Letter – human oldest way of communication in written form, known from 18th century BC in Egypt. Epistolary prose – the collection of letters and correspondence, which appeared in early 18th century (in the age of Enlightenment) is still alive till our days. The first signs of Lithuanian epistolary appeared in literature in interwar period. Much more epistolary works appeared from the end of 20th century up to the beginning of the 21st century (modernism and postmodernism.) In this writing for a Master degree three modern Lithuanian epistolary examples are being studieg: the novel Letters from Viešvilė (2001) by Leonardas Gutauskas, narrative The best metaphysical friend by Herkus Kunčius and novel And Tomorrow We’ll Have to Go On (2002) by Ugnė Barauskaitė. These examples have common features and they are: the letter, the situation between the addressee and the author, dialogue (monologue), the outlook of feelings, the subjectivity and the need of a game. The aim of the work – the research of the transformation of modern epistolary and the influence of modern poetry on epistolary prose. These issues are almost unknown in Lithuanian literary criticism. Remiantis didžiųjų filosofų: Horacijaus, Aristotelio, Spinozos, Stendhal΄io, Descartes, Platono darbais, skirtais meilės temai aptarti, yra išskiriami trys pagrindiniai meilės tipai: 1.Meilė moteriai. 2.Meilė artimui. 3.Meilė Dievui. Vyro ir moters meilę A. Vaičiulaitis vaizduoja suidealintame fone, subtiliai perteikdamas idealistinės meilės psichologiją, orientuodamasis į amžinus, pastovius dalykus. Meilė dažniausiai tampa iracionalių žmogaus prigimties galių auka. Meilė autoriui pirmiausia sąmonės aktas, tik po to fizinis – pojūtis ir prisilietimas. A.Vaičiulaičio meilės vizija išplėtė meilės suvokimo ir vaizdavimo ribas. Išanalizavus A. Vaičiulaičio pasirinktus kūrinius galima teigti, kad patriarchališkai mąstantys vyrai stengiasi primesti savo valią moterims ir spręsti jų likimus. Visos moterys nagrinėtuose kūriniuose – mylinčios, naivios, bet labai trapios ir nesugebančios kovoti už savo meilę. A. Vaičiulaitis teikia pirmenybę artimo meilei – kurios pagrindas - atjauta žmogui, įsiklausymas į jo jausmus. Meilė artimui yra aukščiausias gėrisA. Vaičiulaičio kūryboje. Dievas A. Vaičiulaičio kūryboje suvokiamas kaip empatiškai susijęs su kūrinija. A. Vaičiulaitis apibrėžia maldą ir meilę Dievui kaip vienybės simbolį, vienijantį pagrindinius nagrinėtų kūrinių veikėjus. Kūrėjo santykis su kiekvienu žmogumi yra intymus, nes meilė visuomet individualus ryšys tarp dviejų. / Antanas Vaičiulaitis (1906 – 1992) – is one of the most famous Lithuanian writers, literary critic, translator, editor who worked and created during Independence Time. In the 4th decade of the 20th century Antanas Vaičiulaitis joined the ranks of Lithuanian writers as prosaist, whose works are analysed in this work. The writer, who nowadays is called the representative of the „magic realism” created a tranquil story believing that the bond between the man and nature creates harmony in the world. Deep eduction into the human’s inner, his reverie, his poetic expression of Nature’s beauty, the lightness of the plot and naturalism – these are the basic aspects of the writer’s prose. The object of the work is the theme of love in Vaičiulaitis novel „Valentina” and in his earlier prose. The theme of love is chosen because love is the only definite answer to the problem of human’s existence. The main reason of fiction, art, religion and philosophy is to awake human’s ability to love and especially in the heart of another person. The purpose of the work is to define properly love in religious, philosophical and psychological aspects in Vaičiulaiti’s novel „Valentina” and another novels „Šiaurietė” and „Pažaislio vienuolyno legenda”.
