Appien d’Alexandrie est un rhéteur et un historien grec de Rome qui vécut sous les Antonins (Ier — IIe s. ap. J.-C.). L’Histoire Romaine qu’il composa en vingt-quatre livres et dont les Guerres Civiles forment un sous-ensemble couvre la période allant des origines de Rome jusqu’au règne de Trajan (VIIIe s. av. J.-C. — IIe s. ap. J.-C.). Le cinquième livre des Guerres Civiles relate en particulier les événements de la fin de la République Romaine, depuis les lendemains de la bataille de Philippes (42 av. J.-C.) jusqu’à la mort de Sextus Pompée (35 av. J.-C). Le présent travail à caractère philologique et historique vise à réaliser une édition de ce livre conforme aux exigences de la Collection des Universités de France. Il comprend donc le texte grec établi après une collation nouvelle des manuscrits, une traduction française moderne, ainsi que des commentaires historiques et littéraires sous forme de notice et d’annotations. / Appian of Alexandria was a Greek rhetor and a historian of Rome who lived under the Antoninian dynasty (Ist — IInd century A. D.). He wrote a Roman History in twenty-four books which covers the period from the origins of Rome to the reign of Trajan (VIIIth century B. C. — IInd century A. D.). TheCivil Wars are part of this historical work. The fifth book of the Civil Wars is about the late Roman Republic, more particularly the events occurring since the victory of Philippi (42 B. C.) until the death of Sextus Pompey (35 A. D.). Our philological and historical researches are aimed at making a critical edition of this book in accordance with the requirements of the Collection des Universités de France. Our dissertation thus contains the greek text established by a new collation of the manuscripts, a modern french translation, as well as a litterary and historical commentary by way of introduction and annotations.
