Schiller, Fredrik, Svendler, Simon January 2017 (has links)
The study investigates what has impacted the environmental dedication of environmental activists and how that knowledge can be used to increase the environmental engagement in society. Four environmentalists with different backgrounds participated in qualitative interviews which were subsequently encoded in themes. The interviews were analyzed in relation to theories within, among others, environmental psychology. The results shows four main themes which were impact of nature, social impact, the impact of education and the individual's responsibility in society, that had a decisive impact on the environmental activists commitment. In order to increase environmental engagement in society, nature contact should take place in an educational context that emphasizes understanding of being part of nature, based on biospheric values.
