Organizational change- its mechanisms, and its outcomes - is a topic of increasing interest and study in both business and education. The external environment, including the economic, political, and cultural dimensions of society is rapidly changing, growing in complexity and posing numerous challenges. The creation of the learning organisation is one of the responses to these challenges. During the 1990s the concept of the “learning organisation” attracted much attention and generated a significant amount of research. The central tenent of a learning organisation is that it is able to learn and therefore able to adapt better to both external and internal challenges. The study of how learning takes place in organisations has therefore become important in understanding organisational change.
In the current research study, the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system meant that organisational change would be inevitable. New information technology software would result in changes in business processes, changes in work groups, changes in terminology and changes in how work is processed. The implication was that there would be a need for learning to take place in order for organisational change to take place. The Guttman’s Stage of Assimilation Model formed the theoretical basis for the research. A key assumption is that the assimilation of technology is best characterised as a process of organisational learning.
The research findings indicated that learning did take place and Guttman’s model provided interesting insights into the different types of assimilation that took place at different level of the organisation. Interesting differences were found between academic and support staff and useful lessons were learned about how ERP systems can be introduced into higher education organisations. The current research findings also provided evidence that training and communication were crucial during a change process. These two elements are also vital in enabling organisational learning to take place.

Music is an essential part of people’s every day lives, accompanying them as they go about their daily routines, and it can be experienced in almost any context now; which allows us to capture, categorize and reconstruct the activities and memories that shape our personal, social and cultural lives. In this thesis, the area of concern that I explore is the creation of an online community based on people’s experiences with music. Because of the personal nature of the topic and the tendency for the information to change over time, the methodology I chose was action research, specifically Checkland and Holwell’s (1998) FMA methodology. Using this approach, I investigate the different kinds of technology that can be used to build the foundations of the community and which factors are most salient to facilitate member growth. I also examine the effects that user-generated content has on the participation within an online community and the technological features that aid in facilitating this. I discovered that trust is a vital part of an online community because it fosters cooperation between members through visible pro-social behaviour, and that a combination of ease of use, usefulness and the size of the community could influence the participation and activity of users in generating content. I also found that the development cycle for Internet software never ends, thus permanently in beta, as there will always be improvements to the community based on user feedback. I analyzed the data by comparing key metrics such as membership and user-generated content growth for each community to see if the learning and reflections from previous cycles helped improve community participation in the current cycle. The results I obtained and method I used in the thesis demonstrated my contribution to the body of knowledge in using action research theory, specifically the FMA methodology, to investigate, learn and develop an online community as an app creator. I argue that action research can help guide academic-based startups in much the same way as other startup frameworks and this point is one of the focuses for future research on this topic.

An Overview of Event-based Facades for Modular Composition and Coordination of Multiple ApplicationsMalakuti, Somayeh 18 May 2016 (has links) (PDF)
Complex software systems are usually developed as systems of systems (SoS’s) in which multiple constituent applications are composed and coordinated to fulfill desired system-level requirements. The constituent applications must be augmented with suitable coordination-specific interfaces, through which they can participate in coordinated interactions. Such interfaces as well as coordination rules have a crosscutting nature. Therefore, to increase the reusability of the applications and to increase the comprehensibility of SoS’s, suitable mechanisms are required to modularize the coordination rules and interfaces from the constituent applications. We introduce a new abstraction named as architectural event modules (AEMs), which facilitate defining constituent applications and desired coordination rules as modules of SoS’s. AEMs augment the constituent applications with event-based facades to let them participate in coordinated interactions. We introduce the EventArch language in which the concept of AEMs is implemented, and illustrate its suitability using a case study.

Auf diesem ersten sächsischen Robotertreffen stand vor allem die Arbeit mit humanoiden Robotern im Mittelpunkt.

Distributed Game Environment : A Software Product Line for Education and ResearchQuan, Nguyen January 2013 (has links)
A software product line is a set of software-intensive systems that share a common, managed set of features satisfying the specific needs of a particular market segment or demand. Software product lines capitalize commonality and manage variation to reduce the time, effort, cost and complexity when creating and maintaining products in a product line. Therefore reusing core assets, software product line can address problems such as cost, time-to-market, quality, complexity of developing and maintaining variants, and need to quickly respond to market’s demands. The development of a software product line is different from conventional software development and in the area of education and research of product line there is a lack of a suitable purposefully designed and developed software product line (SPL) that can be used for educational or research purposes. In this thesis we have developed a software product line for turn-based two players distributed board games environment that can be used for educational and research purposes. The software product line supports dynamic runtime update, including games, chat, and security features, via OSGi framework. Furthermore, it supports remote gameplay via local area network and dynamic runtime activity recovery. We delivered a product configuration tool that is used to derive and configure products from the core assets based on feature selection. We have also modeled the software product line’s features and documented its requirements, architecture and user guides. Furthermore, we performed functional and integration tests of the software product line to ensure that the requirements are met according to the requirements specification prescribed by the stakeholders.

Interaktivní tabule ve výuce fyziky na druhém stupni ZŠ / Interactive whiteboard in teaching physics on secondary level of basic schoolDRN, Tomáš January 2013 (has links)
This graduate research thesis describes how to use interactive whiteboards during physics classes in primary school. The thesis focuses on the method and way how to integrate this equipment into classes. Furthermore, there are evaluations of educational applications for this equipment on the Internet and examples of how teachers have incorporated this application into their classes. In addition, this work is supported by research undertaken at selected middle schools in the South Bohemia. The whole work includes videos of this technology being used during physic lectures and own digital learning materials.
