Modeling Dynamics in Agile Software Development

Cao, Lan 02 November 2005 (has links)
Agile software development challenges the traditional way of software development and project management. In rapidly changing environments, changing requirements and tight schedule constraints require software developers to take a different approach toward the process of software development. However, beyond a few case studies, surveys and studies focused on specific practices such as pair programming, the effectiveness and applicability of agile methods have not been established adequately. The objective of my research is to improve the understanding of and gain insights into these issues. For this purpose, I develop a system dynamic simulation model that considers the complex interdependencies among the variety of practices used in agile development. The model is developed on the basis of an extensive review of the literature as well as quantitative and qualitative data collected from real projects in seven organizations. The development of the model was guided by dynamic hypotheses on customer involvement, refactoring and quality of design. The model was refined and validated using data from independent projects. The model helps in answering important questions on the impact of customer behavior, cost of making changes and economics of pair programming. Experimentation with the model suggests that the cost of change is not constant; instead, its value changes cyclically and increases towards the later phase of development. Also, the results of simulation show that with no pair programming, fewer tasks are delivered and it costs more to deliver a task when compared to development with pair programming. Further, customer behavior has a major impact on project performance. The quality of customer feedback is found to be very critical to the successful of an agile software development project. The primary contribution of this research is the simulation model of agile software development that can be used a tool to examine the impact of agile practices and management policies on critical project variables including project scope, schedule, and cost. This research provides a mechanism to study agile development as a dynamic system of practices rather than using a static view and in isolation. The results from this study are expected to be of significant interest to practitioners of agile methods by providing them a simulation environment to examine the impact of their practices, procedures and management policies.

Zkoumání chování distribučního řetězce na příkladu Beer Game

Hájek, Jiří January 2010 (has links)
The paper examines the behavior of the supply chain through a system dynamic model. The theoretical part presents system dynamics, the Beer game and the simulation environment in which the model was created. In the practical part, the response of five surveyed decision-making order rules on the 4 patterns of demand is analyzed.

Manažerský simulátor pro podporu rozhodování zdravotnického zařízení / Management flight simulator for decision support in health service facility

Veselý, Petr January 2011 (has links)
My thesis aims several objectives. The first goal is to search the theoretical basis of management simulators and health management in order to create an overview of these two topics. Healthcare is an exceptional field, so as I set out to find specifics in health service management. Another aim of my thesis is to create a management simulator using Powersim software. Created management simulator is used as a modeling tool for simulation of processes and behavior of the upper or ward nurse on each shift the focus on utilization of subordinate nurses and supervisors themselves. The simulator is designed as a decision support system. The simulator has been tested and consulted on gastroenterology department of Nemocnice Milosrdných sester sv. Karla Boromejského in Prague. One of the goals is to make accessible the system thinking and its application to management. Using system dynamics approaches to case study to find appropriate recommendations for lower-level management in health care facilities in general. The last objective is the creation of test scenarios to verify the functionality of the simulator and testing hypotheses from which emerges a recommendation for hospital departments.

Bewertung innovativer Geschäftsmodelle: Entwicklung eines Simulationsmodells und Anwendung auf die bedarfsabhängige Funktionserweiterung im vernetzten Fahrzeug: Development of a simulation model and application to the ‘Function on Demand’ concept of the connected car

Ziegenfuss, Katharina 26 April 2021 (has links)
However, due to the complexity of business models, no practically applicable framework, evaluating an innovative business model with regard to its effect on a company’s success, has been established. Hence, a simulation model assessing the value contribution of a business model innovation is developed. Using the mathematical modeling technique ‘System Dynamics’ to frame the value drivers of a business allows for simulation experiments that reveal the effect of the business model’s design on its profitability, therewith guiding policymakers towards better decisions. As a result, the simulation model reports the net present value of a business model. In addition, the success indicators customer lifetime value and the value of the enterprises’ capabilities are identified as important assets that have to be monitored closely as they determine the company’s prospective performance. In combining financial standard calculations with the operationalization of non-financial measures, the simulation model represents a comprehensive approach for business model evaluation.:1 Einführung 2 Geschäftsmodelle und Geschäftsmodellbewertung 3 Entwicklungsprozess des systemdynamischen Geschäftsmodells bedarfsabhängiger Funktionserweiterungen 4 Aufbau des systemdynamischen Geschäftsmodells bedarfsabhängiger Funktionserweiterungen 5 Simulation des systemdynamischen Geschäftsmodells bedarfsabhängiger Funktionserweiterungen 6 Schlussbetrachtung
