The research studies social sciences, based on Pierre Bourdieu´s sociological theory, in order to construct them theoretically and methodologically as academical social space bounded to the academical field, that is, as professional acting locus of a group of agents with common conceptions, objectives and interests, simultaneously differentiated from participants from other sciences, and distinct from each other. Its goal is to understand the ways in which the specific character of the contest for scientific authority in the academical social space of social sciences, with its explicit and embedded operating rules, configures the character of disputes concerning the recent process of institutionalization of sociology compulsory education in high school (1997-2008), particularly with regard to relations and representations of Amaury Moraes, Elisabeth Guimarães, Heloísa Martins, Ileizi Silva, Lejeune de Carvalho, Nelson Tomazi e Sueli Mendonça, social scientists pioneers in defense of this institutionalization. To accomplish this intent, I build a history of the constitution of academical social space in Brazil, adopting as a time frame the year of 1964, and the subsequent deployment, by military governments, of an educational policy focused on the institutionalization of postgraduate and on the centrality of funding agencies to the country's science and technology sector, reflecting about the impact of these to the area of social sciences and its members, and to the gradual appreciation of certain forms of scientific work and of how to make yourself a scientist in this social space, entailed by those practices. After, based on the analysis of curriculum Lattes organization, and of data obtained on virtual platforms of Capes and CNPq, I outline the structure of this social space, indicating the main instruments and strategies for the acquisition of scientific capital, and identifying the dominant agents and institutions, as well as the positions occupied by the agents and institutions involved with the teaching of sociology. I realize a study of academical trajectories of the studied subjects, analyzing the symbolic capital held by them in the social space and its relation with the defense of the teaching sociology, and elaborate, based on semi-structured interviews with each of them, a sort of historical of the process of institutionalization in which they participated, emphasizing their involvement and the network of personal and institutional relationships that gradually constituted, as well as their conceptions about their actions and relationships regards to them. I analyze the resistance to teaching sociology and internal disputes to the group dedicated to its study and implementation, understanding the dominant representations concerning this teaching and the meanings of being a social scientist in the academical social space of the social sciences.

January 2005 (has links)
Orientador: Raul Borges Guimarães / Banca: Alice Yatiyo Asari. Neste caso, a criação do slogan "Cianorte: Capital do Vestuário",...(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo). / Abstract: We carried out in this work a study focused on the analysis of the clothing industry development in Cianorte, PR, taking it as an inductor of production and articulation among geographic scales. Cianorte has a strong industrialisation process based on the clothing field, especially since the 1980s, as a way to face the economic crises of an agricultural economy which was predominant in that time. To understand how this functional transformation process happened in Cianorte is one of the questions that motivated the development of this work. Therefore, we analysed the transformation process of the industrial organisation in the area to be researched, bringing back how its insertion in the system of flexible accumulation happened, besides discussing the creation and articulation process among the geographic scales, taking the clothing industry of Cianorte as an element of articulation between the local and the global space. The transformations in the urban space of Cianorte which have been linked to this recent process of industrial specialisation in the clothing field is also a focus for analysis in this work. From the idea of "synthesis of multiple scales", we try to value the role taken by the social relations of cooperation/ competition among the privileged actors in that local reality, so as to check the implications that link the clothing industry as an economic process and its spatial consequences in Cianorte. In this case, the creation of the slogan "Cianorte: capital of clothing", of Expovest and wholesale shopping centres, has to be taken as a result of a struggle of interests...(Complete abstract, click electronic address below). / Mestre

Fonseca, Luciana Marson January 2006 (has links)
This is a comparative study between two areas of night entertainment, located in two very different neigbourhoods in the city of Porto Alegre: the rather aristocratic Moinhos de Vento and the old popular, bohemian, and at the present very fashionable Cidade Baixa. At its starting point lies the interest in looking for the reasons behind the migration of costumers from Moinhos de Vento toward bars and other similar places in Cidade Baixa, that has been taken place of late. The study works with both social and spatial variables, looking for relations between the socio economic profile of habitués and migrants, the spatial settings where their interaction takes place and their patterns of socio-spatial behaviour– which places they tend to choose, the reasons for that, if they use to go there by themselves or in groups, if they like to be inside or outside the bars, and so on. In order to do that four differentiated sub-areas were identified in each neigbourhood, according to the kind of entertainment, locals and types of customers they offer. Data evidence shows that the socioeconomic profile as well as the spatial choices and behaviour of habitués and migrants from both neirbourhoods present no such differences so as to account for the migration from the aristocratic Moinhos de Vento toward the underground scene of Cidade Baixa. Nevertheless, it seems that the degree of homogeneity in the options for entertainment in Moinhos de Vento in comparison to the multiplicity of choices in Cidade Baixa, pointed out to diversity as the possible main factor behind the migratory movement.

Changement dans la construction sociale de la production alimentaire localisée : analyse à partir du cas drômois / Social change in the construction of local food production : analysis case with the Drôme

Fiamor, Anne-Emmanuelle 24 October 2014 (has links)
This research emanates from a field survey we conducted in the Department of Drôme, France, which deals with the analysis of a variety of valorization methods of local food productions we sought to explain. Local food productions are a traditional production rooted in time and space, regardless the organizational and strategic variety of valorization methods. In the Drôme territory, we found a variety of productions and a variety of organizational and strategic valorization methods. But those patterns are not sufficient to explain what we observed in the field. We observed also another form of reference to location of these productions than only the reference to tradition. From there, in addition to the analysis of the organizational diversity of valorization methods of local food production in Drôme, the characterization of a new form of reference to location of production we spotted is the main issue of this research. To analyze the organizational and symbolic diversity, we conceptualize the valorization methods as systems of domination (in the sense of Max Weber). Indeed, the system and the strategy of valorization are pointed out as well as the shape of the legitimacy on which the social significance of the production is expressed. In this framework, we analyzed six variations of localization types by reference to tradition and one emergent way of localizing productions. This last is assessed through the fact that productions are produced, processed and sold locally by small local farmers, often neo-rural, according to production knowledge and expertise, processing and selling organization built through sharing and selling networks constructed among these farmers. These networks, either formal or informal, are either created through agricultural associations, or either were built autonomously. In this framework, each farmer aims to produce and sell, but also to “build a community” while keeping its independence from peers and institutional actors. Therefore, these farmers, through their relationships to the production and to their community, induce the emergence of knowledge and know-how rooted in “here and now” cultural bedrock crystallized in the representation of the small local farmer

Literatura, geografia e modernização social. Espaço, alienação e morte na literatura moderna / Literature, geography and social modernization: spaces alienation and death in modern literature

Claudio Roberto Duarte 14 March 2011 (has links)
The thesis intends to analyse the relationships between Modern Literature, Geography, and Society within the process of social modernization, through the study of six writers: Charles Baudelaire, Machado de Assis, Joseph Conrad, Franz Kafka, Carlos Drummond de Andrade and João Antônio. This itinerary aims to show how social modernization, producing forms of abstract social space (Lefebvre) related to the capitalist process of accumulation, is literarily mimetized and reconstructed by these writers. The modernization process appears then as imposition of abstract labor and, in its crisis, as a state of exception, thematized by literature in three interconnected but non-identical spatial levels: at the level of the conceived (by politics and ideologies), of the perceived (praxis in everyday life), and of lived experiences (in subjective singularities, in the limits of the unconscious). Thus, Literature appears as cognitive mapping of modern social and spatial processes.

Cybernetic Social Space : A Theoretical Comparison of Mediating Spaces in Digital Culture / Det Cybernetiska Sociala Rummet : En Teoretisk Jämförelse av Medlande Rum i Digital Kultur

Antman, Benjamin January 2014 (has links)
This essay does a theoretical comparison of the intricate social production in digital and real spaces, proposing a model for the non-technical exploration of the social production of spaces relating to human digital technology. The ‘social space’ proposed by Henri Lefebvre (1974) - responsible for producing material space - and the holistic model of ‘cybernetic space’ proposed by Ananda Mitra and Rae Lynn Schwartz (2001) - responsible for supporting the production of real and digital spaces - are argued as collaboratively producing cybernetic social spaces, serving as the definition of a unified model for the production of spaces in contemporary society. The digital spaces are argued as being a similar analogue to classical ‘social space’. Two native cybernetic spaces are presented and discussed, argued as being responsible for the transitive production of digital and real spaces as they survey and situate the production of cybernetic social space. Finally, two case studies exemplifying the aesthetics and politics of cybernetic space are presented, analyzed and discussed in accordance with the proposed model of cybernetic social space.

Projects-to-think-with and projects-to-talk with: how adult learners experience project-based learning in an online course

Chen, Huei-Lien January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Secondary Education / Diane McGrath / In many college of education programs, the feasibility of online courses has provided opportunities for in-service teachers who are pursuing a higher educational goal while working full-time with school and/or family responsibilities. Although preliminary evidence on project-based learning (PBL) in traditional classrooms with younger learners suggests that students are highly motivated, it is not clear whether adult learners recognize the value of the online PBL approach. This study documented adult learners’ learning experience with online projects, their collaborative experience, and their learning experience with technological tools. The result of this study can contribute to our understanding of the strengths and the obstacles in an online PBL environment. Nineteen participants who registered in a graduate level course participated in this case study over a 16-week semester. They collaborated in small group of 2–5 members in order to communicate and construct projects at a distance. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected and interpreted based on a descriptive case study design. Multiple sources of data include course documentation, archival data from course management system, student-created projects, surveys, and interviews. A model for content analysis of CMC was applied to qualitative analysis of the electronic discourse. Findings of this study indicated that participants gained positive experience in this new way of learning. In particular, three themes related to online PBL approach emerged: (1) project relevancy and authenticity as the primary concerns in guiding driving question, researching information, and constructing artifact; (2) synchronicity is indispensable for online collaboration; and (3) repeated exposures with technology tools reduce the fear and reinforce the skill to be learned.
