A descriptive analysis of first term attrition from U.S. Naval shipsCarlson, Carl Glynn 09 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / This thesis was conducted to analyze certain factors affecting first-term attrition from U.S. Naval ships. The Survival Tracking File (STF) was used as the primary data source, and from it files were constructed that permitted three areas of study. First, the overall cohort of a year's worth of enlistees was examined. The survival curve for the cohort was generated and individual monthly cohorts were examined for attrition patterns. Secondly, overall attrition percentages were calculated for individual ships and for classes of ships and these attrition percentages were then examined for differences using statistical techniques. An ANOVA model using transformed data proved accurate in explaining attrition variance. Lastly, a comparison between attrition per month and underway hours per month was made for classes of ships and for individual ships of three specific classes. A rough relationship was observed, between peaks of high underway hours and peaks of attrition. In looking at individual aircraft carriers, the attrition percentage seemed to be inversely proportional to underway hours per month. Several of these findings warrant further investigation so that the Navy may more fully understand its attrition problem and thereby take steps to alleviate it. / http://archive.org/details/descriptiveanaly00carl / Lieutenant, United States Navy

Sex timmars arbetsdag : Hur påverkas personalens psykiska och fysiska hälsa? / How is the mental and physical health of staff affected?Sylvén, Annika January 2018 (has links)
Background: In today's society, media is writing a lot about reduction of hours of work. Working for six hours but getting paid for eight hours workday is something that aroused many people's interest. In 1973, working hours were regulated to 40 hours per working week, since then no further statutory change has taken place. It therefore feels relevant to investigate how reduction of hours of work affects the mental and physical health of the individual in order for the staff and employers to understand the positive and negative aspects that it may lead to. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to survey the staff's impact of a reduction of hours of work, six hours working day, from workers perspective. Method: For this essay triangulation has been used as a method. Where quantitative data has been collected through an attitudes survey conducted through a survey. Qualitative data has been collected in addition to this survey through 13 telephone interviews. Other material has been collected through literature and scientific articles. Conclusion: The study shows that six hours workday tends to give the staff many positive gains in terms of improved quality of life by improving the respondents' health after six hours of working day. For this study, it is concluded that most respondents in this survey have a positive experience over six hours of working day.

Blood, Tears, and Wounded Eyes: Holy Effluvia and the Compassion of the Virgin in Early Modern Flemish Visual and Devotional CultureBekker, Katharine Grace Davidson 15 April 2022 (has links)
Images of the Mater dolorosa, the weeping Mother of God mourning over her dead son, are plentiful art of Northern Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and often foreground the shedding of effluvia—blood, sweat, and tears—in their depictions of the holy pair. This paper explores the visual themes of tears, blood, eyes, and wounds as vital actors in images that require close, meditative, and affective looking and engagement. Such image formats include small-scale pairings of the Man of Sorrows and Mater dolorosa as well as books of hours. In these contexts, the holy fluids and their bodily sources expand the images' narratives and allow for greater exegesis of their devotional prompts. This phenomenon of expansion via effluvia occurs throughout Flemish devotional culture of this period; this paper uses Albrecht Bouts's diptych panels of the Mater dolorosa and Man of Sorrows, produced between 1490 and 1525, as the chief case study to encapsulate and ground those ideas while still acknowledging that they also apply beyond this image. Considering the widespread commonalities between blood and tears in visual and textual representations of the early modern Flemish devotional culture and the visual similarities between weeping eyes and bleeding wounds, this paper argues that Mary's eyes act as the external manifestations of her internal wounds and become locus of her Compassion for Christ. Furthermore, pictorial blood and tears function as metonymic devices that, like the Man of Sorrows type, invoke the entirety of the Passion and Compassion. The multivalent functions of the blood and tears in Bouts's diptych expand it beyond just a representation of Mary and her son and allow it to become a window and mirror into which viewers could look to engage in penance and communion with Mary and Christ.

Cómo Convertir de Galones a Pulgadas, y Determinar el Tiempo de Operación Para los Sistemas de Riego por Goteo en Cultivos en Surcos (Spanish)Martin, Edward, Baretto, Armando 05 1900 (has links)
4 pp. / Converting from Gallons -- to Inches -- to Runtime Hours for Row Crop Drip Irrigation Systems / Many growers in Arizona are switching from surface to drip irrigation. This change requires many changes in water management. One of the changes that growers are having the most difficulty with is the concept of applying gallons of water instead of inches. This paper helps growers make this conversion from inches to gallons and then back again. An accompanying EXCEL program, available on the web, will help growers determine run times and application amounts.

Improving the organisational and social work environment : A case study in Swedish construction industryRydell, Martin January 2016 (has links)
Our physical, social and mental health are all important for our wellbeing and no one should feel ill or mistreated because of their work situation. Despite this, an increasing number of people are suffering from unhealthy workload or victimization at work. Mental illness is an increasing problem and cost society around 70 billion SEK each year, 50 % of which can be related to loss in production caused by sick-leave. In addition to the immeasurable human costs, Sweden now faces one of its greatest challenges in modern time. In order to counteract this development, the Swedish Work Environmental Authority released new provisions regarding the organisational and social work environment called AFS 2015:4 which are aimed at all activities where an employee perform work on the employers account. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of difficulties and possibilities when revising current work practices to fulfil the provisions. The thesis uses a case study approach taking place in an organisation within Svevia, a Swedish construction company, using a literature review, a document analysis, interviews and a questionnaire. The findings indicate that even though the organisation had major efforts put into their work environment management, there were improvements to be made regarding the organisational and social work environment. Furthermore, what can be improved and how the organisation can support the improvements to fulfill the provisions and work towards a better work environment is concluded. The results are of great practical use not only to the case organisation but to all organisations similar in nature.

Application dans le Val-de-Marne / Mobile general pratictioners for out-of-hours home visits missionned by the SAMU-Centre 15 : interest of a digital optimization model. Application in the French Val-de-Marne districtHeidet, Matthieu 27 May 2019 (has links)
During out-of-hours times, mobile general practitioners (GPs), appointed by the SAMU - Centre 15 (French public emergency call center), can provide out-of-hours home visits (OOH-HV).The order in which these visits are carried out is based on an intuitive model, i.e. the shortest path problem, and determined according to the degree of urgency established at the time of the call to the SAMU - Centre 15 and the knowledge of the sector by the mobile GP. Maintaining timelines consistent with the medical need thus depends on the flow of visits and the GP’s response times. However, this transit time depends in particular on the number of available GPs and traffic conditions. Existing models for routing optimization are inapplicable to OOH-HV, due to the continuous updating of the list of visits to be carried out, as well as the weighting of the target time by the degree of urgency. We therefore propose to create a specific model for the optimization of the mobile GPs’ sent by the SAMU-Centre 15. We develop an evolutionary meta-heuristic of the genetic algorithm type, whose computational performances we first compare with those of an exact method of integer linear optimization (non evolutionary combinatorial optimization method), on theoretical data, integrating the clinical data (3 degrees of priority of visit), operational constraints data (mobile GPs’ fleet size) and response times objectives (3 target effection times). The objectives of this work are to show that the genetic algorithm, compared to the integer linear method, leads to a reduction in mobile GPs visit completion times, to a greater respect of the deadlines of target outcomes, as well as an increase in the number of patients seen per time unit (GPs time slot). Our results suggest that the genetic algorithm is more efficient than the integer linear method on all established criteria, and that its performances improve with the complexity of the problem to be solved (number of patients to visit, size of mobile GPs’ fleet). The use of the optimization method developed in this work could enable the SAMU-Centres 15 to improve the service provided to the population, in terms of efficiency, safety and quality of access to care.
