A Study on Controllability for Automatic Terrain Generators

Arnoldsson, Anton January 2017 (has links)
Procedural Content Generators (PCG) typically excel at generating a large amount of content in a short period of time. Whilst this is making PCG very applicable for the game industry, simplistic implementations of PCG lack in Usability whereas complex implementations of PCG lack in Controllability. The purpose of this study is therefore to deepen our understanding on the correlation between Controllability and Usability in algorithmic generators that utilizes a generic and constructive approach to generate terrain in games.Furthermore the findings in this study can be used in the field of procedural terrain generators to study deterministic generators that utilize Automatic generation, from a Usability or Controllability perspective.

LaMOSNet: Latent Mean-Opinion-Score Network for Non-intrusive Speech Quality Assessment : Deep Neural Network for MOS Prediction / LaMOSNet: Latent Mean-Opinion-Score Network för icke-intrusiv ljudkvalitetsbedömning : Djupt neuralt nätverk för MOS prediktion

Cumlin, Fredrik January 2022 (has links)
Objective non-intrusive speech quality assessment aimed to emulate and correlate with human judgement has received more attention over the years. It is a difficult problem due to three reasons: data scarcity, noisy human judgement, and a potential uneven distribution of bias of mean opinion scores (MOS). In this paper, we introduce the Latent Mean-Opinion-Score Network (LaMOSNet) that leverage on individual judge’s scores to increase the data size, and new ideas to deal with both noisy and biased labels. We introduce a methodology called Optimistic Judge Estimation as a way to reduce bias in MOS in a clear way. We also implement stochastic gradient noise and mean teacher, ideas from noisy image classification, to further deal with noisy and uneven bias distribution of labels. We achieve competitive results on VCC2018 modeling MOS, and state-of-the-art modeling only listener dependent scores.

Holistic Human-Serving Digitization of Health Care Needs Integrated Automated System-Level Assessment Tools

Welzel, Cindy, Cotte, Fabienne, Wekenborg, Magdalene, Vasey, Baptiste, McCulloch, Peter, Gilbert, Stephen 09 December 2024 (has links)
Digital health tools, platforms, and artificial intelligence– or machine learning–based clinical decision support systems are increasingly part of health delivery approaches, with an ever-greater degree of system interaction. Critical to the successful deployment of these tools is their functional integration into existing clinical routines and workflows. This depends on system interoperability and on intuitive and safe user interface design. The importance of minimizing emergent workflow stress through human factors research and purposeful design for integration cannot be overstated. Usability of tools in practice is as important as algorithm quality. Regulatory and health technology assessment frameworks recognize the importance of these factors to a certain extent, but their focus remains mainly on the individual product rather than on emergent system and workflow effects. The measurement of performance and user experience has so far been performed in ad hoc, nonstandardized ways by individual actors using their own evaluation approaches. We propose that a standard framework for system-level and holistic evaluation could be built into interacting digital systems to enable systematic and standardized system-wide, multiproduct, postmarket surveillance and technology assessment. Such a system could be made available to developers through regulatory or assessment bodies as an application programming interface and could be a requirement for digital tool certification, just as interoperability is. This would enable health systems and tool developers to collect system-level data directly from real device use cases, enabling the controlled and safe delivery of systematic quality assessment or improvement studies suitable for the complexity and interconnectedness of clinical workflows using developing digital health technologies.

DeePMOS: Deep Posterior Mean-Opinion-Score for Speech Quality Assessment : DNN-based MOS Prediction Using a Posterior / DeePMOS: Deep Posterior Mean-Opinion-Score för talkvalitetsbedömning : DNN-baserad MOS-prediktion med hjälp av en posterior

Liang, Xinyu January 2024 (has links)
This project focuses on deep neural network (DNN)-based non-intrusive speech quality assessment, specifically addressing the challenge of predicting mean-opinion-score (MOS) with interpretable posterior distributions. The conventional approach of providing a single point estimate for MOS lacks interpretability and doesn't capture the uncertainty inherent in subjective assessments. This thesis introduces DeePMOS, a novel framework capable of producing MOS predictions in the form of posterior distributions, offering a more nuanced and understandable representation of speech quality. DeePMOS adopts a CNN-BLSTM architecture with multiple prediction heads to model Gaussian and Beta posterior distributions. For robust training, we use a combination of maximum-likelihood learning, stochastic gradient noise, and a student-teacher learning setup to handle limited and noisy training data. Results showcase DeePMOS's competitive performance, particularly with DeePMOS-B achieving state-of-the-art utterance-level performance. The significance lies in providing accurate predictions along with a measure of confidence, enhancing transparency and reliability. This opens avenues for application in domains such as telecommunications and audio-processing systems. Future work could explore additional posterior distributions, evaluate the model on high-quality datasets, and consider incorporating listener-dependent scores.

Sipos, Gyopar 24 April 2003 (has links)
Conditions for the marketing of fishery products are strictly regulated. In Germany, the fish hygiene regulations (§§ 4(1) and 6) demand the gutting of all fishes immediately after the catch. This regulation is more restrictive than the corresponding EU-legislation (RL 91/493/EWG). But several German counties interprete the term "immediately" differently, and most other EU-countries have more permitting regulations, thus creating legal ambiguities in the marketing of whole fishes. Unlike the situation in seafish there are only few surveys in fresh water fish comparing possible sensoric and hygienic effects of gutted and ungutted storage. The aim of this study therefore was to examine health and hygiene related as well as qualitative reasons for or against an immediate gutting of freshwater fish, using aquaculture rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and pike-perch (Sander lucioperca) from the Baltic Sea as model fish species. The bacterial load in several tissues of gutted and ungutted fish, spoilage organisms as well as potentially pathogenic bacteria (Vibrio spp., Aeromonas spp., Clostridium spp., Salmonella spp., Listeria spp), were determined repeatedly throughout the storage period and statistically compared. Furthermore, species-specific grading schemes for the whole fish as well as for steamed fillets were developed that allowed the assessment of spoilage and of the sensoric characteristics of gutted and ungutted fishes. In pike-perch, muscle tissue and guts were examined for pathogenic nematode larvae and the fillet content of total volatile basic nitrogen was determined. The results of this study lead to the conclusion that ungutted fish, as long as optimal storage conditions are guaranteed, bear no special hygienic risks and keep a quality comparable to gutted fish for at least some days before autolytic processes in the body cavity compromise the quality of the whole fish. The length of this storage period depends mainly on the fish species and the filling of the digestive tract. From a microbiological point of view early gutting is not advisable because the gutting process itself results in a higher bacterial contamination of the body cavity than that found in fish stored ungutted. Therefore, a later gutting may lead to a faster loss of quality in whole fish but a higher hygienic risk for the consumer, even in connection with bacteria pathogenic for humans, can not be stated.

Quality assessment for hyperspectral airborne systems / from data up to land-products

Kerr, Grégoire Henry Gérard 06 August 2015 (has links)
This work proposes a methodology for performing a quality assessment on the complete airborne hyperspectral system, thus ranging from data acquisition up to land-product generation. It is compliant with other quality assessment initiatives, such as the European Facility for Airborne Research (EUFAR), the Quality Assessment for Earth observation work-group (QA4EO) and the Joint Committee for Guides in Metrology (JCGM). These are extended into a generic framework allowing for a flexible but reliable quality assessment strategy. Since airborne hyperspectral imagery is usually acquired in several partially overlapping flight-lines, it is proposed to use this information redundancy to retrieve the imagery''s internal variability. The underlying method is generic and can be easily introduced in the German Aerospace Center DLR''s hyperspectral processing chain. The comparison of two overlapping flight-lines is not straightforward, should it only be because the presence of geo-location errors present in the data. A first step consists in retrieving the relative variability of the pixel''s geo-locations, hence providing pairs of pixels imaging the same areas. Subsequently, these pairs of pixels are used to obtain quality indicators accounting for the reproducibility of mapping-products, thus extending the EUFAR''s quality layers up to land-products. The third stage of the analysis consists of using these reliability results to improve the mapping-products: it is proposed to maximise the reliability over the mapping-methods'' parameters. Finally, the repeatability assessment is back propagated to the hyperspectral data itself. As a result, an estimator of the reflectance variability (including model-, and scene-induced uncertainties) is proposed by means of a blind-deconvolution approach. Altogether, this complements and extends the EUFAR quality layers with estimates of the data and products repeatability while providing confidence intervals as recommended by JCGM and QA4EO.

Investigating translation competence: a case study of undergraduates at Eduardo Mondlane University

Magaia, Armando Adriano 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / Undergraduate students at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) experience great difficulty in developing their translation competence during their training period. On the one hand, they show many signs of poor quality during their training when they accomplish practical translation assignments on and off-campus. On the other hand, the quality of the final work submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Bachelor Honours Degree (Licenciatura) suggests that most students fail to go beyond the minimum standards with regard to translation competence. Yet, comprehensive research aimed at understanding factors hindering translation competence at the UEM has been scanty. Besides, the few studies available have some significant lacunae, for they focus on Portuguese language development; are limited to error analysis, and often ignore students‟ perspectives. Consequently, the problem of finding a balanced approach to developing students‟ translation competence has remained unaddressed. Therefore, this study has been conducted with the purpose of investigating the translation competence of the UEM undergraduates in order to establish the major obstacles to their translation competence development, and consequently come up with suggestions for improving the current translator-training degree programme. The study design uses qualitative methods translated into a case study approach. First, questionnaire data is analysed to gain lecturers‟ and students‟ perspectives on translation competence at the UEM. Second, a students‟ error typology is developed following a macro- and micro-textual analysis of their translations. The study concludes that substandard bilingual skills, compounded by curricular, attitudinal/motivational, pedagogical and infrastructural/instrumental factors, negatively impact the students‟ development of translation competence at the UEM and that addressing these may pave the way towards improving the current translation-training programme. / Linguistics and Modern Languages / M.A. (Linguistics)

The fast queue service point : the analysis of the quality of care for primary health care users in eThekwini district, KwaZulu-Natal

Sokhela, Dudu Gloria January 2016 (has links)
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctoral Degree in Nursing, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2016. / This mixed methods study aimed to assess the functioning and processes of the Fast Queue Service Point in order to analyse the quality of care rendered in primary health care (PHC) facilities in the eThekwini district of the KwaZulu Natal Province in South Africa. The Fast Queue Service Point provides service in PHC facilities for health care users requiring short consultations. Congestion of PHC facilities is a result of increased access to PHC services with the introduction of free PHC services. This congestion was aggravated by the decentralization of services from hospitals to PHC level such as the introduction on Nurse Initiated Management of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (NIMART). In 2010, the National Core Standards (NCS) for health establishments were formulated further to the PHC Service package, to address issues of quality. An explanatory sequential mixed methods study design was used and data collection was conducted in two phases; the quantitative data collection phase consisting of two subsets of observations namely; the retrospective record review and structured observations of the Fast Queue Service Point process. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 was used to analyse data. During the second phase semi-structured interviews were conducted with PHC staff members to describe their experiences of the Fast Queue Service Point and to clarify issues from the quantitative phase. Although Fast Queue Service users received sufficient care, there were important care assessments that had been inadequately performed or omitted. These included discussing side effects of medications and or immunizations and management thereof. Childrens' weights were not interpreted, an important aspect for children under five years of age. There was also lack of supportive supervision coupled with shortage of resources and too many time-consuming written records that were required to compile accurate statistics. Retraining and in-servicing of health personnel and making resources available, would assist in strengthening patient assessment, management and recording thereof. While clinic managers require to offer supportive supervision to health care providers, provision of lower categories of staff would be beneficial in supporting PNs and ENs so that they have time to compile records for statistics purposes, which were found to be taking up the bulk of their time. The framework for continuous quality improvement in implementing a Fast Queue Service in PHC settings was developed based on the findings of the study / D
