A Consumer Premises End User Interface for OSA/Parlay ApplicationsMachethe, Thabo 16 February 2007 (has links)
Student Number : 9812990V -
MSc project report -
School of Electrical Engineering -
Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment / The NGN is a multi-service network which inter-works with the Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN), the voice network and the data network provided by
Internet. Through network independent APIs such as OSA-Parlay, the NGN slowly
migrates and converges Telecoms and IT networks, voice and Internet, into a common
packet infrastructure. The OSA/Parlay group defines a softswitch architecture which
provides network independent APIs or SCFs that enable cross network application
development The Parlay softswitch provides connectivity to underlying transport
networks for application providers. The standard specifies the interaction between
application providers and the softswitch. However, the standard does not specify an
interface to regulate the interaction between service providers and the consumer/end user
domain. This means that applications housed in the service provider domain have no
defined interfaces to manage service delivery to the consumer domain. For most service
providers, the lack of a non-standardized API set impedes efforts to decrease application
creation and deployment time. This research investigates the design and implementation
of a standard consumer interface which can be used by application providers within an
OSA/Parlay system to deliver service content to end users. The main objectives with
regard to the functionality provided by the interface include the integration of facilities
which will assist application providers to manage end user access and authentication (to
enable users to establish a secure context for service usage), subscription (to handle the
subscription life cycle), and service usage management (to enable the initiation and
termination of services). The TINA-Consortium (TINA-C) has developed a service
architecture to support the creation and provisioning of services in the NGN. The TINA
architecture offers a comprehensive set of concepts and principles that can be used in the
design of NGN services. The architecture consists of a set of reusable and interoperable
service components encapsulating a rich and well defined set of APIs aimed at supporting
the interaction between application providers and consumers. TINA’s session concepts,
information structures, interfaces and service components can be used to support the
design of a consumer premises end user interface for OSA/Parlay. This research also
aims to explore the feasibility of using the TINA API within an OSA/Parlay system to
support consumer domain service delivery. In order to implement the consumer interface
for Parlay applications, the ability of the TINA service architecture to provide Access and
Authentication management; Subscription and Profile management; and Service Usage
management was investigated. The report documents the design and implementation of
an OSA/Parlay consumer interface utilizing TINA service components and interfaces.

Seminariet som ateljé? : När forskning blir konst / The seminar as studio? : When research becomes artEngqvist, Jonatan Habib January 2014 (has links)
As higher artistic education explicitly becomes prepatory for research, the next generation of artists will inevitably be affected. How this change will constitute itself and whether the effect will be a reaction against or a product of this change is impossible to know. It is however already clear that artistic research is moving from periphery to centre in the Scandinavian art scene. Thus this pilot study essay asks how one can understand the position of the artwork produced within the context of artistic research: Is it a process, a product, a trace – or a combination of these? Is it possible to map the various layers of meaning produced? What does it mean to claim that art ”produces knowledge”? The essay focuses on three recent PhD´s in artistic research from Sweden. Rather than addressing formal questions of what artistic research is, or how art and research intertwine with each other, the investigation attempts to focus on when artists are making art within the context of artistic research, when they are doing something else.

Volatility & The Black Swan : Investigation of Univariate ARCH-models, HARRV and Implied Volatility in Nasdaq100 amid Covid19Tingstedt, Karl January 2022 (has links)
Covid19 hit the world’s financial markets by surprise in March 2020 and ensuing volatility marked an end to the prior low-volatility environment. This Black Swan engendered numerous publications establishing how the equity market responded to the exogenous shock. However, there is no applicable comparison to Nasdaq100 regarding how models perform during extreme conditions such as ante, amid and post Covid19. Furthermore, goodness of fit together with forecasting accuracy are further examined in the light of new intra-day data from Oxford Man Institute covering this time-period. This thesis presents a comparison of volatility models incorporating economic intuition, sentiment, historical values of volatility and stochastics. By exploiting intra-day at 5 min interval the trade-off between noise and loss of valuable information effectively kept at a minimum yielding considerable robustness to the thesis’ result. Linear ARCH-models, Implied Volatility and HARRV applied with the addition of several different combinations of hold-out periods enable multiple vantagepoints for evaluation. This thesis finds HARRV’s series of one-step ahead prediction of future conditional volatility to be superior throughout all hold-out periods. I am able to present empirical evidence supporting the idea that HARRV’s additive cascades of volatility is superior to sentiment-driven implied volatility and ARCH-models pertaining to Nasdaq100.

Indigenismo in the Mexican Photographs of Tina Modotti: The Revolutionary and the IndigenistaDame, Shannon 10 November 2011 (has links) (PDF)
During Tina Modotti's time in Mexico in the 1920s, much of her photography and political activities focused on and fought for the rights of those who had been previously overlooked and marginalized, namely the indigenous people of Mexico. Many government officials, artists and intellectuals at the time believed that it was through the indigenous culture that Mexico could redeem itself and create its own national identity. Indigenismo, the philosophy that supported this claim, was of interest to Modotti and was a recurring theme throughout her photography. Following the Mexican Revolution of 1910, indigenismo appeared to be the solution to establishing this new identity that was authentically Mexican and distinct from the perceived corruption of Europe and North America. However, the principles of this theory were paradoxical in that proponents supported incorporating indigenous elements into Mexican society, but they also supposed that the only way to recreate the country was by dismissing and destroying these native cultures. Modotti was not as interested in advocating a rebuilding of Mexico as she was in promoting social equality among all races and groups of people in the country, similar to what international Marxism endorsed. Indigenismo to Modotti was more of a way to give voice to the marginalized indigenous people who had been forgotten politically, educationally and artistically for centuries. Through three phases of her photographic career in Mexico—her early phase (which included the Idols Behind Altars project), Mexican Folkways, and her work done in Tehuantepec-we can see how Modotti progressed as an indigenista artist. Although her audience varied in each of these three phases, Modotti's commitment to, and portrayal of, Mexico's indigenous culture was a central unifying theme in her work. This study argues that the photographs of Tina Modotti illustrate her concept of indigenismo by celebrating what she perceived as strong, egalitarian indigenous communities that appealed to her Marxist political philosophy. Modotti sought to counter previous distorted or exaggerated misconceptions of indigenous culture, and she tried to compensate for this lack of authenticity within the Mexican national identity and Mexican art through her photography.

In what sense is Mary a type of the Church? : using two models to illuminate some developments in twentieth century Roman Catholic Mario-ecclesiologyWillis, Sean January 2013 (has links)
This thesis has two aims. Firstly, in order to answer the question, ‘In what sense do people see Mary as a type of the Church?’, this thesis will set up original typological models of the relationship between Mary and the Church (chapter 1). It will then demonstrate how and why an eschatological element came to be present in these models (chapter 2).It will be a contention of this thesis that looking at the Mario-ecclesial discussions set out in chapters 3 and 4 through these typological models will allow a greater depth of analysis. The models allow one to discern differences between and nuances in various views of the relationship between Mary and the Church that would be impossible to discern if one were using just the language of ‘type’. Secondly the thesis will show how each Mario-ecclesial discussion has been affected by the socio-political context of the time. Specifically, the thesis will analyse the Mario-ecclesial discussions of the patristic, medieval and modern periods in the light of the typological models. In chapter 1, the patristic Mario-ecclesiologies of Irenaeus and Ambrose will be considered. In chapter 2, Bernard of Clairvaux will be used to analyse the eschatological nature of the Mario-ecclesiology in the medieval period. In chapter 3, the contrasting Mario-ecclesiologies of the Second Vatican Council and Hans Urs von Balthasar will be compared. In chapter 4, it will be suggested that John Paul’s model of the Mario-ecclesial relationship was based on his eschatological vision for the Church and the role that Mary plays in that future which is both imminent and already realised. This thesis will demonstrate that by using the typological models in these periods a greater depth of analysis can be achieved. This will be particularly true of the complex and nuanced discussions on Mary in the Roman Catholic Church in the twentieth century. This analysis will culminate in the particular Mariology of John Paul II.
