Rui Knopfli e Manuel Alegre: de exílios e insílios, a poesia / Rui Knopfli and Manuel Alegre: from exiles and inner exiles, the Poetry

Kelly Mendes Lima 26 April 2017 (has links)
The thesis presents a comparative study between the poetic work of the Mozambican Rui Knopfli (1932-1997) and that one of the Portuguese Manuel Alegre (1936-) from the concept of \"self writing\" (M. Foucault, 1983). It accompanies and reflects on the literary course of both authors, establishing relations with their experiences of public knowledge and their conceptions regarding literature, politics and homeland. In short, their poetic subjects, just like those historical subjects, are decentered in relation to any \"official\" discourse, whether the narrowest of the Academies and the Literary Criticism, or the broadest of the Portuguese Estado Novo and even that one of political groups opposed to it, including, in the case of the African writer, the one coming from the Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo). They are therefore \"displaced\" voices, from an I in inner exile. However, this sense is not restricted to the figurative: both in their objective reality, even in alternated moments, were marked by the exit, traumatic and for political reasons, from their original place, from their space, from their homeland; they did indeed know the physical exile and, likewise, transformed this experience into poetic matter. Throughout their journeys, always under the sign of displaced or decentralized, the poetry of both is equally active and full of paths and misfortunes quite close and if History and the sensitive world are gaining airs of disillusionment for those men, the poetic discourse shows that it can be beyond the means to denounce aesthetically the Portuguese dictatorship and colonization and the pain and suffering of those involved in the colonial / independence wars. Poetry is also the space, process and result for and of a reflection on the part of the being, constituting this discursivization like a \"self writing\". In addition, Poetry, which finally becomes the possible homeland, goes beyond the political-geographical limits of the territory where they are or would like to be and even and above all the limits of death, the ultimate exile of life, always on the look-out and that can be felt more and more as time goes by.

Ecos de Lilith: um olhar para a construção da feminilidade em romances portugueses pós-revolução / Echoes of Lilith: a look for the construction of femininity in portuguese romances post-revolution

Sá, Sheila Pelegri de 19 June 2009 (has links)
The investigation of fictional narrative leads to an approach beyond the universe of literary theory, discursive issues representing historical, sociological and anthropological insights, among which the genre identity may be cited. In this way, the psychoanalytical tools enable the analysis of the referring systems which constitute the femininity. This work reflects upon the contemporaneous femininity which has been inserted in the Portuguese context within the dictatorship period, and built up discursively in a post-revolutionary era. Most times this femininity proves itself to be contrary to the moral values established by the western Jewish Christian thoughts; such values set women mostly to an inferior, passive, submissive and castrated position. By focusing on female characters in the Portuguese prose from the last three decades, another paradigm is brought up, mainly sideways to the imposed common social patterns: the libertarian, active and independent woman is brought to life, the one who breaks away from rules imposed by family, society and religion. It is relevant to observe that four of such characters are discursively constituted from a male perspective, within the narrative and authorial focus. The counterpoint is set in the choice of a female character, based on a feminine authorial perspective. For this proposed approach to take place, five novels have been fully taken into consideration: Ballad of Dogs Beach and Alexandra Alpha, from José Cardoso Pires, Virtue and Vices and Peter and Paula, by Helder Macedo and The Murmuring Coast, by Lidia Jorge.

Alma à janela: perfil intensivo de Álvaro de Campos / Window to the soul: intensive profile of Álvaro de Campos

Gomes, José Ney Costa 24 August 2009 (has links)
This thesis examines the peculiar poetic subjectivity in Álvaro de Campos, relating to the other heteronyms pessoanos as a matter of intensive degree. Starting from the Campos principle of poetry as a force, it applies deleuziano concepts to interpret that force in terms of intensive plateaus, affects and percepts and formation of an outside; therefore, as constituents aspects of poetic subject. Five major poems covering the three thematic stages on Álvaro de Camposs poetry are analyzed as a same profile marked by the rubric of intensity. The chosen poems are discussed in terms of intensive plateaus, namely: 1) the voyage on board of a ship in Opiário and a city tour in Ode Triumphal; 2) the plateau viewed from the pier in Ode Marítima; 3) the book plateau, in Ode to Walt Whitman, 4) the outsides plateau in Ultimatum manifest and finally, 5) the plateau of the mansard, in Tabacaria. It also examines the whole camposiano literary becoming aiming to highlight the intensive traces so that provide his peculiar profile. The analysis starts from the poets image at the window as a perceptive metaphor; he confronts the world bent outwards, and expresses by means of figures and features all events which affect him. We conclude that this \"soul to window, or perceptive look toward outside is what, by embodying the forces of alterity, may have allowed Álvaro de Campos its unique poetic garb.

O letrado e o óbolo - Vieira e a justificação da pobreza / The literate and the obol - Vieira and the justification of poverty

Pereira, Rosemeire França de Assis Rodrigues 21 June 2012 (has links)
This research aims to analyze the writings of the Jesuit Antonio Vieira about poverty, inasmuch they are related to religious thoughts in that period. Considering the quantity of writings, either speeches or letters, we have selected those ones keeping closer relationships to that theme. Discussing this issue, we have researched about XVII Century, focusing mainly the poverty, misery and bastardy. The close relationships of historical and documental speeches to Vieiras writings reveal us how was the society managed by the Portuguese and how they tried to insert themselves in the Modernity, rethinking the economical organization and redrawing the social panorama in Portugal.

Um manual para a vida, por José Saramago: o limiar da nova humanidade / A manual for life, by José Saramago: the threshold of the new humanity

Diogenes, Nivaldo Medeiros 10 October 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents a study on the use of threshold along some novels of Jose Saramago. To this end, draws on the analysis of works of Manual de pintura e caligrafia, Caim, O Evangelho Segundo Jesus Cristo, Todos os nomes, O homem duplicado, A cavernaand A jangada de pedraaiming to show how the senses are constructed to from the use of the threshold as an artistic feature. Grounded in theoretical conceptions of the threshold, there is a first proposal of the invariants of the threshold for the work of José Saramago: the threshold of humanity, the threshold of knowledge and the edge of society. Finally, also stands out the path taken by theauthor to target existing discourses within each threshold.

An intertextual analysis of the piece What will I do with this Book?, by José Saramago

Cybele Regina Melo dos Santos 05 October 2018 (has links)
This present study consisted in the analysis and critical interpretation of the theatrical text What will I do with this Book? (1980), written by Portuguese writer José Saramago, being possible to establish a intertextual relation with the epic work Os Lusíadas (1572), by Luís de Camões. With this piece, Saramago proposes to his readers a vision of the historical and political moment of Portugal in the 16th century, making possible to analyze the social, cultural and economical issues at the time. Among the issues, we studied the role of the censorship and of the editorial market for the Portuguese literature and the influence of the black plague in Lisbon inhabitants life. Another point of analysis of this research was to identify how was the reception of the literary work Os Lusíadas in the society of that time, mainly due to the difficulties found by the main character Camões to obtain concession to publish it. The approach of the inquisitorial censorship (16th century) with the dictatorial (of the 20th century) in Portugal, was also an aspect of deepening of our survey. The research was structured in a bibliographical revision with the reading of works and texts which dealt with relevant matters to the theme. From a cutting of the piece we searched for some titles of the history, the theater and the Portuguese literature, besides the critical theory, relating with other works by Saramago. The analysis of the material of our research led us to consider that, besides the financial aspect, the censorship was one of the main difficulties faced by Camões. When we make a parallel with the 20th century, we realize that the censorship also caused upsets for several writers and Portuguese playwrights. The characters that compose the piece are constituted of significant historical figures for the 19th century Portuguese history, standing out Damião de Góis, Diogo do Couto and Priest Bartolomeu Ferreira, being present also in the protagonists life. The rescue of the two figures considered as myths for the Portuguese was done in the characters of Camões and D. Sebastião, which presence we could verify in countless theatrical texts in the 20th century. The character of Camões was composed in a way to present a humanized image, approximating him of the daily life and contributing, in a certain way, with the fulfillment of gaps in his imprecise biography. Finally, the dialogue between fiction and history allowed to accompany the rule of Saramago and his work in the historical, cultural and social context of Portugal, besides identifying the value of his writing in the dramatic gender.

January 2009 (has links)
O leitor é, portanto, chamado a se infiltrar nos meandros da rede ficcional, que trama seus fios, em Os teclados, com os sons do piano, dando origem a um concerto de palavras e notas musicais, linha melódica que se espraia ocupando o espaço da página em branco / Abstract: The confluences and ruptures of literary genre, to which contemporary texts are subjected, as well as the dissolution of several narrative categories, are noticed in the book Os teclados, by Teolinda Gersão, that allows us to identify a strong relationship between two lines of artistic expression: music and literature. Regarding the fact that this relationship is due to the comparison between the keyboard from the piano and the keyboard from the computer, a deeper analyses take us to a matafictional dimension, in which the text is self-referent and self-questioning. Music would be, then, a procedure used to state the literary elaborative process of the text. Due to the strong presence of sounds in the narrative, we go through the 'voices' of the text, establishing parallels between characters and musical notes. The placement, in the text, of aspects which are private to the musical universe constitute itself as a presence that echoes significantly and that goes beyond the thematical level, being also found in the structural level. These musical echoes are identified in parts of the narrative that resemble the tenuto, indication that a note or accord must be held for indeterminate time, or the staccato, the playing of a note in a fast and unique way. In this work, we also reflect about the participation of the reader in contemporary narrative, once the texts that focus their own artistic creative process require the active participation of the reader, that presents itself as a sort of co-creator, due to the necessary involvement, intellectually and imaginatively, in the re-creation of the text. Therefore, the reader is called to place itself among the fictional web, which connects its cables, in Os teclados, with the sounds from the piano, creating a concert of words and musical notes, melodic line that spreads itself, fulfilling the space of the blank page / Mestre

A mão que balança o berço - funções do feminino em Júlio Dinis / The hand that rocks the cradle - the female protagonists in Júlio Dinis\' works

Fedeli, Maria Ivone Pereira de Miranda 05 November 2007 (has links)
This work studies the heroines of Julio Dinis. Showing as in the author\'s narrative universe, the female protagonists, which are a synthesis between the traditional and the new, determine the narrative events direction, bringing a fictional solution to political-social conflicts. Such solution passes through the feeling category and is presented in a text whose metaphorical characteristics are supported by a pedagogical intentionality.
