We are the colorful Lord's sheeps!" a sociological analysis about the homosexual experiences in a including church

Coelho Júnior, Carlos Lacerda 14 March 2014 (has links)
This work has the goal of learning about the homosexual experience inside the Inclusive Missionary Church – the first inclusive community of Alagoas located in the district of Poço, in the city of Maceió. Looking at some aspects of a christian morality, this work, through the usage of a case study, problematizes the human conflicts that exist inside the denomination and the process of building of its identity. As of the moral aspect, it is possible to perceive that the speech of the church shows a view of social adequacy, in an attempt of teaching a new perception about the homosexuality. This new perception, a sanctified one, guides the action of the individuals inside this space. The frequent search for social acknowledgment keeps the social actors of this church adapting their actions, all the time, to a christian worldview, reproducing, in many aspects, elements of a heteronormative segment, but meanwhile unlinking themselves from a biological-determinist discourse. Therefore it is possible to see as much elements of control of bodies and behaviors as means of sexual emancipation, especially with the belief of the freedom-of-speech, of the construction of emotional relationships guided by a matter of intimate preference.

It emphasizes a discourse analysis to present theological alternatives which enable homosexual persons to express fully and freely their spirituality in Brazilian Christian communities. The presented research gives an overview of homosexuality in Brazil, showing different aspects, values and movements. A leading question is the homosexual identity, often seen as a perversion, an abnormality, a crime or disease, with consequently a stigma of marginalization and exclusion. Also, the proposed research presents an alternative identity in the search of rights of homosexuals as citizens, both theoretically as well as from a political point of view. We will show in which ways Christianity in Brazil, from a Catholic and Protestant theological perspective, understands homosexuality, including the arguments, teachings and principal postures. From such an analysis, we will identify some theologically viable and legitimate alternatives that enable the homosexual person to express oneself freely in the Christian communities. We will critically analyze gender construction, in its binary reference as masculine / feminine; and deconstruct it because it is detrimental to the understanding of multiplicity and complexity of social identities.

Silvestrin, Julia Mara Pegoraro January 2014 (has links)
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Desportos, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação Física, Florianópolis, 2014. / Made available in DSpace on 2015-03-18T20:45:26Z (GMT).
/ In physical education classes, bodily practices and discourses about them can (re)produce stereotypes of femininity and masculinity and thus reiterate a regime of heteronormativity. In this scheme only a few subjects are intelligible, while others are relegated to abjection. Considering that the bodies, gestures, sexualities are constructed historically, this paper use gender as a category of analysis of historical processes that employ anatomical and physiological differences in explaining social inequalities. To discuss these issues, the present theoretical research has three sources of information: the curriculum proposals for Basic Education in the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul; reports of teaching practices already published in the literature and my professional experiences, written in field diaries and autobiographical narrative. The analysis is focused on the perspective of gender performativity, which is associated to the field of queer studies. Queer theory is used here as an educational perspective that questions of gender and sexuality binarisms - and from there, the entire structure of Western culture - becoming a fruitful field for progress in a non-(hetero)sexist education.

Corpos (trans)formados no cinema

Silva, Caio Ramos da January 2018 (has links)
The present research seeks to undertake a mapping of cinematographic productions, national and international, that deal with transgender characters. From this procedure, we observe the regularities that emerged from this set of productions. We aim to trace a path that inscribes this effort in a micropolitical plan, since it critically questions the communicational and discursive practices of hegemonic cinema. To do so, we explore approximations and tensions provoked by queer studies, considering here it is this set of notions that best account for thinking the trans condition as a displacement that imposes itself on the male / female binary system and, as a consequence, on the sex / gender system . This course, conducted even under a discursive / Foucaultian bias, entails a deep questioning of what constitutes the human being when interrogating biopowers, the limits of the body and the regimes of truth that produce it. Thus, this research is guided by the following question: how are the discourses that produce and express trans bodies in cinema? We start from the analysis of the films Boys Don’t Cry (1999), Tomboy (2011), In a Year of 13 Moons (1978), Tiresia (2003), Wild Side (2004), Vera (1987), Tangerine (2015) and Paris is Burning (1991) to examine observed regularities, assuming that it is possible to interrogate the conditions of possibility of new ways of expressing transgender experiences, in order to configure significant escape lines for audiovisuals.

Sevilla, Gabriela Garcia January 2014 (has links)
Provocative reflections have already been produced in the intersection of gender and sexuality studies (according to post-structuralism perspective) with the education and cultural studies field, which help show the learned character of the ways to be a man and a woman in our society. Gender pedagogies purposed by Guacira Louro were used in this research in order to analyze how different cultural artifacts teach and reiterate particular norms referred to the feminine and the masculine and also how these very artifacts make possible changes and possibilities of norms subversion. Interview analyzes conceived by Laerte, cartoonist who has been gaining media notoriety and visibility due to his ethical, esthetical and political experiences related to gender and sexuality, are purposed, discussing which norm questionings open or reproduce themselves from it through problematisation and multiplication of such concepts as well as the dichotomies fragmentations. This “case” is assumed to be a cultural artifact – Laerte on media – and, therefore, as a privileged place to launch a look about the Brazilian society related to the issues which involve gender, sexuality and body in the media in such extension which generates repercussion and a great interest from the press. It is also because it focuses on a way of life considered “strange”, unusual or even “abnormal”. Thus, it is believed that, once launching our look to the margins, much will be understood about the center and also about the constitution of these boarders and its possible crossings, that is to say, of the transgression and subversion possibilities of the norms which constitute the heteronormative active system.

Mulheres no octógono : performatividades de corpos e de sexualidades

Grespan, Carla Lisboa January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation thematizes women who play sports socially considered masculine, focusing on inclusion of professional fighters in the Mixed Martial Arts and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). It aims to analyze whether performativities of the bodies and sexualities reiterate and / or subvert the discourses on gender relations which permeate the body and sports practices. The theoretical assumptions used to dialogue with the empirical data are the Post-Structuralist theories and, above all, Gender Studies and Queer, since they offer higher academic visibility to issues of social and biotechnological transformation of the body, as well as issues related to gender and sexuality. Within this perspective, the research investigates the articulation of media discourse in the news and comments posted by members of two specific websites: Combate and Tatame. It has the time frame period between hiring women for the UFC, which runs from December 2012 until the last fight of the season in December 2013. The “Map Empirical” was composed of 331 stories and 4174 comments, surveyed on these sites was systematized through Content Analysis and emerged as categories of analysis: the biologicist discourse - that values the representations male / female, man / woman, masculine / feminine based on body anatomical features legitimizing arbitrary attitudes in the production of gendered bodies through social practices; and heteronormativity, understood as the process of normative practices that regulate and dictate a supposed truth about sex and gender to connect the terms sex, gender and desire, building a "matrix of intelligibility." Under the MMA, we found that the arguments of users in relation to the change in the order of "normality" and "naturalness" as the enhancement of the bodies, virilization and masculinization of athletes, cross categories of analysis. Therefore, the analysis visualized how women's access to MMA is permeated by restrictions. Largely relate to the presence of his body, a standardized representation of femininity and heteronormativity. The comments on most posts analyzed include sexist and misogynistic arguments that at the same time eroticize sports performance of the fighters and also disqualify them. Otherwise, there are a number of publications and transphobic lesbophobic character that insist on representing the fighters from the centrality of their bodies which are considered abject and that their presence in the octagon tarnish this sport. These arguments delegitimize recognition of differences, the multiplicities and equity opportunities in this sport.

Queerness e AIDS em As Horas. / Queerness and AIDS in The Hours.

Leonardo Bérenger Alves Carneiro 16 March 2007 (has links)
This thesis is an analysis of new forms of familiar arrangements and the AIDS epidemic as presented in Michael Cunninghams The Hours. In order to discuss familiar experiences in the novel, the characters Laura Brown and Clarissa Vaughan were analyzed in terms of their queer and normative identities, respectively. In reference to the AIDS epidemic, its metaphorical potentiality in literature was discussed, mainly in relation to the character Richard Brown. The contextualization of the syndrome in the American scenario and its impact over the gay community were also examined.

Queer couples in straight America: a study of representations of straight woman/gay man relationships in A home at the end of the world and Will & Grace / Queer couples in straight America: a study of representations of straight woman/gay man relationships in A home at the end of the world and Will & Grace

Tatiana Moura Sandoval 31 March 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to study the queerness of relationships between straight women and gay men in Michael Cunninghams novel A Home at the End of the World and in the TV sitcom Will & Grace. The intention is to analyze such relationships from the point-of-view of the main female characters Clare and Grace, respectively , comparing and contrasting the literary and televisual texts. The theoretical-methodological core of this thesis lies on the concepts of queer theory, based on which the characters and their relationships have been analyzed. However, as it establishes a dialog between a literary work and a TV show, a theoretical chapter on television theory has been added. While providing an overview of television theory, this chapter has also been really relevant in the discussion of Will & Grace. Through a deeper study of queer theory, one realizes that queerness, instead of a fixed identity, may be better understood as an attitude of resistance to heteropatriarchal social rules. Therefore, in spite of Graces and Clares conventional aspirations, they both act queerly in several situations, proving that queerness is a positionality which everyone may assume; even straight people

Beatin' the queer into the broadsheets

The data of this thesis is composed of fifteen news reports retrieved from the British news website Mail Online (the online version of the British tabloid Daily Mail) and from the Brazilian news website G1. These news reports concerned three different cases: the Dewani Case in the United Kingdom, and the Veronica and Lamp Cases in Brazil. The verbal language of the news reports was analyzed in terms of the representation of social actors (van Leeuwen, 2008), Systemic Functional Grammar (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2014) and Appraisal Theory (Martin & White, 2014). In order to conduct a multimodal analysis of the visual resources present in the news reports, I used multimodal tools of analysis (Machin, 2007) and categories from the Grammar of Visual Design (Kress & van Leeuwen, 1996). The findings of this thesis point to partiality and manipulation on the part of the media when it comes to supporting one of the sides involved in crimes, especially in the case of queer criminals. These social actors have their non-normative sexuality/gender identity represented as a core part of their criminal identity. Through these representations, the media also reinforces bias and reproduces prejudicial discourses regarding queerness, a group of identities that compose an always already zone of abjection.

Francesconi, Luiza Helena Kraemer, 1975- January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to discuss and investigate the association of studies in opera, especially of breeches roles, to gender studies. To do so, through my experience with these characters, I raise questions that lead to the study of this facet of the opera world and its relation to social practices within Western culture. I stablish a historical review of breeches roles, based specially on the works of Naomi Andre and Thomas Laqueur, and I discuss the theories of gender that underlie this work. In addition, I analyze the results of semi-structured interviews with ten Brazilian female singers who have performed this type of role, in order to investigate how these women feel on stage when playing male characters. I use a combination of gender theories - especially that of Judith Butler - to the performance in opera to examine the subjectivity of the singers, the public and also to suggest a new perspective of approach of breeches roles in opera, which can be used by interpreters, stage directors and can also be used by opera scholars in future works / Resumen: El objetivo de esta disertación es discutir e investigar la asociación de estudios en ópera, en especial de los papeles en calzones, a estudios de género.
