[en] NEW DEMANDS FOR OLD QUESTIONS: PROFESSIONAL REQUESTS TO SOCIAL WORKERS IN PHILANTHROPIC INSTITUTIONS AFTER SUAS / [pt] NOVAS DEMANDAS PARA VELHAS QUESTÕES: REQUISIÇÕES PROFISSIONAIS AOS ASSISTENTES SOCIAIS EM INSTITUIÇÕES FILANTRÓPICAS PÓS SUAS

PRISCILA AMBROZIO GONÇALVES 05 September 2018 (has links)
[en] The present dissertation New demands for old questions: professional requests to social workers in philanthropic institutions after SUAS, had as main objective to analyze the requisitions of the philanthropic entities to the work of the Social Worker after the implementation of the Unique System of Social Assistance (SUAS), from 2005. carried out a critical analysis of the process of implementation of SUAS and the new regulations for the work of the philanthropic entities that this management system has developed throughout its institutionalization in Brazil that is permeated by disputes and contradictions between traditional and conservative practices and, on the other hand, that seek the professionalization of these services, historically linked to charity and benesse. It is verified that these regulations incorporate the managerialist and bureaucratic logic of the social policies reform, initiated in Brazil in the 1990s with the neoliberal appeal and that directly impact the requisitions to the professionals that work in these spaces, in particular the social workers.

Of late, the number of social work initiatives taken on by private groups, including businesses, has grown. The growth can be explained, in part, by the government's attempt to shift the locus of responsibility for unequal social rights to civil society. Through financial donations and other activities some businesses have attempted to diminish social problems by developing social responsibility projects. The social responsibility movement first appeared in the United States during the first half of the 20th century. It originated in the philanthropic posture adopted by some North American business leaders, such as Andrew Carnegie, and pursued by some U.S. businesses. Over the decades, the practice of corporate sponsorship of various educational, cultural, and social assistance projects became more and more common. In Brazil, social responsibility by the private sector is relatively new. It takes the form of a new kind of social action designed to confront the challenges of a decreased social integration capacity and the bad image that such a society creates. Businesses benefit from their social responsibility projects by attracting more consumers. Their activities serve as a form of marketing, transmitting to consumers the idea that the company practices good citizenship. This new kind of business activity holds forth the promise of acting like a brake on some of the less desirable effects of a market economy. To understand the complexity of this theme and place it in theoretical context, an extensive review of the literature was combined with empirical research on two Ribeirão Preto/SP businesses. The cases were selected using qualitative methodology. The investigation...(Complete abstract, click electronic access below)

Gouverner les pauvres : genèse, pratiques et usages de la conditionnalité comportementale en France et aux Etats-Unis / Governing the poor : an inquiry about behavioral conditionality in the United States and in France

Chelle, Elisa 17 November 2011 (has links)
This study provides a comparative analysis of two anti-poverty initiatives in New York (Opportunity NYC) and in France (Revenue for Active Solidarity). It is based on extensive fieldwork and numerous interviews in both countries. Conditioning subsidies on behavior and giving a nudge “to do the right thing” by structuring the choices of the poor now defines the way poverty is fought against. The political agenda is built around the concept of making conditional social policy non-partisan solutions. Policy transfers, data-making or experimental design figure among the ways of taking politics out of policy-making. This study finds there is no such thing and that these programs reflect a substantive political orientation. The mechanisms used to motivate the poor are different. They are more than just an economic incentive that binds reward and behavior together. They are less than a coercive approach where work is mandatory to get relief. The nudge emerges as a third way that consists in a paradoxical injunction: governing the poor to govern themselves. No entitlement there. If this is nothing new in America, this is new in France. Hence, policy is not legitimated by effectiveness, like it used to be with new public management, but by moralistic assumptions. Reform is based more on commonsense than technical arguments. The work ethics and the “good choices” justify the money spent for the poor (public in France, private in New York). The experimental design, once appropriated by political instances, gives a scientific glow to these programs so they appear “universal” and “neutral”. In a nutshell, this dissertation explores how poverty is governed by a policy-mix of politics and science

Histoire des oeuvres sociales de l'Eglise Vaudoise / History of the social works of the Waldensian Church / Storia delle opere sociali della Chiesa Valdese

Baral, Simone 20 November 2017 (has links)
Despite being composed of a limited number of members (about 20000), during the XIXth century the Italian Waldensian Church succeeded in developing a great amount of social works, thanks to a network of relations with the “Protestant International” in Europe and Northern America. This social effort resulted in the development of hospitals, retirement houses, orphanages, professional schools, summer schools and monetary assistance to the poor. This thesis explores a century of Italian social and religious history – from the Restauration to the birth of national legislation on welfare in the Crispinian period – a long three axes of research (the link between church and social works, the relationship between the ecclesiastic and national social intervention, the issue of funding). Its main aim is to identify the steps that allowed this little reformed church to undergo such a significant transformation: from being the recipient of foreign assistance to being one of the key agents in Italian social assistance.

Investimento social privado e políticas educacionais: um olhar sobre as organizações brasileiras / Corporate philanthropy and education policy: a study on Brazilians organizations

Paula Santana Santos 05 April 2018 (has links)
The main objective of this research is to understand the institutionalization process of the incidence in the educational policies adopted by the corporate philanthropy (CP) organizations in Brazil. This present study covered how the CP organizations directly or indirectly had to learn and structure themselves to deal with public policies in order to achieve the institutional goals with a huge impact on education. A better comprehension of the intersection between the CP and the Government is in itself an interesting subject of study, however, the emphasis of this research is focused on understanding the alternatives found by organizations to move from one-off activities with their own projects in the education area to structured actions that seek to effectively influence public educational policies of municipal, state and federal scope. For the purpose of characterizing this phenomenon, the organizational field of CP was analyzed and it was deepened in the structure and practices of 3 prominent organizations in the field: the Fundação Leman, Instituto Natura and Instituto Unibanco. As an analytical view, the Institutional Theory, allowed to analyze which are the organizational advances or constrain elements of institutionalization process of ISP practice concerning public policies, as well as to understand the role of this practice in the organizational field of the CP. For this purpose, the concepts of organizational field and process of institutionalization of practices were adopted. The research has systematized the main contributions of the literature to understand the phenomenon and the current configuration, as well as schematized the main dimensions of sedimentation practices and legitimation processes. This study has concluded that the CP alignment with public policies is a practice in the stage of institutionalization, and therefore it deserves greater attention from academics and society for its understanding and its potential consequences for Brazilian society through an unpolarized and critical view

The optimal composition of philanthropy in technology industry: type of philanthropy, location of cause, CEO image and consumer lifestyles

Chang, Ling Yi Unknown Date (has links)
Recently, corporate social responsibility has become so flourish, in that implementation of corporate social responsibility embedded enterprises with more competitive advantage. And CSR is regarded as opportunities for enterprises, from which to create and share the value of stakeholders. That’s why more and more companies steps into the field of corporate social responsibility. Among all CSR activities, corporate philanthropies are the most extensive ones, for it involving the highest degree of business participation. In the age of Internet, we can often see the exposure of CEOs of the technology industry in news and social media, so they are sometimes be seen as the corporate image. Therefore, this research assumes that CEO could be a convincing spokesman for corporate philanthropies. Furthermore, Taiwan's high-tech industry is not only the first to pay attention to social responsibility, but also the best practice benchmark among all sectors. Therefore, this study attempt to find out an optimal combination of corporate philanthropies in the technology industry - "what type of corporate philanthropies, where, by what kind of image of the executive CEO endorsement," attracting customers most. And what kind of corporate philanthropies combination is the most efficient fit for consumers with different lifestyles? Through the research above, this study tries to establish general principles for compositions of corporate philanthropies. To analyze the preferences of consumers with different lifestyles, the researcher uses the conjoint analysis mainly, with ANOVA analysis and demographic variables. In conclusion, we obtain the best optimal compositions as follows: 1. For consumers as a whole, the most important attributes are "location of a cause ," type of philanthropy "and "CEO image" in descending order. The personal levels of each attribute are "Taiwan," "Environmental Conservation - Green Production" and "Careful- Mark Zuckerberg." 2. Consumers are divided into four groups according to lifestyles: (1)Innovative group: Taiwan, Star-ups accelerator, and Terry Gou. (2)Fashionable group, pragmatic group and contented group: Taiwan, Green production, and Mark Zuckerberg.
