The nature of human sexuality is socio-historical as any other human activity that we have and accumulated knowledge for the humanity along the history. In spite of that, the human sexuality is still today, just treated in its biological dimension and/or loaded of moralism, tends of the dogmas great religious interference. Nowadays with the changes that are happening in the capitalist economical system, with the globalization of the economy and the implantation in all world of the neoliberal politics, the linked problems to the human sexuality, have intensified are causing suffering in those that possess inconsistent formation concerning the subject. Among the adolescents it has been increasing the occurrence of DST's, of AIDS and of not planned pregnancy. Due to that situation, it became a consensus between parents and educators that, the school is a space that can offer formation regarding the sexuality theme. Seeking to know if the school is occupying that space and how this institution is making it, this research looked for through interviews structured with eight teachers of state public school of fundamental and medium level, located in outlying neighborhood in the municipal district of Bauru/SP, to know: the teacher's conceptions about sexuality; if they approach the subject indeed and how they are making it, in their classes; if the use of the Traverse Theme of Sexual Orientation happens and how they make it; Investigate if with the publication of the Parameters National Curriculares (PCN) and Traverse Theme in Sexual Orientation, the teacher's work in classroom changed, and to evidence the teachers' main difficulties in the approach of sexual themes. The results that we obtained, in synthesis, were that: as for the conception about sexuality, most of the teachers have difficulties in talking about the theme and the little that they speak is loaded of shame and moralism.

This research named Sexuality...Teacher that silences not always consents, was developed by Katia Krepsky Valladares, during her Master Science in Education, at Universidade Federal Fluminense, inserted in the sphere of the Language, Subjectivity and Culture Field. Its a qualitative research, which purpose is to investigate the achievement (or not) of what establish the National Curricular Parameters as for Sexual Orientation and the transversal approach in the schools. Our main goal was to evaluate if and how the sexuality is being approached in public schools at Região Oceânica in Niterói (RJ). Its important to understand what perception the students and teachers have in the current situation of Sexual Orientation in the investigated schools. We intend to know how
the school, represented by the teachers, have dealed with the human sexuality, and how the
adolescents of the scholar population have assimilated those informations. Sexuality is an
extremely important aspect in the global formation of the people, it cant be ignored or
denied. In the case of the adolescents, the sexual experiences are hardly planned. Usually
they happen without some basic cares. So we need a little more acknowledge about the mechanisms created by the school to deal with the adolescents sexuality. We hope, here, to contribute to this achievement...

January 2008 (has links)
Orientador: Paulo Rennes Marçal Ribeiro / Banca: Ana Cláudia Bortolozzi Maia / Banca: Sonia Maria Martins de Melo / Banca: Sueli Aparecida Itman Monteiro / Banca: Luci Regina Muzzeti / Resumo: Seria a sexualidade algo ainda escondido? / Abstract: Is sexuality still something hidden? Certainly, yes. In every place, in every person and in every daily situation? We cannot claim that, but what we want to show with this work is, how sexual attitudes and behaviours of the people in nowadays are represented in words or in daily spoken synonyms and also in the school system. We collected in need for a qualified research a total of 1.308 words that represent names for the male and female genitalia: penis and vulva and for some sexual practices, masturbation and sexual relation (ships). A removed dynamic of the material of SEBRAE has been applied in six brasilian states, including these four regions: the south, southeast, the center of the west and the northeast, in courses that deal with the formation in Sexual Orientation in school, with the participation of 4.916 persons, fathers/mothers and teacher; their age was between eighteen and sixty-eight years. The noticed words have been classified in various groups and divided in different categories, based on the analyse of the contents of Bardin (1977). We discussed the importance and/or the necessity of the utilisation of so much synonyms that relate to sex/sexuality. After the analyse of the words, we found out that there is still a difficulty that people show when it comes to speaking out words that relate to sexual subjects; by that their resistance and the lack of information are transfered to the students, and this fact is denoting a sexual repression and a consistently necessity of Sexual Orientation, in schools, envolving the whole educating community, to know: fathers/mothers, teacher, the pedagogical and administrative groups, employees and students. / Doutor

This study aims at investigating how Health at Schools project, which is proposed by Caxias` Education Secretariat, in association with Health Secretariat, was accepted and developed by a government school. It attempted to understand how the school plans and develops its sexual educational program and if it offers the students a range of possibilities so that they can construct and experience automously their sexual identities. The data were collected by documental analysis, interviews, questionaries, observation and focus groups. It verified opinions of the three planners, three workshop leaders, two educational counselors, one school director, eight teachers and six students. The analysis of the results allowed us to identify a concern in developing a sexual orientation program focusing on human rights, respect towards the others and culture emphasizing self care, health care and disease prevention, as well as, multiple sexuality possibilities among youth. This research was mainly based on Stuart Halls identity conception, Luiz Paulo Moita Lopes` and Tomaz Tadeu da Silva`s socioconstructivist identity approach, Deborah Britzman`s,Guacira Louro`s, Jeffrey Weeks`and Judith Butler`s sexualities conceptions, as well as Elizabeth Badinter`s and Robert Connell`s ways of thinking masculinities. The study concluded that both discourse and practice emphasized during the development of the Health at Schools project and Sexual Orientation Program, besides aiming at health quality, also meant to promote sexual identity construction and sexual experiences.

Do People Perceive Juvenile Sex Offenders Who Are Gay and Christian as Hypocrites? Social Identity Theory and Dual Identity DefendantsJanuary 2014 (has links)
abstract: This study investigates the presence of a dual identity defendant, and how sharing an in-group can create a judgment bias. A sample of 256 participants was used to test whether there was a relationship between judgment punitiveness, perceptions of shared identity, hypocrisy and the social identities (religion and sexual orientation) of the participants and a defendant charges with a sexual offence. Results suggest that Christian participants selected more punitive outcomes for the defendant compared to non-Christian participants. Further, participants were more punitive when the defendant was gay compared to when the defendant was heterosexual. Also, when the defendant was straight there was a stronger feeling of similarity between the participants and defendant compared to when the defendant was gay, and non-Christian participants had a stronger feeling of closeness to the defendant compared to Christian participants. There was a significant interaction found, suggesting that when the defendant was Christian and gay he was seen as more hypocritical compared to when he was Christian and straight; there was no interaction when the defendant was not Christian. These findings should aid in future research and a better understanding of how dual identity defendants are perceived in the courtroom. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Psychology 2014

Marriage (In)equality: Does the Sexual Orientation Wage Gap Persist Across Marital Status?Schneebaum, Alyssa, Schubert, Nina 12 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Since the first empirical paper on the topic more than two decades ago (Badgett, 1995), the common story in the literature on wages and sexual orientation has been that gay men face a wage penalty compared to heterosexual men while lesbians are paid the same as or more than heterosexual women. However, none of the papers in the literature have thoroughly addressed the role of marital status in these wage gaps. Using data from the 2013-2015 American Community Survey and OLS as well as selection-corrected estimators, we show that the gay male penalty exists only for the group of married men, while the lesbian wage premium persists across marital status but is smaller for married lesbians. / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

Attitudes towards bisexual men and women: the relationship between respondents' attitudes and their sexual orientationArndt, Marlene 19 April 2010 (has links)
D.Litt. et Phil. / This study posits that although the South African government has shown an unprecedented commitment to acknowledging and upholding the human rights of bisexual men and women, negative attitudes exist towards bisexual men and women. A mixed method research study was conducted, consisting of three phases. In the first phase of the study (quantitative), a biographical questionnaire, the Attitudes Regarding Bisexuality Scale (ARBS-FM) (Mohr & Rochlen, 1999), and the Sexual orientation scale of Berkey, Perelman-Hall and Kurdek (1990) was utilised. A total of undergraduate 1 459 students were selected by convenience sampling. However, the reliability of the scales of the ARBS-FM in this student sample appeared to be significantly lower than desired. Therefore, the researcher organised an expert group (N = 11). This second section of the study served as expert advice from cultural interpreters that brought about adaptation of the measures (qualitative) and was complementary to the quantitative study. The researcher endeavoured to seek elaboration and clarification of the results from one method with the results of the other method. In the third phase of the study a revised ARBS (consisting of two scales measuring attitudes towards bisexual men and women separately), a biographical questionnaire, and the sexual orientation scale was administered. A total of 578 undergraduate students were selected by convenience sampling. The psychometric properties of the revised ARBS instruments were investigated by means of confirmatory factor analyses. Results indicated a two-factor structure (Tolerance and Stability) for both of the ARBS-F and ARBS-M. Tucker’s coefficients of congruence showed that attitudes towards bisexual men and women may be measured by an integrated scale. Differential item functioning (DIF) and differential test functioning (DTF) analyses suggested the removal of some items that favoured either the black or the white group. The revised ARBS-F and revised ARBS-M were used for testing the stated hypotheses. The results indicated that participants’ attitudes towards bisexual men and women vary on a range of factors such as gender, religiosity, contact, and the sexual orientation of the participants. Both heterosexual and homosexual students have more negative attitudes towards bisexual men and women than bisexual students. This double discrimination by heterosexuals and the gay and lesbian community is seldom recognised or acknowledged. Therefore, the current research findings elucidate that this oppression is real, and may have negative psychological effects on bisexual men and women. The results are discussed against the background of previous studies, and suggestions for future research are made. Key words: bisexual men, bisexual women, biphobia, homophobia, heterosexism, sexual orientation, university community, survey, attitudes, students.

Significant others’ experiences of the coming out process of a lesbian individualLotter, Riandie 19 December 2011 (has links)
This study aims to explore and describe the experiences of significant others during the coming out process of two lesbian individuals. The study gathered more detail regarding how various individuals experience the coming out process in the hope of contributing to the theoretical base of literature concerning lesbian studies in South Africa. The literature review provides a survey of the coming out process as well as a discussion regarding significant others (family and friends). Some factors and experiences involved in the coming out process are also discussed. The qualitative case study is approached from the interpretive paradigm and systems theory was utilised as a theoretical framework throughout the study. Data was generated primarily through unstructured interactive/in-depth interviews and secondarily through stories, field texts, photographs and a research diary. Six individuals participated in the research study, the two lesbian individuals and four significant others as identified by them - two mothers, a father and a close friend. The data analysis led to both commonalities in experiences and unique experiences identified by participants. The results of the study indicated that some form of suspicion or awareness was present in the significant others before the act of disclosure; emotional reactions from involved participants can be placed in a continuum ranging from positive to negative and the act of disclosure was viewed and experienced as both a crisis and as progressive by different participants. Various factors could influence the experience of the coming out process for significant others as well as the reactions to the act of disclosure. However more research is needed to investigate what these factors might be. Participants also mentioned various stages towards acceptance (individuals fall in a continuum and can move forward and backward). Both common and unique experiences were present and can assist others in understanding the coming out process from different perspectives. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Educational Psychology / unrestricted

Sexuell läggning och suicidala tankar hos ungdomarLarsson, Julia, Nilsson, Angelica January 2017 (has links)
Background: Mental illness is an increasing problem among adolescents. Suicidal ideation is an early stage of suicide and different risk factors can increase the risk of suicidal ideations. All over the world suicide is the third most common cause of death among adolescents aged 15 – 19 years. Suicide is a care-damage if the health service had the possibility to prevent a person to commit suicide with adequate interventions. Therefore, the health service is required to work preventive towards suicide. Suicide attempts is reported in higher rate among adolescents who are lesbian, gay or bisexual (LGB). Some patients perceived that health personnel sometimes saw homosexuality as something abnormal. Aim: The aim of the study was to describe the presence of suicidal ideations based on sexual orientation among adolescents. Method: The literature study includes ten articles. The quality of the articles was analyzed. Then the articles similarities and differences were described. Results: Sexual orientation has an impact on suicidal ideations. Adolescents who were defined as LGB, sexual minority or had sexual contact with a person of the same gender reported suicidal ideation in a higher rate than heterosexual adolescents. Girls reported suicidal ideations in a higher rate than boys, regardless of sexual orientation. Conclusion: Studies shows that there is a correlation between sexual orientation and suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation is a severe problem that can’t be disregard, and neither the correlation between sexual orientation and suicidal ideation. Therefore, research need to be done, both in Sweden and worldwide.
