The role and impact of a stress intervention programme for primary school principalsParsotam, Anila Manaklal 02 1900 (has links)
Change in any form can become painful if individuals are not equipped with
the necessary coping mechanisms. The transformation in the educational
arena over the last few years has resulted in increased stress levels for
school principals.
This study investigates the role and impact of a stress intervention
programme, the Art of Living workshop, using controlled breathing techniques,
on the functioning of primary school principals in the Phoenix Circuit, Durban.
A combined quantitative and qualitative research approach employing
structured questionnaires and semi-structured individual interviews was used
to compare the principals’ stress levels before and after the stress intervention
programme.
The findings revealed that the intervention programme was successful in
reducing principals’ stress levels. A lack of resources, increased workloads,
learner discipline, educator attitudes, indifferent parents and resolving
conflicts created stress for principals.
Benefits of the Art of Living workshop included the ability to remain calm and
relaxed; and improved sleep patterns, increased energy levels and improved
human relation skills. / Educational Leadership and Management / MED (ED MNG)

Invloed van stres op die akademiese prestasie van die volwassene-leerder : 'n orto-andragogiese studie / The influence of stress on the academic performance of the adult learner : an ortho-andragogic studyLotz, Jan Willem 09 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and English / Text in Afrikaans / Stress is a complex and multi-dimensional phenomenon of which topical significance is
given at present. The aim of this study was to focus on the influence of stress on
academic performance of the young student. First, a comprehensive study of the
literature was undertaken in order to arrive at an understanding of the foregoing. An
overview of the nature, etiology and manifestation of stress, as well as how it is coped
with, is offered. Special attention was devoted to factors that cause the young student
to experience distress.
In addition the way in which the personal actualisation of the young student occurs, was
researched. From the research it appeared that owing to, among other things, the
experiencing of distress and inadequate personal actualisation, some young students are
in a situation involving need, which requires urgent and essential ortho-andragogic
guidance. Consequently, the ortho-andragogic responsibility of rendering aid within the
context of tertiary training was addressed.
Lastly, an empirical investigation of the correlation between distress and particularised
academically oriented issues was launched. Based on the findings and conclusions
arrived at during the course of the study and investigations, recommendations have been
made for future research.
distresbelewing by die jeugdige student gee.
gekom is, ls aanbevelings vir toekomstige navorsing gedoen. / Teacher Education / D. Ed. (Orthopedagogics)

Stresbelewing en -hantering by onderwysersVan den Berg, Reinette 30 November 2003 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This study ascertains the extent of the experience of stress and the nature of stress management by educators. The literature showed that stress is defined from various theoretical perspectives; various approaches to stress management exist; and educators manage stress in various ways.
This study defines stress from a cognitive-transactional perspective. A qualitative research method was used, descriptive data were generated by focus groups and inductively analysed. The results show that educators experienced stress ( much as seen in the literature) due to organisational, management and personal factors.
According to this research, educators experience stress on the physical, emotional, social and intellectual levels. Educators' efforts to deal with stress reflect direct techniques such as seeking personal support and using confrontational techniques, as well as indirect techniques which encompass intellectual and physical techniques. Finally the development of a stress management program for educators is recommended. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Guidance and Counselling)

Bestuur van gesondheidskwessies by `n welsynsorganisasie met spesifieke verwysing na die hantering van stres / The management of health issues at a welfare organisation with specific reference to dealing with stressGouws, Yolanda 30 November 2006 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The purpose of the research was to determine the extent to which health issues, and particularly work stress, are managed at a welfare organization. The group investigated consisted of 49 registered social workers employed at nine welfare organizations in the Nelson Mandela Metropole. The research process was directed by quantitative research, the research information being obtained through a literature study and structured questionnaire.
A number of health issues were identified in the workplace. Based on the empirical investigation it was concluded that health management does not enjoy a high priority at welfare organisations. The health issues that have the most impact on the respondents' work ability are work stress and burnout. It is recommended that organisations compile a holistic policy for health management. There is a need for implementation of employee assistance and wellness programmes for health management. Such programmes promote the productivity and general wellbeing of social workers.
gesondheidskwessies, in die besonder werkstres, by 'n welsynsorganisasie
bestuur word. Die ondersoekgroep het bestaan uit 49 geregistreerde
maatskaplike werkers werksaam by nege welsynsorganisasies in die Nelson
Mandela Metropool.
gesondheidbestuur nie 'n hoe prioriteit geniet by welsynsorgnisasies nie.
Social Work / M.Diac. (Social Work)
