Strategies Retail Managers Use to Reduce Employee TurnoverLove, Sharon Belinda 01 January 2019 (has links)
Retailers lost 5.1 million employees in 2016, which resulted in a loss of profitability. The purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies retail managers used to reduce turnover at one retail company in the southeastern United States. The conceptual framework for the study was transformational leadership. The target population consisted of 6 store managers who reduced employee turnover in the retail industry. Data collection methods included face-to-face, semistructured interviews and a review of the company documents. Yin's 5-step analysis was used to analyze data. Three themes emerged from data analysis: supportive management leadership style, competitive compensations, and provision of efficient and effective communications to employees. The results of the study indicated store managers' strategies that are essential to reducing employee turnover. The implications of this study for social change include the potential to generate new opportunities for employment and encourage prosperity for local families and the community by improving profitability and sustainability and promoting organizational growth in retail companies.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the transformational and
transactional leadership characteristics of intercollegiate athletes and non athletes.
The second purpose was to compare transformational and transactional leadership
characteristics in athletes and non-athletes.
In this study, 152 subjects were selected from seven different universities.
Data was collected through Turkish version of Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire
(MLQ) - Leader Form (Form 5X-Short).
Quantitative statistical analyses using SPSS confirmed the study' / s first and
second hypothesis through and independent samples t-test that the intercollegiate
athletes scored statistically higher on the MLQ (Multifactor Leadership
Questionnaire) 5X-Short than the non-athlete university students. MLQ 5X-Short
scores were subjected to t-test using the athlete2s gender, sport activity, team
membership, weekly exercise days, exercise in yearly based time. The test variables
were transformational and transactional leadership behaviors and subscales of them,
the grouping variables were intercollegiate athletes and non-athletes. Two out of
three Leadership behaviors were statistically significant when comparing
intercollegiate athletes and non athletes.

Leadership Styles Manufacturing Business Managers Use to Reduce Workplace InjuriesSparks, Joe 01 January 2018 (has links)
The cost of workplace injuries is a major concern for business managers. Business managers in the production, transportation, and material moving industries experience the highest injury rate with an annual average of 198.5 lost days away from work. The purpose of this single case study was to explore transformational leadership skills and strategies used by manufacturing business managers to reduce workplace injuries. The conceptual framework for this study was Bass and Burns's transformational leadership theory. Data collection included semistructured interviews to elicit narratives from 3 managers from a metal manufacturing company located in the southeastern United States about the leadership strategies they used to reduce workplace injuries. Data analysis consisted of coding and using Yin's 5-step data analysis technique to analyze interview data and information from relevant company documents to identify key themes and triangulate data. From the data analysis, the themes of communication, training, and equipment/tools emerged as methods to reduce workplace injuries. The findings and recommendations from this study might assist business managers who desire information to influence the safety culture of their organizations. Social change implications include helping business managers to improve their organizational safety reputation with the workers and the community. A positive reputation would lead to an increase in community and political support for the organization that will lead to new contracts creating future employment opportunities.

The leadership practices of heads of department in the implementation of physical development activities in primary schoolsMahlobogoane, Modirwadi Mavis January 2013 (has links)
Reforms that have taken place in the South African education system since 1994 have led to changes in terms of how learning areas are taught in schools. There have been changes regarding the teaching of physical development activities in schools in recent years. Physical education as a subject was infused within life orientation (LO) as a learning area with physical development activities as one of the outcomes. The time to teach physical development activities has been reduced as other learning outcomes within LO have to be taught. This has led to situations where the teaching of physical development activities is undermined in many schools. Pressure to perform well in learning areas such as mathematics and literacy makes educators to devote less time on the teaching of physical development activities. To a larger extent, financial resources on the other hand, are being directed to other learning areas due to pressure to conform to international education standards. There is a need for school leaders to respond to new conditions of teaching. This research project deals with the leadership practices of heads of department (HODs) in the implementation of physical development activities. The study aims to investigate how HODs lead and manage the educators who teach physical development activities. Among other things, the study will focus on the HODs‟ leadership styles relevant to the teaching of physical development activities. The study will also look at challenges they experience in their departments, training needs and how they keep balance between teaching and monitoring educators who teach physical development activities.
The researcher used qualitative research approach to collect information for the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with two HODs and four educators in two primary schools. The findings indicate that lack of experience and specialisation in the teaching of physical development activities has an influence on the HODs leadership style. More support is needed in the teaching of physical development activities in order to boost the confidence of those who are teaching this part of the learning area. Deployment of staff members to the relevant positions is one of the priority areas. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate how leadership is applied in a successful e-commerce company with a Customer Experience focus. This thesis is conducted throughout a qualitative single case study of a successful e-commerce company focusing on customer experience(s). The empirical findings have been obtained through semi-structured interviews, which further have been analysed together with the given theories to gain an in-depth understanding to answer the research question (1) How does leadership manifest itself in an e-commerce company? Furthermore, the sub-question (a) Which leadership styles can be identified within the e-commerce company. The conclusion of this thesis presents the importance of having leadership connected to the corporate culture. This includes considering the culture in all decisions within the company and that leaders and employees live by the company’s values. This thesis presents leaders within the case company applying several attributes of different leadership styles. However, the primary leadership style that has been identified throughout all leaders is transformational leadership, including being a digital leader.
