Design thinking and TRIZ integration in the conceptual phase of an automotive new product development process.Ricardo Henrique da Silva 02 April 2018 (has links)
This research aimed to verify whether the methodology of Design Thinking (DT) and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) could be used together synergistically in the conceptual phase of a new product development project (NPD) in the automotive industry through the also know APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process. The main purpose was to leverage the creativity by generating ideas that are more qualified and, at the same time, select the best product concepts to be taken to the next phases of the NPD. This research seeks to understand within the literature the strengths and limitations of each of the methodologies and, at the same time, a proposal is made on how to integrate them into the APQP methodology. The proposed process is then tested in a project of mass reduction of the door body seal of an automotive vehicle. As shall be demonstrated, the automotive NPD, by using the improvement proposal, will become more effective by leveraging the creativity while consolidates a conceptual stage within the APQP. Through this research, it is concluded that both methodologies are synergistic and, therefore, can bring improvements for the current APQP process by leveraging the quality and assertiveness of the generation of ideas, as well as supporting to select the best concept to be taken to the next phases.

To be or not to be, that is the question of sustainabilityLjung, Frida, Löfgren, Alexandra January 2017 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine what consideration is taken by fast fashion and functional fashion companies into the ecological perspective within CSR regarding the choice of the design and material during the product development process. The study also aims at examining how the CSR activities differ between the various companies. Method: The design of this study is based on a qualitative research method with a deductive approach. The empirical data was collected by interviewing respondents who hold knowledge within CSR, design, materials and product development. The theoretical framework consists of peer reviewed articles and books. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study shows that CSR is a complex term with multiple definitions that needs to be redefined so that companies can get a clear understanding of its meaning. The desire to work with CSR needs to come from top management to ensure a great impact and a successful integration across all departments within the company. The designers have a great impact on whether the garment becomes organic or not because of their involvement in the beginning of the product development process. A number of design strategies are presented on how to make a product more organic. The choice of material is also critical in developing organic products where new alternative materials and less harmful coatings have emerged. Finally, recycling is considered to be a future solution in reducing textile waste, however extended knowledge and technology are sought to succeed. / Företagsekonomi III - Detaljhandel och service management: examensarbete (kandidat)

Analysis Of Generalized Product Development Process Architecture Using Design Structure MatricesSrinivasa Murthy, P N 06 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Product development process (PDP) architecture holds the key to the management of New Product Development (NPD). A lot of care is exercised in managing the NPD to reduce risk and uncertainties. There exists potential scope for improvement both in initial planning as well as execution of the NPD program by studying the PDP architecture. This research work seeks to taps this potential and presents an analytical tool to aid the NPD Managers.
In this research work Design Structure Matrices (DSM) are used to represent the PDP architecture. The Work Transformation Matrix (WTM) is a kind of DSM and it was introduced for the analysis of concurrent task structures. However a generalized task structure has not been studied analytically in the literature. In order to study a generalized task structure we add two new matrix types to the WTM set to represent the task network interconnections and the task interdependence. First we study the pure sequential task iteration structure for NPD and show that it has lower engineering effort (cost and time) than the concurrent task iteration structure previously discussed in literature. Next we study the generalized task iteration structure and derive the expressions for total work and cost vectors. This is a major research contribution since only simulation based methods are currently available for studying generalized task iteration structures. The optimization of sequencing interdependent tasks is a well known NP hard problem in NPD literature. For small sized task sets, exhaustive enumeration of all possible sequencing and their corresponding time or cost vectors can be computed to determine the optimal sequence. However for large sized task networks, only heuristic methods are deployed. Using the closed form expression for cost and time vectors for a pure sequential task iteration structure derived earlier in this research work, we attempt to devise a method to optimally sequence the design tasks. We develop new matrix combining both the node and link weightages of task network. Using the time vector relationship between sequential and concurrent task structures, it is shown that the optimal task sequence corresponds to the reordering of this combined matrix whose “Dominance index” (sum above the diagonal) is minimum. Finally, we use some of the standard test cases from the PDP literature to demonstrate our research findings.

Development and simulation of a safety bracket for a safety systemAndersson, Robin, Timalm, Robert January 2020 (has links)
This thesis report aims to help the client developing their new product. The new product to be developed is a safety bracket for a safety system. The safety bracket connects different parts which create the safety system and it should be able to withstand impacts from moving objects. The client has a set of requirements that needs to be addressed during the product development process. One of the most important requirements that must be fulfilled is the given impact energy that the safety bracket must withstand. The methodology used during this thesis work is the product development processes (PDP). The product development process is used to find concepts that have the potential to answer the research questions and to fulfil the requirements. Some methods used in the product development process are brainstorming, brainwriting and combining working principles. The concepts were evaluated with a combination of Pugh´s matrix and weighting matrix. The three best concepts were selected for further development and tested with FEA simulation with Abaqus CAE. The impact simulation gave indications if the concepts could handle the impact energy and if they could fulfil the requirements. All three concepts could withstand the impact energy based on the simulations and most of the requirements could be fulfilled. The concepts with thinner profile walls had a reduction in stress and an increase in impact duration, where the kinetic energy is distributed throughout the impact. A protective shell helps with the reduction of stress and the energy absorption during the impact simulation.

Development of Next Generation RollatorLjungqvist, Ebba, Stegs Johansson, Sofia January 2015 (has links)
Today the county councils in Sweden prescribe rollators, but in the near future, the retail market for rollators will increase simultaneously with increased pressure within customer requirements. Among the users there is an increased awareness and urge to have a rollator that is up to date according to today’s development of the society. Which the current rollators on the market does not do. The demands from the customer have therefore started to change and are increasing within the coming generations. This is a result of the availability and possibility of all types of information regarding the subject. This means that there is a gap on the market that is growing, which leaves room for developing of a new product, to be able to keep up with technological progress. The goal was to deliver a reasonable concept proposal for a new rollator that with further development could be taken on to the next phase of development and production. The work also aims to clarify the next generation’s customer demands. Identify the issues surrounding today's prescriptions of rollators, as well as clarify the values that are imbedded in the product. The work has been based on a method called Pretzel, which is a product developing process developed by the company Scalae. Mapping of the society's value and norms connected to the rollators shows that the biggest problem among people is the early acceptance of the aid, this results in late prescribing of rollators. Which means that unnecessary injury often occurs, that is in not only unfortunately for the injured person but also a big cost for the society. Especially in comparison with the prescription cost of a rollator. These problems are thereby deep-rooted in values that closely connected to the slow development of rollators. The technological development today is extremely fast and new products are launched on the market at increasingly speed. For example, it would be very unusually to have the same model of mobile phone as your mother had when she was young. But when it comes to rollators, it is most possible that you may get the same model as your grandmother. To decrease the resistance against rollators the final concept is inspired by existing products on the market that already are accepted by the society. Although in other contexts, such as strollers and shopping carts. By using design and functions that the user is already are familiar with reach acceptance faster and reduce the risk of injuries. The final concept is called the Dramator and is a hybrid between a shopping cart and a rollator.
