voorwaardes, soos aangedui in hoofstuk vier.
Sleutelwoorde: reflekterende span; "straatkinders"; ekosistemiese benadering; ekologie;
"straatkinders" en hulle gesinne by ltumeleng.
Die navorsing het aangedui dat 'n ekosistemiese benadering tot gesinsterapie as / The community showed concern about the increasing number of children living and
working on the streets within the urban context of Pretoria. This researchwas undertaken to address
the needs of these children and to find alternative ways of working with them. A context was
created so that their voices could be heard.
Ecosystemic principles were initially used, but were not meaningful to the team who worked
together.
A case study design proved useful in developing and "training" of the team who would be working
together, as well as applying ecosystemic principles while making services available to the "street
children" and their families in ltumeleng.
The research indicated that an ecosystemic approach to family therapy could be used as an
alternative to "traditional" forms of family therapy, subject to certain conditions, as stipulated in Chapter Four. / Social Work / M.A. (Sosiale Wetenskappe (Geestesgesondheid))

Who benefited? : implications of "Project Go" for the children in a children's homeDe Lauwere, Henriette 01 1900 (has links)
The transformation of child and youth care ran concurrently with the political transformation in South Afriola. One of the projects aimed at establishing the transformation of child and youth care, was Project Go. This project placed a moratorium on the transfer of children 'deeper' into the child care system. It aimed at reunifying children ln residential care wtth their families. Furthermore, the projed assessed the children in the system with the aim
of accommodating them in the least restrictive, most empowering child care facility. This narrative action research study focused on the effects of Project Go and the transformations on the children at the Children's Haven M T R Smit This study can also be described as emanciipatory action research. This qualitative study is positioned within a social construction discourse. Knowledge was socially constructed through multiple reflexive conversations. I researched the background to the transformation of the child and youth care system and
investigated the implications of the transformation for the children at t.he Children's Haven M T R Smit,as well as for the child care workers and management of the haven. A narrative approach was employed. I relied on the Foucauldian discourse to come to some understanding of issues of power and resistance. Following Foucauldian thought, I investigated discourses constituting the care that the children at the Children's Haven M T R Smit received. This investigatlon led me to formulate some understanding of the history of the Dutch Reformed Church
(DRC) the body responsible for the management of the haven since it was founded in the earty 1920s. 0nce I reached an understanding of some of the historical developments of the DRC (which l
learned was closely linked lo Afrikaner politics), I explored some implications of the transformation for the DRC's future involvement with the children in its care. This exploration led me to a comparison of the theology of the DRC and black liberation theology, focusing on prophetic practice. Although not an initial aim of this study, I learned that the transfornation of child and youth care held implications not only for the pastoral practice of the DRC, but also for the helping professions such as psychology, social work and child care. l focused briefly on the ethics and
some limitations of care provided by the profession of psychology. I reflected on the implications of the transformation of child and youth care for the helping professions. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / D. Th. (Practical Theology (Pastoral Therapy))

The experiences, challenges and coping resources of AIDS-orphans heading households in an urban area in the Free StateGono, Melania 01 1900 (has links)
HIV and AIDS related deaths have left numerous children heading households as the
number of adults dying from this pandemic increased significantly. The goal of this
study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences, challenges and coping
resources of AIDS-orphans heading households in an urban area in Free State using a
qualitative study. The research revealed that the level of suffering faced by these
children began with their parents’ illness. This was further worsened by the death of
the parents. These children are in most instances not absorbed by their extended
families as the traditional safety nets are stretched to their limits. Children heading
households were forced to take up adult responsibilities prematurely and as such
encounter challenges on daily basis. The study concluded that the child headed
families are a reality in South Africa and need lots of support from the government and local communities. / Social Work / M.A. (Social Work)

Community-based support groups for mental health care users : a social constructionist approachMeiring, Leana 11 1900 (has links)
High prevalence of mental illness in South African and limited Mental Health Care (MHC) resources call for ways to supplement the overburdened system to meet the rehabilitative and supportive needs of service users as stipulated in the MHC Act no. 17 of 2002. Various psychological, social, and financial difficulties plaguing MHC users require holistic treatment intervention to help them cope with their conditions. This study explored the meaning of a Tshwane District community-based support group for MHC out-patients to help illuminate the value the group had for the members. A Social Constructionist epistemology informed the qualitative research approach. Data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and employing a collage-making method. The main themes illuminated by thematic analysis suggest that the group provided the members with a sense of belonging, mental and physical mobilisation and stimulation, a source of support, multiple learning experiences, and contributed to personal transformation and growth. / Psychology / M.A. (Social Science (Research Consultation))

A critical investigation of deaf comprehension of signed tv news interpretationWehrmeyer, Jennifer Ella January 2013 (has links)
This study investigates factors hampering comprehension of sign language interpretations rendered on South African TV news bulletins in terms of Deaf viewers’ expectancy norms and corpus analysis of authentic interpretations. The research fills a gap in the emerging discipline of Sign Language Interpreting Studies, specifically with reference to corpus studies. The study presents a new model for translation/interpretation evaluation based on the introduction of Grounded Theory (GT) into a reception-oriented model. The research question is addressed holistically in terms of target audience competencies and expectations, aspects of the physical setting, interpreters’ use of language and interpreting choices. The South African Deaf community are incorporated as experts into the assessment process, thereby empirically grounding the research within the socio-dynamic context of the target audience. Triangulation in data collection and analysis was provided by applying multiple mixed data collection methods, namely questionnaires, interviews, eye-tracking and corpus tools. The primary variables identified by the study are the small picture size and use of dialect. Secondary variables identified include inconsistent or inadequate use of non-manual features, incoherent or non-simultaneous mouthing, careless or incorrect sign execution, too fast signing, loss of visibility against skin or clothing, omission of vital elements of sentence structure, adherence to source language structures, meaningless additions, incorrect referencing, oversimplification and violations of Deaf norms of restructuring, information transfer, gatekeeping and third person interpreting. The identification of these factors allows the construction of a series of testable hypotheses, thereby providing a broad platform for further research. Apart from pioneering corpus-driven sign language interpreting research, the study makes significant contributions to present knowledge of evaluative models, interpreting strategies and norms and systems of transcription and annotation. / Linguistics / Thesis (D. Die emosionele belewing van graad 7 leerders in 'n bendegeteisterde gebiedJeffries, Victor Vincent 11 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and Engish / The aim of this research was to explore the emotional experience of grade 7 learners in a
gang afflicted area. The researcher further investigated how the learners experience this
gang violence and how they give meaning to it The researcher also examined the
possible ways in which the educational psychologist could assist these learners in
actualising their full potential.
A literature study of relevant sources has been undertaken to establish the theoretical
context of the gang related problem. Two groups of 8 grade 7 learners were used as
respondents in the empirical study. The qualitative research method has been used and
the researcher made use of focus groups and interviews as measuring instruments.
The results of the empirical study have shown that learners experience gang violence
negatively when they are exposed to it on a regular basis and that it impacts negatively on
their performance at school.
skoolwerk impakteer. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. (Specialisation in Guidance and Counselling)

The experiences of elderly women (goGogetters) in assisting orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV and AIDS at Musina in the Limpopo ProvincePhaka, Mpudi Elizabeth 10 1900 (has links)
Text in English / Even though the prevalence of HIV has declined, South Africa continues to have a large number of people who are infected with HIV. Most communities still have to deal with the effects of HIV and AIDS on orphans and vulnerable children. One way of mitigating the effects of HIV and AIDS is strengthening families and communities to provide stable care to orphans. However, most families do not have the capacity to provide sufficient care to orphans hence the need for external support from the community and civil society organisations, in this instance provided through the loveLife goGogetter programme. The findings proved that the goGogetters relied on the support they received through the relationships and networks established in the community to enable them to provide effective service to orphans. The study demonstrated the importance of community networks in providing for the basic needs of orphans. / Social Work / M.A. (Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS)

An investigation into social contextual factors that discouraged middle-aged men (30-58) from attending HIV counselling and testing : a case study of Ratanda Heidelberg, South AfricaMageto, Fred Gichana 11 1900 (has links)
This study investigated social contextual factors influencing poor uptake of HIV counselling and testing (HCT) services by middle-aged black men in Ratanda, Heidelberg. A qualitative research approach was used in which ten men and two key informants were interviewed. Themes explored were the participants’ biographical characteristics; knowledge of HIV and AIDS; health-seeking behaviours; understanding of multiple sexual partnerships and male circumcision and challenges in utilising HCT services. Various social behaviour change theories formed the theoretical framework guiding this study. It was found that fear, stigma and cultural factors largely contributed to poor HCT uptake. Moreover despite the men’s high HIV risk perceptions, behaviour change lags behind. Greater efforts to establish a men’s forum to discuss sexual health matters in Ratanda is recommended. / Health Studies / M. A. (Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS)
