Sätesförlossningar : Handläggning och utfall hos mödrar och barn vid vaginal förlossning och kejsarsnitt

Grälls, Jenny January 2013 (has links)
Background: The incidence of caesarean section for breech presentation has reached approximately 90 % in Sweden. In many of these cases, by means of specific selection criteria, it would be as safe to plan for vaginal breech delivery.   Aim: The objective of this study was to investigate differences in management and to compare maternal and fetal outcomes according to delivery mode of breech presentation; vaginal vs. caesarian section. The study included breech presentation in full term singleton pregnancies at the UppsalaUniversityHospital, Uppsala, Sweden (UAS).   Method: The study was based on medical record data with a retrospective, descriptive, comparative design with quantitative approach. The method for data collection was a manual review of patient records using a structured questionnaire.   Results: Of the women with children in breech presentation during the period studied, 11 % gave birth vaginally. Mother's wish was the most common cause of caesarean section. The group with caesarean section included more first-time mothers, longer length of stay at the hospital, increased bleeding and need for pain medication, separation from the child, later lactation and earlier introduction of formula. Vaginally delivered mothers had increased incidence of straight urine catheterization postpartum and of infants with lower Apgar scores.   Conclusion: This study does not support the suggestion that it would be safer to give birth by caesarean section for breech presentation in cases where the woman at full term meets strict selection criteria. Instead of applying medical criteria, the decision regarding mode of delivery was more often left up to the mother.

Development of a Studio Art Curriculum for the Concentration Section of the Advanced Placement Drawing Portfolio

Lovell, Bonnie R 04 December 2006 (has links)
This thesis presents an Advanced Placement curriculum for the concentration section of the Drawing Portfolio. It is intended as a teaching tool to encourage and develop creative strategies related to idea generation and refinement based on creative problem solving, which is essential to the development of an effective concentration. One of the most difficult problems faced by Advanced Placement Studio Art students is idea generation for the artwork related to a central topic for the concentration section of their portfolios. This curriculum introduces lessons based on artist research, brainstorming, synectics, and SCAMPER techniques designed to foster creative idea generation for artwork development. It also gives students a tool with which to analyze the ideas generated based on specific criteria necessary to the concentration. This curriculum specifically encourages the creative process in students and provides teachers with a foundation with which to begin a unique and highly personal journey by the individual student.

The discord between policy and practice: defence lawyers’ use of section 718.2 (e) and Gladue

McDonald, Rana 13 September 2008 (has links)
This study explores the differences (and similarities) between sentencing reform and the legal practices of criminal defence lawyers. This research specifically focuses on Section 718.2 (e) of the Criminal Code, which is aimed at reducing the use of imprisonment for Aboriginal offenders and the application of the section in the Supreme Court’s 1999 decision R .v. Gladue. It investigates whether or not the section and/or Gladue has affected the legal practices of criminal defence lawyers and if so, how. The practice of lawyers, in this study, is conceptualized as structured action. The agency of lawyers is thus constrained and enabled by both macro and micro processes. These include traditional legal ideology, managerial/organizational ideology, presuppositions surrounding Aboriginality as well as the broader socio-political context of neo-liberalism and neo-conservativism. How the practices of defence lawyers either reflect or contradict the section and Gladue is examined through the oral narratives of lawyers—obtained through in-depth semi-structured interviews with twelve defence lawyers. The findings of this analysis show that the vast majority of lawyers were not integrating the section or Gladue in their defence strategies. This suggests that efforts to remedy the issue of Aboriginal over-incarceration need to be aware of the complexity of criminal justice processes, the agency of lawyers and the broader social and political context.

Global sensitivity analysis of reactor parameters / Bolade Adewale Adetula

Adetula, Bolade Adewale January 2011 (has links)
Calculations of reactor parameters of interest (such as neutron multiplication factors, decay heat, reaction rates, etc.), are often based on models which are dependent on groupwise neutron cross sections. The uncertainties associated with these neutron cross sections are propagated to the final result of the calculated reactor parameters. There is a need to characterize this uncertainty and to be able to apportion the uncertainty in a calculated reactor parameter to the different sources of uncertainty in the groupwise neutron cross sections, this procedure is known as sensitivity analysis. The focus of this study is the application of a modified global sensitivity analysis technique to calculations of reactor parameters that are dependent on groupwise neutron cross–sections. Sensitivity analysis can help in identifying the important neutron cross sections for a particular model, and also helps in establishing best–estimate optimized nuclear reactor physics models with reduced uncertainties. In this study, our approach to sensitivity analysis will be similar to the variance–based global sensitivity analysis technique, which is robust, has a wide range of applicability and provides accurate sensitivity information for most models. However, this technique requires input variables to be mutually independent. A modification to this technique, that allows one to deal with input variables that are block–wise correlated and normally distributed, is presented. The implementation of the modified technique involves the calculation of multi–dimensional integrals, which can be prohibitively expensive to compute. Numerical techniques specifically suited to the evaluation of multidimensional integrals namely Monte Carlo, quasi–Monte Carlo and sparse grids methods are used, and their efficiency is compared. The modified technique is illustrated and tested on a two–group cross–section dependent problem. In all the cases considered, the results obtained with sparse grids achieved much better accuracy, while using a significantly smaller number of samples. / Thesis (M.Sc. A critical analysis of the application of S24G provisions of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) : the Gauteng Province experience / Léa Maria Freda September

September, Léa Maria Freda January 2012 (has links)
Together with an internationally praised Constitution, South Africa can pride itself in having one of the best sets of environmental laws in the world, and since EIAs have become mandatory for projects that negatively affect the environment, our track record with respect to environmental protection has substantially improved from the Apartheid days. But as the integrated and proactive approach to environmental management has seemingly been established, a new provision was introduced: Section 24G of NEMA (“Rectification of unlawful commencement of activity”), allowing for retrospective authorisation of unlawful activities (i.e. activities identified in terms of S24 of NEMA). Six years after the introduction of the S24G rectification provision in NEMA, its ability to bring about increased levels of compliance is being questioned. The findings of this research show that in Gauteng S24G has had an ambivalent effect on compliance: while on one hand it has artificially increased compliance by rendering illegal activities legal, on the other, it has seriously undermined the overall compliance and enforcement effort by opening the door to abuse and effectively providing an escape route for potential criminals. It is argued that the schizophrenic character of S24G is at the heart of this dilemma. This research presents theoretical and practical perspectives on non-compliance and analyses data collected on S24G applications in Gauteng in order to determine the effect of S24G on compliance. It also identifies key factors influencing effectiveness of S24G, and derives from the above key performance areas to improve effectiveness of S24G. / Thesis (M. Physique du quark top dans l'expérience CMS au démarrage du LHC

Le Grand, Thomas 28 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
±27(syst.) pb

Why Corporations Avoid Taxes Through Inversions: How To Fix the United States Tax System

Naon, Joshua 01 January 2015 (has links)
The current United States tax code regarding inversions and collection of foreign taxable income is outdated in a heavily globalized world market. Multinational corporations have played games to circumvent the current inversion tax code, Section 7874, in order to lower their effective tax bill. The avoidance of taxes stems from the high corporate tax rate combined with the United States’ worldwide taxation policy, which few countries in the developed world implement. The fear for United States politicians and citizens alike is that the current trend of tax inversions will increase to the point of an exodus of corporations to tax havens. This paper will begin by analyzing inversions, from both a corporate view and a government view. It will delve into why inversions have become so prevalent today. This paper will offer a proposal to prevent unfair inversion practices by U.S. corporations and make suggestions to remove the root of the problem: a high corporate tax rate. Ultimately, this paper will conclude that an adaption of the current inversion prevention provision combined with lower taxes will not only benefit the U.S. corporations, it will maintain the current government tax revenue received from corporations, and increase cash flow into the United States.

Beyond culture in the courts: re-inspiring approaches to Aboriginal and treaty rights in Canadian jurisprudence.

Starblanket, Gina 26 April 2012 (has links)
Over the last 30 years, the concept of culture has gained increased ground in Canadian jurisprudence on Aboriginal and Treaty rights under section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982. This thesis focuses on the gendered nature of the court’s culturalist method of interpreting and adjudicating s.35, arguing that it acts as a containment strategy with respect to Aboriginal and Treaty rights generally, and Indigenous women’s rights in particular. Specific focus is given to the frequent and extreme rights infringements experienced by Indigenous women in Canadian contexts. This project foregrounds Indigenous narratives, Treaty-based and otherwise, as a way of inspiring a s.35 framework that extends well beyond the confines of culture and provides more equitable, comprehensive and substantive protection for a broad range of Aboriginal and Treaty rights within Canadian legal and political institutions. / Graduate

Search for Lepton Universality Violation Using Υ (3S) Decays

King, Gregory 23 December 2014 (has links)
The measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions of Υ (3S) decays into τ leptons over dimuons (R τ /μ = B(Υ (3S) → τ + τ − )/B(Υ (3S) → μ + μ − )) is a test of lepton universality. A violation of lepton universality would be evidence of new physics (and possibly of a light CP-odd Higgs boson). A sample of Υ (3S) decays (2.408 fb −1 ) collected with the B A B AR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory was used to determine that the ratio R τ /μ is R τ /μ = 1.0385 ± 0.034 ± 0.019. Using the remaining blinded data sample (corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25.6 fb −1 ) the estimated statistical sensitivity will be 1.1 % and the estimated systematic uncertainty of R τ /μ is 1.9 %. Prior to this work, previous measurements of R τ /μ had an estimated total precision of 10 %. / Graduate

Untersuchung der Patientenzufriedenheit nach abdominaler Schnittentbindung

Hoffmann, Franziska 03 February 2015 (has links) (PDF)
Objective: We aimed to analyze the birth experience of women with caesarean section (CS) and the influence of clarification. Furthermore weaknesses of care from women’s view should be determined. Method: Online survey of women who had at least one CS Results: We analyzed data of 383 women. 47,8% women had a primary, 52,2% a secondary CS . The birth experience ranged from wonderful (13,3%) to gruesome (25,1%). There were significant more women with secondary CS whose birth experience was associated with negative emotions. Regarded in hindsight for 29,0% the CS was better than expected and 39,6% stated it had been worse than assumed. Almost half of participants stated having coped (rather) bad with the CS and its concomitants. The opportunity of psychological consultation in hospital or at least addresses to contact when needed were repeatedly required. In this survey the birth experience as well as the meeting of expectations toward CS depended on the satisfaction with the antenatal discussion by obstetricians and the clarification by medical staff while for antenatal classes no significant influence could be proved. Conclusions: A substantial amount of women had a negative birth experience. More effort concerning clarification and patient-centered care is required.
