Libertate opus est. escravidão, manumissão e cidadania à época de Nero (54-68 d.C.) / Libertate opus est:. slavery, Manumission and citizenship during the Principate of Nero (54-68 d.C.)

Fabio Duarte Joly 06 October 2006 (has links)
This work is a study about slavery during the Principate of Nero (AD 54-68), focusing upon the connections between politics and master-slave relationships in imperial Rome. The Early Roman Empire is not thus considered as a static period, but characterized by political tensions concerning the social position of slaves and freedmen. From a structural point of view, the work is divided in two main parts: 1) exposition and critique of the concept of slave society as applied to the Roman Empire, 2) analysis of the contemporary and later literary sources relating to the Principate of Nero. The ultimate objective is to point out the circumscription of a concept of slave society to the city of Rome as well as highlight manumission as its main component.

Přístupy ke vzdělávání romských žáků / Attitudes to the Education of the Romany Students

Vernerová, Jitka January 2016 (has links)
The topic of this thesis, "Attitudes to the Education of the Romany students", is looking at instruction of Roma people as a tool for crime prevention related to this ethnic group. The purpose of this text is to assess the practical impacts of the implementation of the Czech government's "Strategy for Crime Prevention", based on personal experience and involvement in a project related to it. A specific project, in a selected area, is used as an example of how to implement projects of this kind. The following text is split into two parts. The first part is describing the history of Roma people in the Czech lands, and addresses the relationship between this ethnic group and crime. The second part is focused on the project related to the Strategy for Crime Prevention. The Strategy is first theoretically introduced and then described in practical terms in the given locality.

Setting the Tone: A Newspaper Analysis on Canada’s Decision to Impose a Visa Requirement on the Czech Republic

Adatia, Rishma January 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines Canada’s imposition of a visa requirement on visitors from the Czech Republic. By analyzing articles in three major Canadian newspapers, I conduct an Althusserian (theory that “culture ventures” are part of the Ideological State Apparatus), analysis. The thesis demonstrates that a dominant ideological viewpoint – a pro-capitalist ideology supported by a racist ideology – was evident in the coverage in all three newspapers. Additionally, this thesis addresses the presence of more ‘even-handed’ discussions of the conditions of the Roma, including experiences of racism and discrimination in the Czech Republic. I conclude that the newspapers present ideological views, with occasional exceptions.

Välkommen till Vischan! : Gotlandsgården i Roma / The Rural Revenge : In an "ebb and flow" landscape

Britse, Katarina January 2014 (has links)
Gotland is famous around the world for its unique nature. The agriculture here has always been an important source of income and part of the identity of the island. But today the profession has low status and hard to survive. How can the interest for farming be increased? Gotlandsgården is an investigation about how the agriculture could develop. It strives to re-establish the status of the farmer profession and to become the node for the Gotland's farmers, inhabitants and the tourists.  an investigation about how the agriculture could develop.

Nácarová, Barbora January 2010 (has links)
We are bound to live with the Roma, but how… The aim of this study is to create a new concept of the environment as an alternative to the current general plan. In the latest urban plan of the town of Banska Stiavnica, the district of Sobov is designed as a recreation zone. However the plan doesn’t tackle the issue of the ethnical minority. This scheme is based on the simple principle of the interconnection of two key topics: the sustainable development in the prevention of social exclusion and the preservation of the environment. On the one hand, it resumes the continuity of resettlement of Sobov, creating a community feeling and the esteem of one´s home in the inhabitants, on the other hand it provides basic information about the district, life of the Roma and their work to the visitors and also offers an appropriate recreation facility. The majority will have to live side by side with the minority and this provides a chance for better housing to the socially challenged citizens in exchange for their participation on the development. The technical solution considers low-cost tower blocks emphasizing the lifestyle and problems of the Roma people using traditional materials, technologies, unqualified labour and also the already existing boreholes to obtain energy with thermal pumps.

Analysis of Composite Helmet Impact by the Finite Element Method

Callahan, Joseph E. 30 November 2011 (has links)
We analyze by the finite element method transient deformations of a helmet mounted on a Roma Plastilina #1 clay-filled rigid and stationary headform. The helmet is made of a unidirectional fiber reinforced composite that is modeled as a linear elastic orthotropic material. Hashin's criteria are used to simulate the fiber and the matrix failure. The clay (impactor) is modeled as an elastic-plastic (elastic-viscoplastic), isotropic and homogeneous material. The problem is numerically solved by using the commercial software, ABAQUS, with built-in algorithms to simulate contact between distinct materials (e.g., the clay, the helmet, and the penetrator), and to delete elements whose material has failed. We have verified capabilities of the software for analyzing the penetration problems by solving a few impact problems that have been previously studied by others either experimentally or numerically. The effect of the number of layers in the helmet and the crater formed in the clay due to the impact of the projectile on the helmet has been delineated. It is believed that the crater size in the clay will provide useful information regarding the head injury trauma caused by the impact of a projectile on the helmet. / Master of Science

“Fight is an inside path” : A minor field study of how members of Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order perceive religious freedom in Mexico

Forsvik, Sandra January 2015 (has links)
The interests for academic studies of contemporary Sufism and Sufism in non-Islamic countries have become more popular, but little has been done in Latin America. The studies of Islam in this continent are limited and studies on Sufism in Mexico seem to be an unexplored area. As a student of journalism target religion I see this as an important topic that can generate new information for the study of Sufism. This thesis is therefore aimed to describe the group of Sufis I have chosen to study, Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico, linked to Human Rights in form of how members of the Sufi order perceive Religious Freedom in Mexico. A minor field study was carried out in Colonia Roma, Mexico City during October and November 2014. The place was chosen because this is the place where Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order exists in Mexico. The investigation is qualitative and based on an ethnographic study of eight weeks and semi structured interviews with three dervishes of the Sufi order, where two of them are men and one is a woman. Based on my purpose I have formulated the following questions: How do members of Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico define Sufism? And how do they describe and practice their religious belief? How do members of Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico express the situation to belong to a religious minority in the country? And how do the members perceive religious freedom in Mexico? The question of my research is therefore: Do members of Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico express that they feel free to practice their religion? And if so, how? The results of the study shows that all the informants express that they feel free to practice their religion as a Sufi. One of the respondents that also belongs to the Conchero tradition, which is a group of the indigenous people of Mexico, says that he has experienced discrimination from both the government and other citizens due to that he belong to the Conchero tradition. Information from the respondents’ shows that Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico is such a small community that people does not consider them. This might be one of the reasons why members of Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order in Mexico have the freedom to practice their religion. / Minor Field Studies (MFS)
