Acompanhou o surgimento do pesquisador,
As
Norte.
Blanchot (1987; 2005), Alfredo Bosi (1987) e Gaston Bachelard (s/d). / This study followed the development of Oswaldo Lamartine de Faria as an
intellectual, with the aim of establishing the emergence of that de Faria?s work under the
umbrella of the sert?o (hinterland) in Northeast Brazil. It accompanied the emergence of
the researcher, his discovery of his mission to study the sert?o in Serid? and the vital
importance of his relationship with Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, since despite being a natural
born observer, Oswaldo Lamartine embarked on a career as a researcher after
encouragement by Cascudo. The first chapter of this study, denominated The Gates of
Time, portrays the country during the drought of 1919, the year Lamartine was born. It
describes his childhood and first encounters with C?mara Cascudo; his urban exile in Rio
de Janeiro; the books written by the young Oswaldo, those that came later, and his
definitive return to the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The following two chapters, Sand
beneath the Feet of the Soul and Images of a Nobleman from the Sert?o, summarize
Lamartine?s books and describe his entry into the canon of the state?s culture, with
particular prominence given to his interview for the documentary ?Oswaldo Lamartine:
prince of the sert?o?, highlighting his attempt (through his writing) to preserve his own
existence. In the second section, Verses, Bold, Between the Lines features analyses of
texts dedicated to Oswaldo Lamartine, such as those written by de Zila Mamede, Maria
L?cia Dal Farra and Paulo de Tarso Correia de Melo. The next chapter, entitled Warm
and Vivid Ashes, highlights Lamartine?s correspondence with Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo
and the incredible friendship between the two researchers. Cascudo?s letters are analyzed
through the book De Cascudo para Oswaldo (From Cascudo to Oswaldo) and and are a
powerful testimony of Oswaldo Lamartine?s permanent connection to Rio Grande do
Norte. In conclusion, the final chapter entitled Combine, Tattoo, Imprint analyzes the
writer?s five-book collection entitled Sert?es do Serid? (Hinterlands of Serid?). In reading
each of these, it becomes clear that observing reality was vital to the writer?s work. This is
one of the first studies to be conducted about Oswaldo Lamartine at the Federal University
of Rio Grande do Norte and its main theoretical references were the reflections of authors
Jacques Le Goff (2003), Lejeune (1994; 2008), Maurice Blanchot (1987; 2005), Alfredo
Bosi (1987) and Gaston Bachelard (n.d.).

Brazilian Northeast region has historically had a massive process of emigration, which has
been caused by semiarid rigorous droughts, tied to poor living conditions and low HDI. These
are the factors that could explain this significant mobility pattern towards the South and
Southeast of the country. However, the Northeast has been modifying its role in the national
migration context. The region?s states have presented, in recent years, decreasing emigration
rates and increasing immigration rates, which indicates new patterns of Brazilian migration
flows through a greater importance of return migration. Taking into account that the new
patterns of population distribution are dialectally correlated to the productive restructuring
contexts in the Northeast, which have been undertaking different shapes lately, at the same
time that we verify increasing return migration into the area, we look forward to analyzing the
Northern Semiarid flows in order to identify and recognize the new roles of the cities in this
region as spaces of population attraction in the Northeast, which has a singular migration
dynamic and emerges as a locus of pull and turnover spaces that polarize the flows regionally.
In this sense, the Northern Semiarid has had a migration attractiveness directly linked to the
urbanization process that has taken place in the region, as well as to the boosting of shortdistance
migration flows. In order to develop this research, we analyzed individual migrant
characteristics that are singular in relation to what is commonly attributed to certain migrant
typologies, such as direct migrants, return migrants and non-immigrant populations. This
indicates that, despite the region general inequality context, the Northern Semiarid migrants
hold better social indicators than the other traditional emigrants in the area. The increasing
share of older and female migrant groups, as well as raising school enrollment rates, are
elements that help us to understand this new migration context and the recent roles undertaken
by migrants in a moment of increasing public policies? investments in the Northern Semiarid.

The internalization process of the Portuguese possession in Northern Captaincies - after the Dutch eviction and the development of activities related to livestock in the backlands (Sert?o) ? expanded the Portuguese territory in America. This process resulted in the advancement of Portuguese conquest over the region and conflicts involving agents of colonization and indigenous groups who inhabited that space, as well as conflicts of interest of captaincy?s major social groups and the defense policies of the Portuguese territory possession. Among the rivers which run through Rio Grande captaincy?s territory, the A?u was the one that aroused conquerors and colonizers of the back lands interest, making that spatiality an area where interest and power exercises converged and generated discord. This research aims to analyze the territorial process of Assu backlands, from the pioneers, conquerors and colonizers action over the space studied, during the event known as the War of the Barbarians in Assu, conflict that ensured the integration of the area the territory and the wishes of the Portuguese crown. Thus, it will be taken as objects of study social phenomena that characterized Assu?s riverside - at the turn of the 17th to the 18th century, in a cutout that extends from 1680 to 1720 - as an area of conflicts of interest, noticeable for analysis from period documents such as records of land grants concessions, correspondence between colonial and kingdom authorities, documents from the exercise of administration of Portuguese America and legislation.

Previous issue date: 2012-07-12 / Backland? are not only geographic spaces limited by physically established borders. It is a
space composed by events, experiences, behavior, symbology, manners related to how to live
and see the world. It is developed from historical processes and layers of discourses that
contact each other, compete among themselves, establish agreement, promote consensus
which define, resignify and update them over time. The present paper seeks to analyze and
discuss the forms in which discourses produced by cordel literature? sold and consumed in
popular locations, from backlands to coast cities, during the first four decades of 20th century,
represented the environment, habits, moral codes, cultural traits, social types, rites and beliefs,
related to northeastern backlands. The paper also aims to investigate the forms on how
discourses produced by representations contributed to the constitution of backlands as a space
culturally constructed. Poems from the poet and editor Jo?o Martins de Athayde will be used
to establish dialogues between discourses produced by cordel and others discursive
modalities, such as, newspapers, prose literature, painting, texts of memoirists and
historiography, about backlands, analyzing how those representations circulated, were
consumed and absorbed by backlands and other spaces inhabitants, contacted and agreed

Patativa do Assar??s poems published in his first book, Inspira??o Nordestina, are the inspiration to development of this study, owing to them our study showed the complexity of the representation of Sert?o in Patativa?s discourse. The analysis is based on observation that the region was sung for Patativa with deep fidelity to his view about it, without necessarily help the building of similar images to what means ?real? or to what is known by the hegemonic discourse. This study, in this sense, interpret various tensions about the sign of Sert?o shown in Patativa?s poetry, suggest them like elements which constitute a poetic in frontier condition. For that, the research, especially, is based on the theories of Silviano Santiago (2000) about the concept of ?entre-lugar?, on studies about the traditions by Oct?vio Paz (1984) and Amadou Hampat? B? (1982), as well as on researches about country and city / sert?o and metropolis by Raymond Williams (1989) and Durval Muniz (2011). The discourse of Patativa was analysed starting from the idea about his subject construction, entering in the Sert?o which was sing by him and in that one which dialogues with what is said by the other, lastly, the study is balanced in the middle of the fight of this Sert?o which exists and resists.

This study aims to reflect on the identity constructions about Serid? as portrayed in works of Potiguar artists Iran Dantas, Assis Marinho and Assis Costa (1960-2010). The works will be analyzed from vision applied in Social History of Art, which is a relationship between the artist, the work and society, based on the methodological theoretical assumptions of Michael Baxandall, T. J. Clark, Enrico Castelnuovo and Jorge Coli. In addition to referring to Stuart Hall, Albuquerque Junior and Muirakytan K. Mac?do in the discussion of cultural and regional identity. We aim to question the representative icons in this space marked by a historical construction characterized by the multiple dimensions of human experience and daily life pervaded of a collective imagination, creating a sense of belonging to the place, establishing a spatial identity. In this perspective, the aim is to develop an outline that can contextualize the art produced in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. Starting out with the artists Newton Navarro and Dorian Gray Caldas, we discuss a reflection on their works provided, which constitute an iconography built to identify the state, solidifying some sense of identity, particularly towards the city of Natal. Thus, the iconography of these two painters provides a pictorial reference repository to Seridoense artists such as Iran Dantas, Assis Marinho and Assis Costa, who produce a set of images creating a way to see this regional space. In practical terms, the study proposes sew the threads of these artists? pictorial fabric, full of historicity, seeing art as a human and historical production, pervades with an imagetic-discursive construction. One can say that the sense of Serid? identity is built on a regionalist discourse and reaffirmed in the pictorial production of the artists who have their aesthetic and cultural singularities. In addition, we emphasize the understanding of individual and creative universe for each of them in developing their art.

Adverse Effects of Serotonin Depletion in Developing ZebrafishAirhart, Mark J., Lee, Deborah H., Wilson, Tracy D., Miller, Barney E., Miller, Merry N., Skalko, Richard G., Monaco, Paul J. 01 January 2012 (has links)
In this study, p-chlorophenylalanine (pCPA), an inhibitor of tryptophan hydroxylase (the rate limiting enzyme of serotonin synthesis), was used to reduce serotonin (5HT) levels during early development in zebrafish embryos. One day old dechorionated embryos were treated with 25μM pCPA for 24h and subsequently rescued. Immunohistological studies using a 5HT antibody confirmed that 5HT neurons in the brain and spinal cord were depleted of transmitter by 2days post fertilization (dpf). Twenty four hours after pCPA exposure embryos were unable to burst swim and were nearly paralyzed. Movement began to improve at 4dpf, and by 7dpf, larvae exhibited swimming activity. Rescued larvae continued to grow in rostrocaudal length over 5days post-rescue, but their length was always 16-21% below controls. Surprisingly, both groups displayed the same number of myotomes. To examine whether hypertonicity of myotomes in treated embryos played a role in their shorter rostrocaudal lengths, 1dpf embryos were exposed to a combination of 25μM pCPA and 0.6mM of the sodium channel blocker ethyl 3-aminobenzoate methanesulfonate (MS-222). After a 24hour exposure, the embryos exhibited the same rostrocaudal length as control embryos suggesting that myotome hypertonicity plays a major role in the decreased axial length of the treated larvae. In addition, pCPA treated 2dpf embryos exhibited abnormal notochordal morphology that persisted throughout recovery. Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed to determine the relative levels of the serotonin 1A receptor (5HT 1A) transcript and the serotonin transporter (SERT) transcript in the brain and spinal cord of control and treated embryos. Transcripts were present in both brain and spinal cord as early as 1dpf and reached maximal concentrations by 3dpf. Embryos treated with pCPA demonstrated a decrease in the concentration of 5HT 1A transcript in both brain and spinal cord. While SERT transcript levels remained unaffected in brain, they were decreased in spinal cord. Five days subsequent to pCPA rescue, 5HT 1A transcript concentrations remained decreased in brain while SERT transcript levels were elevated in both regions. These findings suggest that reduction of 5HT during early zebrafish development may have an adverse effect on body length, notochordal morphology, locomotor behavior, and serotonin message-related expression.

Movement Disorders and Neurochemical Changes in Zebrafish Larvae After Bath Exposure to Fluoxetine (PROZAC)Airhart, Mark J., Lee, Deborah H., Wilson, Tracy D., Miller, Barney E., Miller, Merry N., Skalko, Richard G. 01 November 2007 (has links)
This study examines the effects of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), fluoxetine (PROZAC), on the ontogeny of spontaneous swimming activity (SSA) in developing zebrafish. The development of zebrafish motor behavior consists of four sequential locomotor patterns that develop over 1-5 days post fertilization (dpf), with the final pattern, SSA, established at 4-5 dpf. In stage specific experiments, larvae were exposed to 4.6 μM fluoxetine for 24 h periods beginning at 24 h post fertilization (hpf) and extending through 5 dpf. From 1-3 dpf, there was no effect on SSA or earlier stages of motor development, i.e., spontaneous coiling, evoked coiling and burst swimming. Fluoxetine exposure at 3 dpf for 24 h resulted in a transient decrease in SSA through 7 dpf with a complete recovery by 8 dpf. Larvae exposed to 4.6 μM fluoxetine for 24 h on 4 or 5 dpf showed a significant decrease in SSA by day 6 with no recovery through 14 dpf. Although SSA was significantly affected 24 h after fluoxetine exposure, there was little or no effect on pectoral fin movement. These results demonstrate both a stage specific and a long term effect of 4.6 μM fluoxetine exposure in 4 and 5 dpf larvae. Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed to determine the relative levels of a serotonin transporter protein (SERT) transcript and the serotonin 1A (5-HT1A) receptor transcript in developing embryos/larvae over 1-6 dpf. Both transcripts were present at 24 hpf with the relative concentration of SERT transcript showing no change over the developmental time range. The relative concentration of the 5-HT1A receptor transcript, however, showed a two-tiered pattern of concentration. RT-PCR was also used to detect potential changes in the SERT and 5-HT1A receptor transcripts in 6 dpf larvae after a 24 h exposure to 4.6 μM fluoxetine on 5 dpf. Three separate regions of the CNS were individually analyzed, two defined brain regions and spinal cord. The two brain regions showed no effect on transcript levels subsequent to fluoxetine exposure, however, the spinal cord showed a significant decrease in both transcripts. These results suggest a correlation between decreased concentration of SERT and 5-HT1A receptor transcripts in spinal cord and decreased SSA subsequent to fluoxetine exposure.
