Bouchery, Yann 27 November 2012 (has links)
Sustainability concerns are increasingly shaping customers’ behavior as well as companies’ strategy. In this context, optimizing the supply chain with sustainability considerations is becoming a critical issue. However, work with quantitative models is still scarce. Our research contributes by revisiting classical inventory models taking sustainability concerns into account. We believe that reducing all aspects of sustainable development to a single objective is not desirable. We thus reformulate single and multi-echelon economic order quantity models as multi-objective problems. These models are then used to study several options such as buyer-supplier coordination or green technology investment. We also consider that firms are becoming increasingly proactive with respect to sustainability. We thus propose to apply multiple criteria decision aid techniques instead of considering sustainability as a constraint. In this sense, the firm may provide preference information about economic, environmental and social tradeoffs and quickly identify a satisfactory solution.

Strategies for Sustainable Supply Chain Management : Supplier Interaction Devices

Fitzgerald, Shannon E., A., Estela Luck, Morgan, Anne L. January 2007 (has links)
In a competitive business environment that requires strategy and innovation to improve the bottom line, supply chain management has been vital in creating competitive advantage. Increasingly, companies are also identifying sustainability as an opportunity to create competitive advantage. This project explores supply chains as a leverage point in advancing sustainable development. Corporations have developed different tools to interact with their suppliers on sustainability. Three of these devices were analyzed against a framework for strategic sustainable development to identify some of their strengths and weaknesses. A general set of criteria for sustainable supply chain management devices that employs a strategic, whole-systems perspective was then developed.

Kommunikationen mellan produktutvecklande modeleverantörer och deras producenter

Wallgren, Esther, Johansson, Lisa, Andersson, Sofia January 2017 (has links)

Stakeholder Management as a Tool for the Implementation of Sustainable Supply Chains in SMEs in the German Food Industry

Schonebeck, Lina, Pöllinger, Theresa January 2020 (has links)
The food industry represents one of the most promising business sectors for sustainable development comprising numerous environmental, social and economic challenges. The industry is fragmented into a multitude of organizations with particular supply chains based within a complex multi-stakeholder environment. Therefore, the organizational goal of creating a sustainable supply chain is experiencing increased attention within research. Even though previous literature has assessed the diverse drivers and barriers impacting sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), the theory of stakeholder management for SSCM has so far barely been recognized. This paper aims to fill this research gap and establishes the connection between the concepts of stakeholder management and SSCM taking into consideration the implicated drivers and barriers. The assessment of prominent drivers and barriers as well as crucial stakeholder groups functions as a basis for the evaluation of possible stakeholder strategies suitable for SSCM. This research study is situated in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the German food industry. By conducting 13 semi-structured interviews with supply chain representatives this study follows a qualitative research approach. The data analysis reveals that SMEs in the German food industry face numerous obstacles in their attempt to implement sustainability within the supply chain. Moreover, it is apparent that current stakeholder strategies are insufficient in the context of supply chain sustainability. A closer network beyond business is considered the most effective strategic objective for the engagement with crucial stakeholder groups in order to enhance the drivers and reduce the impact of existing barriers. Consequently, this thesis provides a theoretical contribution by developing a deeper understanding of stakeholder management as a tool for increasing supply chain sustainability and further advances existing theory with the formation of a new analytical framework as well as the recognition of a novel stakeholder strategy.

Sustainable Innovation in Supply Chain Management within the Food Industry : “By knowing we can suddenly act more proactively”

Svensson, Rebecka, Lodin, Gabriella January 2020 (has links)
Background: Entrepreneurship is dependent on innovation and entrepreneurial activities increase competition. The world is facing many problems concerning sustainability, especially in the food industry. There are challenges such as climate change and ethical issues, and to stay competitive in an industry faced with multiple challenges, a sustainability-driven innovation practice could be one way to do so. The food industry is of great importance to society and although there are research done in the area of sustainable innovation in the food industry there is still a need for clarification on how it can be applied. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to contribute with a deeper understanding and develop further knowledge about sustainable innovation in SSCM within the food industry. Methodology: This study is a single-case study and has a qualitative and abductive approach where data was collected through in-depth semi-structured online interviews. Conclusion: We found in this study that there is a challenge when it comes to getting acceptance and a common understanding of sustainability both externally and internally. We have contributed by shedding light on challenges and solutions concerning sustainability and therefore we have also developed the understanding of the triple bottom line within the food industry. A link was thus found between internal and external sustainability-work with the dissemination of information. Keywords: Sustainability, supply chain management, innovation, entrepreneurship, foodindustry, sustainable supply chain management, sustainable innovation.

CO2 Emissions from Freight Transport and the Impact of Supply Chain Management : A case study at Atlas Copco Industrial Technique

Jofred, Petter, Öster, Peder January 2011 (has links)
Freight transport is a large contributor to emissions of CO2 and to mitigate its environmental impact is essential in strive for a sustainable future. Existing reports usually discuss the issues from a national or global perspective, but rarely provide any concrete or practical information on an organizational level. This report aims to describe the key driving factors of CO2 emissions caused by freight transport and recommend suitable measures for organizations to mitigate their environmental impact. To do this, a case study at Atlas Copco’s business area Industrial Technique (ITBA) is performed, four different business scenarios are created and the emissions from the scenarios are simulated. ITBA is a decentralized organization with most of the production sites and sub suppliers in Europe. Over 90% of the finished goods are sent to a distribution center in Belgium and then delivered to the customers. Today, most customers are located in Europe and this market accounts for nearly 80% of the distributed weight. However, ITBA believe in a strong growth in the North American and Asian markets and that the customer base will look much different in 2020. More customers at longer distances from the distribution center will lead to a heavily increased use of air freight, resulting in higher emission levels. This study shows a clear correlation between the total CO2 emissions and the share of air freight. In order for ITBA to expand their business and at the same time lower their emissions, actions are required. This report shows that a lower share of air freight and the use of several decentralized distribution centers can reduce the emissions significantly. Other means to lower the emissions include relocation of production sites, education to increase the awareness within the organization and including environmental performance when evaluating third party logistics.

Sustainable Supplier Selection and Product Design: A case study of Scania : Towards achieving environmental sustainability

Atofarati, Olayemi Olugbenga January 2021 (has links)
The study examines how a select automobile company implement sustainablepractices in their supply chain management to achieve environmental sustainability. The focus of the study is on the two (2) most important aspects of the supply chainmanagement namely Supplier Selection and Product Design. Supplier selection isvital for 2 reasons; focal companies are increasingly being held account for theenvironmental impacts of their suppliers and more value is generated at the supplystage in the value chain. Product designs are vital because it helps reduce energyconsumption and emissions during the lifecycle (operational/use) of the vehicle. The study finds that the select automobile company has a robust procedure forsupplier selection & development using its Supplier code of conduct, SelfAssessment Questionnaires (SAQ) and a Sustainability Rating system for supplierselection and monitoring supplier compliance with environmental performancegoals. To achieve reduction in emissions from the company’s products in the use phase, the company has developed a range of products which focus on fuel efficiency, powertrains (engine) performance, renewable/alternative fuel sources andelectrified vehicles. These product designs are part of the company’sdecarbonization strategy to reduce emissions from its product use which accountsfor about 90% of the company’s carbon footprints (emissions). These products aredesigned with specific/set environmental goals/targets by working jointly with theScience Based Target Initiative (SBTi). An initiative (by WWF, CDP and WRI)which relies on the most recent climate science to help company achieve itsenvironmental goals while meeting its economic goals as well. The company’sdecarbonization strategy are directly linked to its supplier selection and productdesigns in order to achieve environmental sustainability.Overall, the study finds that the company’s practices are in line with existingliteratures on how to achieve environmental sustainability in Supply ChainManagement, for instance, the frameworks by Matthiavanan (2018) and Masoumi(2019) identified sustainable supplier selection & development, environmentalstandards, auditing suppliers, green/environmental purchasing, innovative productdesigns that reduce emissions & waste which are practices identified in the casecompany. Hence, the study reveals there is a strong link between theory and practicein the Case Company. This study has practical implications as insights provided can help other automobilecompanies address environmental sustainability challenges they face in theirsupplier selection process and product designs.

A qualitative analysis to investigate the enablers of big data analytics that impacts sustainable supply chain / Investigation qualitative des facteurs qui permettent l’analyse de Big Data et la chaîne d’approvisionnement

Rodriguez Pellière, Lineth Arelys 27 August 2019 (has links)
Scholars and practitioners already shown that Big Data and Predictive Analytics also known in the literature as BDPA can play a pivotal role in transforming and improving the functions of sustainable supply chain analytics (SSCA). However, there is limited knowledge about how BDPA can be best leveraged to grow social, environmental and financial performance simultaneously. Therefore, with the knowledge coming from literature around SSCA, it seems that companies still struggled to implement SSCA practices. Researchers agree that is still a need to understand the techniques, tools, and enablers of the basics SSCA for its adoption; this is even more important to integrate BDPA as a strategic asset across business activities. Hence, this study investigates, for instance, what are the enablers of SSCA, and what are the tools and techniques of BDPA that enable the triple bottom line (3BL) of sustainability performances through SCA. The thesis adopted moderate constructionism since understanding of how the enablers of big data impacts sustainable supply chain analytics applications and performances. The thesis also adopted a questionnaire and a case study as a research strategy in order to capture the different perceptions of the people and the company on big data application on sustainable supply chain analytics. The thesis revealed a better insight of the factors that can affect in the adoption of big data on sustainable supply chain analytics. This research was capable to find the factors depending on the variable loadings that impact in the adoption of BDPA for SSCA, tools and techniques that enable decision making through SSCA, and the coefficient of each factor for facilitating or delaying sustainability adoption that wasn’t investigated before. The findings of the thesis suggest that the current tools that companies are using by itself can’t analyses data. The companies need more appropriate tools for the data analysis.

Andersson, Josefine, Kovacs, Karolina January 2023 (has links)
