The work exposed in this thesis focuses on a contribution to techniques of graph embedding, applied to pattern recognition, aiming to take advantages of the richness of structural methods and the efficiency of statistical tools. We present a new embedding, joining the category of graph probing. The first contribution of this thesis deals with the embedding of the graph topology in a vectorial representation, based on the counting of patterns (subgraphs) stemming of a lexicon generated independently of the context. These patterns permit the minimization of losses of the topological information during the embedding. The second contribution focuses on the integration of the information related to labels inside our embedding by adding their counting. To deal with problems linked to the nature and the variability of the attributes, we suggest two solutions to reduce the number of label classes. The first one consists of discretizing numeral attributes and combining them The second one aims to build these classes by a global clustering on the set of labels. Then, these proposals are evaluated on different datasets of graphs and in different contexts.

The Design, Construction, and Use of a Tri-color Projection Box to be Used in the Instruction of Orthographic ProjectionHarrison, Denist D. 05 1900 (has links)
The purposes of the study were as follows: first, to study the literature in the field of teaching drafting with special reference to the use of instructional aides in presenting orthographic projection concerning the use of a projection box; second, to ascertain the value of the use of a tri-color projection box in teaching orthographic projection to an experimental group of students at the R. L. Turner High School, Carrollton, Texas; and third, to determine if an analysis of these data indicates a justification for the use of this type of an instructional aid in teaching orthographic projection.

An electron beam addressed liquid crystal light valve projectorBryan, Charles Edward January 1987 (has links)
The contents of this dissertation relate to a liquid crystal light valve which is addressed by an electron beam. The light valve has been configured with a computer aided designed optical projection system, to produce an electron beam addressed liquid crystal light valve projector. The projector is capable of turning an electrical signal into a corresponding projected picture. A minimum resolution of 33um was demonstrated in a smectic-A liquid crystal light valve and one of 40um in a dyed phase change guest-host liquid crystal light valve. The diameter of the active area of the light valve was 45mm. Crucial to the realization of the projector was the patented invention and design of an electrically highly anisotropic disc of 47mm diameter which was approximately 2mm thick. The disc, which was conducting through its thickness and insulating across its plane, formed the top interface of the liquid crystal light valve and permitted the electron beam to deposit a charge pattern which could be conveyed to the thin liquid crystal layer without loss of resolution. The disc was made using a specially constructed piece of apparatus wherein the holes in a glass capillary array were filled with a low melting point alloy. Discs were made using three different low melting point alloys and their various merits were considered. Consideration was also given to developing the deflection coils used in this projector. Computer aided design resulted in a deflection coil system capable of a resolution of over 8 x 108 pixels in a 50mm x 50mm frame at a half angular aperture of 1mrad. In order to evaluate the resolution of the light valve, a micro-computer controlled dot pattern generator was built. This was used to drive the deflection coils in such a way as to control both the dwell time and position of the electron beam spot. Lines of different spacings were written on the light valve. Electron and optical micrographs are presented to demonstrate the quality of the anisotropic disc. Photographs and optical micrographs are included to show the pictures which were obtained from the projector and also the lines written on the light valve.

January 2013 (has links)
She usually writes about everyday themes, which mostly involves reflections about human behavior. She is a well-known author, quoted in several blogs and also on social networks, which undoubtedly spread and form opinions. The books published by Medeiros are almost always on the best-seller lists and often receive indications to literary awards, which are, sometimes, received by her. These were some of the reasons which initially motivated the purpose of this research: to check what there is in her texts that attracts this range of heterogeneous readers. In order to conduct this study, concepts of the Modern Cognitive Linguistics, which study the great ability of the human brain to perform projections, were used. Projections are an ability believed to be a fundamental part of the human cognition to our survival. It is known that, due to projections, we can use literary texts not only as entertainment while reading, but also, in some situations, to educate, moralize and persuade. The corpus of this research is made of chronicles from Medeiros's last two chronicle books: "Doidas e Santas" (2008) and "Feliz por nada" (2011). By writing about everyday facts, Martha presents many reflections about life and, when expressing opinions, she uses parables, metaphors and metonymies. It was judged important to verify and understand the processes of projection and the parables used in the chronicles, intending to visualize their persuasive effects. Moreover, special attention was given to metaphors and metonymies present in the texts, which are widely used in projection, and also very often responsible for transmitting the author' intended messages. Linguistic "strategies" present in the texts, which make them popular among the readers, were also investigated. Furthermore, other mechanisms...
