Hemtjänsten i Växjö kommun : En fallstudie om personal- och ruttplanering / Home care for the elders in Växjö municipality : A case study about personnel and route planning

Nählstedt, Kristoffer, Norén, Martin January 2017 (has links)
Course: Examensarbete i logistik för Civilekonomprogrammet, 4FE19E, VT17 Authors: Martin Norén and Kristoffer Nählstedt Tutor: Hana Hulthén Examiner: Helena Forslund Title: Home care for the elders in Växjö municipality - A case study about personnel and route planning Background: In Sweden the amount of people living in an assisted living have reduced significantly during the recent years and is predicted to be reduced even more. At the mean time the amount of elders in need of care is increasing. One way of solving this is by the use of home care. To handle its duty home care units use different kinds of planning tools to ensure quality of the care and that the home care is being cost efficient. The increased demand on the home care service requires a lot of resources and it is today very hard to achieve the internal goals which have been set up by the organisation. Therefore it is now more important than ever with efficient planning processes that can ease and support the home care service in its obligations. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to streamline the planning process in elder care units. The streamlined planning process intends to achieve a more cost efficient elder care, that achieves the objectives concerning continuity and time spent with the elders. Method: The study is a case study, which have been carried out in the municipality of Växjö. With the use of semi-structured interviews, gathering of qualitative and quantitative data the study have been able to obtain empirical material. In order to identify waste the authors used process mapping and then later on proposed improvements with support from a number of theories. Conclusions: The authors managed to propose improvements on all of three identified planning processes. Firstly, the study presented the proposed improvements on the process of ensuring competent personnel with the use of both qualitative and quantitative data. In the route planning process the authors split the home care unit of Vikaholm into two units, based on the locations of the elders. Thereby the authors managed to improve all of the three main goals of the home care unit; continuity, economy and the amount of time the care takers spend with the elders. Observations and interviews on the different units lead to the conclusion of potential improvements on how home care units could work to be more efficient in their scheduling processes. Keywords: Home care, elder care, time spent with the elder, planning, process planning, process mapping, route planning, forecasting.

Sociologický výzkum televizního chování. Faktory ovlivňující dobu strávenou sledováním televize / Sociological research of TV audience behaviour. Factors determining the time spent watichng TV

Slavíčková, Veronika January 2011 (has links)
Sociological Research of TV Audience Behaviour Factors Determining The Time Spent Watching TV ABSTRACT The thesis deals with the phenomenon of TV viewing and with TV audience behaviour research. The theoretical part demarcates watching TV within leisure activities and deals with the question of motivation for watching TV as well. It also mentions the approach of people who intentionally try to exclude TV from their life. The text does not omit even the important contemporary determinants of watching TV - Internet and digitization of TV broadcasting. Subsequently, the main methods of TV audience behaviour research in the Czech Republic are introduced. In the empirical part, the main factors that most affect the time spent watching TV are being identified - first through separate elementary analyses and afterwards through searching for a regression model that would best predict the time spent watching TV for individuals and groups based on their socio-demographic and other characteristics. Keywords: television, time spent watching TV, watching TV, ATS, Peoplemeter, TVmeter, TV viewer, TV audience behaviour research

Effects of sodium nitrite and erythorbate on microbiological stability of mechanically deboned meat and processing of coated reestructured product.

Nunes, Tatiana Pacheco 10 September 2003 (has links)
The breasts of heavy fowls, white commercial egg-layers and chickens were manually deboned in order to evaluate and compare technological properties—water hold and emulsifying capacity—and pH and centesimal composition, as well as to prepare and assess a restructured coated product. The results of the analyses indicated that there was not a significant difference between the meats analyzed, nor among the processed products, implying the regular use of such meat in the food industry. The remaining parts of the hens’ carcasses were mechanically deboned for the evaluation of microbiological stability. The mechanically deboned meat (MDM) was submitted to two treatments: I) 150ppm of nitrite, packed in polyethylene bags; II) 150ppm of nitrite and 500ppm of erythorbate, packed in polyethylene bags. The control meats were just packed in polyethylene bags. All samples were frozen-stored at -18ºC for 99 days. The results of microbiological characterization indicated that both samples from heavy fowls and egg-layers were in accordance with the Brazilian legislation. MDM microbiological stability evaluation on the first and last days for fecal coliforms, mesophiles, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens and Pseudomonas, as well as the analyses carried out every fifteen days for psychrotrophics bacteria indicated that there was not a significant reduction in the presence of the above, irrespective of the treatment applied. Salmonella was not detected in any of the samples. Such results indicated that freezing storage period was the main factor responsible for the reduction of the bacterial count in MDM.

Identifizierung und Charakterisierung natürlicher Rohstoffe als Bodenverbesserungsmittel sandiger Substrate

Garz, Kathleen 20 October 2017 (has links)
The aim of the study was to identify and characterize natural raw materials as a potential soil improver. The capacity for measurable influence on the chemical, physical and biological properties of sandy substratum was investigated. The differentiated affect of the raw materials has been tested for maize and wheat using test series in a greenhouse as well as in open fields. Raw wool, sheep wool pellets and spent grains were considered based on comprehensive literature research. It was observed that spent grains can provide large amounts of nitrogen (N=3.95\%; C/N=12.74). Moreover, it contains relatively high levels of phosphorus and magnesium (8.68 g kg-1 and 4.05 g/kg, respectively), but only small amounts of potassium (1.40 g/kg). Furthermore, a short-term improvement of the water storage capacity of sandy substratum using a application rate of 0.5 M.-\% was observed. Raw wool has higher amounts of nitrogen with Nt=13.56\% compared to spent grains. Moreover, higher levels of potassium with a value of 35.41 g/kg were observed, but spent grains have lower levels of magnesia and phosphor with values of 0.23 g/kg and 0.34 g/kg, respectively. The mineralization of the raw wool occurs slowly compared to (malt) spent grains, such that nutrients are slowly available to plants. Initially, raw wool has a highly hydrophobic character with increasing depletion of Lanolin a measurable improvement of the water storage capacity of sandy substratum using an application rate of 0.1 M.-\% was observed. Nutrients available to plants are provided quicker by industrially remanufactured sheep wool pellets in comparison to raw wool. Nutrients are released on a long-term basis by sheep wool pellets similar to the raw wool and the influence on the soil-physical properties are verifiable for longer periods of time. However, an application rate of 0.5 M.-\% is necessary.

Utilização de resíduos de catalisador (ECAT) e cinzas da casca de arroz (CCA) na elaboração de vidros silicatos soda-cal destinados a embalagem / Use of rice rusk ash and spent catalyst as a source of raw material for the production and characterization of soda-lime silicate glasses destined for packaging

Mariana Silva de Araujo 02 February 2016 (has links)
In this study, the use of two industrial solid wastes (ISW), generated in large quantities in Brazil, were presented in production of soda-lime silicate glasses destined for packaging. The evaluated wastes were rice husk ash (RHA) and the spent catalyst at the Petrochemical Fluid Catalytic Cracking units (ECAT), both may be classified as a class II solid waste according to NBR 10.004. This new proposal for the allocation of such wastes is an alternative to current provisions, seeking not only to minimize environmental impacts, but also enrich them as raw materials. For the samples production, besides ISW were used melting oxide (Na2CO3) and stabilizer oxide (CaO).The results demonstrate that both can be used in their raw form (without treatment) replacing important raw materials, sources of Al2O3 and SiO2, essential for glass formation. The samples obtained presented amber color due to the presence of nickel (Ni²+ ion) from ECAT and 18% of optical transmittance. They also showed a good homogeneity, i.e., absence of bubbles and striae and 1,33x10-8 g/cm²·day of hydrolytic resistance according to ISO695-1984. Thus, the obtained glass is suitable for applications requiring low light transmittance such as colored glasses containers in general, which does not require perfect visibility and transparency. The incorporation in the final composition was approximately 78% in mass.

Minimização de resíduos do processamento do café solúvel através do reaproveitamento da borra para extração de óleo utilizando solvente renovável / Minimization of residues of soluble coffee processing by reuse of spent coffee grounds in oil extraction with a renewable solvent

Toda, Tatiane Akemi 04 March 2016 (has links)
Spent coffee grounds are the main residues of the soluble coffee industry, which are generated after the extraction of soluble solids with water. They are generally burned in boilers to generate energy for the coffee industry. However, this residue may contain 15 to 20 % oil, a component of interest to the food industry. Hexane is the most common solvent used in the vegetable oil industry; however, as it is a fossil fuel byproduct, biotechnology alternatives that replace it by more environmental-friendly solvents are being studied. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to determine technical viability of alcoholic solvents in oil extraction of spent coffee grounds. Solid-liquid extractions were carried out in one stage in order to analyzed the influence of the variables of the process (temperature, 60 to 90 °C; type of solvent, ethanol, ET or isopropanol, IPA; and solvent hydration level, absolute or azeotropic degree) in the characteristics of extract and raffinate phases, in terms of yield of oil extraction, chlorogenic acids (CGA), total carbohydrates, protein content, and nitrogen solubility index (NSI) of the raffinate phase. Enzymatic pre-treatment in the extraction process was also carried out to assess its effect on the oil and CGA yields, as well as NSI in the raffinate phase obtained at 70 °C. In general, it could be inferred that temperature favored lipid extraction, but solvent hydration level negatively affected extraction due to the increased polarity of the solvent. Similarly, as ET is more polar than IPA, the former solvent enabled lower yield of oil. The temperature of the process also influenced CGA extraction, which was favored by lower temperatures and increased solvent polarity. Therefore, at 60 °C, in the trials using azeotropic ethanol, oil extraction yield was lower, and CGA yield was greater. Enzymatic pre-treatment showed significant differences in the characteristics of the extract and raffinate phases. However, only the trials with absolute ethanol led to economically viable oil yields. In fact, further studies on pre-treatment variables of the enzymatic treatment should be carried out for more relevant results in relation to lipid compound extraction. Given the experimental data obtained here, it was concluded that the use of alcoholic solvents in oil extraction of spent coffee grounds is technically viable. However, the conditions of the process should be carefully analyzed for high yields of oil with greater levels of CGA to be obtained.

/
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of replacing a portion of wheat flour with extruded snack products enriched with the addition of wheat germ, brewer's spent grain and apple pomace on the rheological and textural properties of dough and on characteristics of cookies (physical, sensory, nutritive, microbiological). During the preliminary analysis (the first phase of the experimental work), the influence of defatted wheat germ particle size, wheat germ content and dough moisture content on the quality of the dough and the cookies was investigated using the Box-Behnken experimental design. During the second phase of the experimental work, the extruded corn meal with the addition of by-products of the food industry (wheat germ, brewer's spent grain and apple pomace) were prepared (the ratio of corn meal: by-product was 85:15, 70:30 and 55:45). The obtained snack products are milled and sieved to obtain 3 fractions with different particle sizes (<250 μm, 250-1000 μm and 1000-2000 μm). Characterization of the extrudates in terms of determining the chemical composition, particle size distribution, color and microbiological analysis was performed. The obtained extrudates were then used in the production of cookies for the replacement of wheat flour in quantities of 5, 10 and 15%. The Box-Behnken experimental design was used to evaluate the influence of the extrudate particle size, the share of the by-product in the extrudate, and the share of extrudates in the cookies, on the dough properties and cookies characteristics.
The results showed that the corn snack products enriched with food industry by-products (brewer's spent grain, wheat germ and apple pomace) can be used for production of functional cookies. Analysis of multi-recycle thorium fuel cycles in comparison with once-through fuel cycles

Huang, Lloyd Michael 10 April 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to develop a methodology for a thorium fuel recycling analysis that provides results for isotopics and radio-toxicity evaluation and analysis. This research is motivated by the need to reduce the long term radiological hazard in spent nuclear fuel, which mitigates the mixing hazard (radiotoxicity and chemical toxicity) and decay heat load on the repository. The first part of the thesis presents comparison of several once-through cases with uranium and thorium fuels to show how transuranics build up as fuel is depleted. The once-through analysis is performed for the following pairs of comparison cases: low enriched uranium dioxide (UOX) vs. thorium dioxide with 233UOX (233U-ThOX), natural uranium dioxide mixed with transuranic oxides (U-TRUOX) vs. thorium dioxide mixed with transuranic oxides (Th-TRUOX), natural uranium dioxide mixed with weapons grade plutonium dioxide (U-WGPuOX) vs. thorium dioxide mixed with weapons grade plutonium dioxide (Th-WGPuOX), natural uranium dioxide mixed with reactor grade plutonium dioxide (U-RGPuOX) vs. thorium mixed with reactor grade plutonium dioxide (Th-RGPuOX). The second part of the research evaluates the thorium fuel equilibrium cycle in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) and compares several recycling cases with different partitioning schemes. Radio-toxicity results of the once-through cycle and multi-recycle calculations demonstrate advantages for thorium fuel and reprocessing with respect to long term nuclear waste management.

Impact of separation capacity on transition to advanced fuel cycles

Adeniyi, Abiodun I. 27 March 2013 (has links)
One of the proposed solutions to the issue of nuclear waste volume is to transition from once through nuclear fuel cycle to advanced fuel cycles with used fuel recycling option. In any advanced fuel cycles with recycling options, the type and amount of separation technology deployed play a crucial role in the overall performance of the fuel cycle. In this work, a scenario study involving two advanced fuel cycles in addition to the once through fuel cycle were evaluated using VISION nuclear fuel cycle simulation code. The advanced fuel cycles were setup to transition completely to full recycling without any light water reactor by assuming all LWR currently in operation will have 20 years of operating life extension and no new LWR will be constructed thereafter. Several different separation capacities (1kT/yr, 2kT/yr and 4 kT/yr) were deployed and the overall impact of these capacities was analyzed in terms of resources utilization, used fuel and waste material generated and the amount of storage space required. Economic parameter (LCOE, LFCC, etc) analysis was also performed using VISION.ECON. Results presented in this work suggest that the need for LWR-UNF storage can be minimized if sufficient separation capacity is deployed early in the fuel cycle. It can also be concluded that a FuRe system without LEU will not be feasible, thus SFRs must be designed for optional use of LEU fuel. Otherwise LWRs must continue to be part of the mix to keep the near term cost of generating electricity competitive. It was observed that the higher amount of separation capacity deployed in the advanced fuel cycles led to higher LFCC and LCOE, but also translates into less environmental impact on both front and back end of the fuel cycle.
