Theoretical and experimental study of the role of the reed in clarinet playing / Étude théorique et expérimentale du rôle de l’anche dans le jeu de la clarinette

Taillard, Pierre-André 02 July 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the acoustics of the clarinet and the role of the reed, summarizing studies carried out between 2001 and 2018 on various topics : I) Study of elementary analytical models, focused on 1) role of losses. 2) iterated maps, highlighting various operating regimes, which are also useful for the instrumental pedagogy. II) Reed characterization study : 1) Dynamic study of the reed resonances, by holography. It leads to a model of viscoelastic material explaining some differences observed in the frequencies of the first 15 modes of the reed. 2) Static study of the mechanical and aeraulic characteristics of the exciter (reed + mouthpiece + lip). The method accurately measures the airflow entering the instrument as a function of lip and air pressure. III) Sound synthesis by physical model in real time : 1) Mechanical and aeraulic modeling of the reed, according to measurements. The proposed nonlinear stiffening spring model allows for an efficient dynamic simulation. 2) Modal estimation of the (measured) input impedance of wind instruments. Design techniques for accurate digital filters, passive at any frequency, are described. 3) Modal estimation and simulation of wind instruments by waveguides, implemented in C ++ software. IV) A playability study of a panel of 40 reeds by canonical correlation analysis reveals statistically strong links between physical measurements, subjective evaluations and sound synthesis. It allows a characterization of the reeds that can be made by the manufacturer, according to at least 4 independent factors.

Band gaps and waveguiding of surface acoustic waves in pillars-based phononics crystals / Bandes interdites et propagation d'ondes guidées de surface dans un cristal phononique à résonance locale

Al lethawe, Mohammed abdulridha 18 December 2015 (has links)
[...] We present the features of the interaction between surface acoustic wave and locally resonant pillar on the top of demi infinite medium. We shown that the photonic crystal we proposed possess an acoustic metamaterial feature for surface acoustic waves in the manner that pillars on the top of the surface introduce new guide modes in the non radiative region of the substrate outside sound cone. We also demonstrate the these guided modes are resonant modes that have frequencies greatly lower than those expected from the Bragg mechanism. […]

Tomographie acoustique océanique en guide d'ondes : de l'utilisation des temps à celle des angles / Ocean acoustic tomography in waveguides : from the use of travel-times to the use of angles.

Aulanier, Florian 09 December 2013 (has links)
In the ocean, temperature changes induce sound-speed perturbations. Ocean acoustic tomography uses the fluctuations of recorded acoustic signals, to map those sound-speed perturbations. To this end, sound-speed perturbations are classically related to the acoustic-wave travel-times measured on the records. This study suggests an alternative method to perform acoustic thermometry based on acoustic-wave propagation directions. It allows imaging a shallow-water waveguide (~100 m), at small scale (1 to 10 km), with high spatial resolution (10 m in range, 2 m in depth). In this context, wideband (~1.5 kHz) low frequency (~1 kHz) acoustic waves propagates along multiple paths similar to spatially « fat » geometrical rays. Using a pair of arrays (source/receiver) and the double-beamforming processing to separate acoustic signals coming from different paths and measure their: travel-time (TT), directions-of-arrival (DOA) and directions-of-departure (DOD). Under the hypothesis of small perturbations, TP, DOA and DOD variations are linearly related to sound-speed perturbations in an analytical way. This formulation based on Born's diffraction physics at the first order uses kernel functions called: the time-angle sensitivity kernels (T-A-SK). The T-A-SK model is then combined to classical inversion methods to retrieve sound-speed perturbations from TT, DOA and DOD variations. The methods developed here have been validated on simulated data, and applied on real small-scale data coming from the ultrasonic tank of the ISTerre, Grenoble.

Regardless of the type of intervention, the actors involved are responsible for keeping the public interest and warrant that the intervention will not occur tighter than necessary. And the intervention must be performed pursuing quality and efficiency. The main issue is related to the intervention of the Government through the 'Superintendência de Seguros Privados' (Susep), authority that received from the Ministry of Financy the competency related to the control, regulation and supervision of important institutions: insurance/reinsurance companies, open private pension funds and capitalization entities. In this context, the monograph has focus on the extrajudicial liquidation, kind of intervention that occurs when there are signs of economic, financial, management crises or insolvency in the company. Susep delegates the procedures to the liquidator and supervises the process, whose focus must be the payments to creditors. It has been observed low efficiency in the management of the entities in liquidation, which in relevant part is due to the lack of guidelines for the preparation of the new Liquidator's Guide able to motivate efficient practices. Then the purpose herein is propose these guidelines. The research methodology is based on literature review, the collection and analysis of liquidators and experts’ opinion. The research will include the way some national or international authorities deal with the liquidation. We believe that the issue has great social relevance, because inefficiencies in such interventions can harm creditors, shareholders and generate waste of time and government ´s resources during the supervision of the liquidation. At the end of the monograph, we show the result: the proposed guidelines for the preparation of the new Liquidator's Guide.

Bestbier, Anna Maria 30 November 2005 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The Gestalt Play Therapeutic approach is used as contextual frame in this research where-in music is applied as an aid for the aggressive emotions of the primary learner. Emotional and behavioral problems in children in primary and secondary schools and even in pre-primary schools, are assuming alarming proportions. From the holistic approach of the Gestalt theory, it has an influence on the development of areas such as the emotional, physical, cognitive and social in the phase of middle childhood. There is a lack of research findings on the effect of music during support to the aggressive primary learner within a Gestalt Play Therapeutic frame. The experimental single system design was used as research method as part of the quantitative investigation. The conclusion is that music was used successfully in the handling of rage and aggressive emotions in the group of child respondents within the context of the Gestalt approach. / Social Work / M.Diac.
