
an example. The model answers to the call which repeatedly appears in
missiological debates for a comprehensive, holistic development of spiritual
leaders. The study points out which steps institutions for theological
training can undertake to contribute to this goal in the early phase of ministry
preparation. / Missiology / D. Th. (Missiology)

Autokybernetik und Persönlichkeit junger Leiter / Auto-cybernetics and personality of young leadersKlein, Joachim Alexander 02 1900 (has links)
The study tries to clarify the meaning of “auto-cybernetics” in the theological
environment and to explore its impact in relation to the personality of young
leaders in the church context. The view is especially noticeable in the stage of
development of the so-called Emerging Adulthood (18-28 years). Due to the
increasing self-organization and self-orientation required by the society with many
constraints self-regulation becomes more and more important to the life of young
leaders. In the first part of the work the fundamentals of auto-cybernetics within the
Practical Theology are stated. In a second part factors of the auto-cybernetics are
seized and bundled using different models. In a third empirical part the identified
factors are to be tested in practice. The relevance of auto-cybernetics in the
practice of young leaders is in the centre. It will be determine how young leaders
do practice this self-regulation and in which extension. / Practical Theology / M. Th. (Practical Theology)

Projektivní techniky a práce se symboly jako nástroj osobnostního rozvoje / Projective techniques and work with symbols as a tool for personality developmentBobek, Milan January 2015 (has links)
The work focuses on qualitative research of possibilities and limits of the use of picture cards symbols (including Tarot) that would serve the clients in coaching and therapy as a projective technique leading to their deeper self-knowledge and personal development. Respondents told their life story based on picture cards. We show here under what conditions this projective technique brought them new information and inspiration for their self- development, in what forms the method can be applied and what methodical procedures are most effective. The simple clients' description of the selected images did not bring them much substantially new. It began to be more inspirational for them when a consultant added targeted questions, his reflections and hypothetical interpretations, or even explained standard meanings of symbols. Then this technique started to speak to clients more and brought them new impulses. Even more inspiring for them it became, once an element of chance was incorporated - when they pulled out some cards at random. The thesis finally formulates detailed recommended general methodology for projective technique application for personal growth and discusses possibilities and limits of the use of projective methods in coaching, therapy and personal development seminars.
