Implementation of simulator based continuation training for Swedish ATS-units / Implementering av simulatorbaserad kompetenssäkring för Svenska ATS-Enheter

Hansson, Alexander, Morän, Martin January 2017 (has links)

Supporting Strategic Decisions for Operational Changes through the use of Discrete Event Simulation : A Case Study in Production Scheduling at AstraZeneca

Ansari, Ali, Freiberg, Emanuel January 2017 (has links)
In recent years, market competitiveness exerts more pressure on process industries to increase their number of products, reduce order sizes and shorten delivery lead time. This causes an expansion of order enquiries from customers, which leads to an insufficient use of scheduling and planning systems to meet these changes. This force process industries to adopt other tools, such as Discrete Event Simulation for supporting their strategic decisions to align with these operational changes.   The objective of this thesis is to understand how Discrete Event Simulation supports strategic decisions prior to the implementation of operational changes in process industries. Therefore, a case study in the pharmaceutical industry was conducted at AstraZeneca, Södertälje. Discrete Event Simulation was used as a tool to support the strategic decision of implementing the Product Wheel technique as an operational change. Simultaneously, a theoretical review was carried out to investigate types of strategic decisions which can be supported by Discrete Event Simulation use in process industries. Then, contributions and challenges of Discrete Event Simulation use for supporting strategic decisions for operational changes were clarified.    The empirical results indicate the importance of Discrete Event Simulation in supporting deliverability as a competitive priority to AstraZeneca, followed by flexibility and cost as second and third competitive priorities. The analysis also identified the contribution of Discrete Event Simulation in supporting long-term decisions in the company by providing analytical solutions in different scenarios, dynamic visualization and increased knowledge about the simulated operational change. Additionally, two main challenges in the use of Discrete Event Simulation for supporting strategic decision are identified. First, Discrete Event Simulation was not suitable for supporting all kinds of competitive priorities such as quality, environment and innovation. Second, the direction of the communication between the Discrete Event Simulation use and the strategic decisions differs.      A framework is developed to facilitate the use of Discrete Event Simulation for supporting strategic decisions prior to implementing the Product Wheel technique as an operational change. This framework provides a guideline to identify the range of contributions from Discrete Event Simulation use for supporting different types of competitive priorities prior to the implementation of the Product Wheel method. Generally, Discrete Event Simulation could be a useful tool for supporting deliverability, cost and flexibility by implementing the Product Wheel technique, while it has a limited capability when dealing with other strategic decisions such as quality, innovation and environment.

Using Deep Learning to Predict Back Orders : A study in the Volvo Group Aftermarket Supply Chain

Bouganim, Jakob, Olsson, Konrad January 2019 (has links)
The aftermarket holds a vital role in the Volvo Group value offer. Producing profitability by satisfying the customers needs for important spare parts, ensuring maximum uptime for the entire range of vehicles produced and sold. As the cost for keeping stock exponentially increases with a higher availability, the availability can never be 100%. This in effect means that there will be occasions where an order is placed on a part that is currently not in stock, creating a back order. And while not all of these back orders can be avoided completely, predicting them before they occur will allow for preemptive measures to be taken, potentially reducing lead times and costs. Deep learning is a sub-section of machine learning, the study of methods to make computers find complex patterns in data. Deep learning has had an increase in popularity as the computational power and available data has greatly increased in recent years and is something that Volvo sees potential in. This creates the aim of this study which is to develop a deep learning model to predict the occurrence of back orders. In order to fulfill this aim, two main research questions were formed. The first research question intends to find underlying causes and factors that can explain the occurrence of back orders, in order to create the input features that the model can be trained on. This was initiated with a basis in literature, where a theoretical framework was created from different areas in the field of logistics as well as previous studies that combine logistics and machine learning. After this an empirical study was conducted where four previous initiatives from Volvo were found, that aim to explain the occurrence of back orders. As this was concluded, the findings were combined and synthesized into a list of factors that explain the underlying causes of back orders. In the second research question the factors listed were translated into input features of the model, where all quantifiable factors that could be and located in the Volvo database were included. This created the data set used to train the deep learning model to predict back orders. After the feature creation was completed, the actual design and development of the model could commence. Based on literature concerning deep learning along with directives from Volvo, a deep recurrent neural network was developed. The exact size and shape of the model was varied and evaluated to find the best performance. Evaluating the results showed several interesting findings. After training the model on one year of weekly data for 20 000 part numbers, the model proved to be skillful in predicting the occurrence of back orders. The model was able to predict 73% of back orders one week before they occurred (recall), and 72% of what the model deemed to be back orders were actual back orders (precision). The main challenges with predicting back orders were the imbalance between back order and a non-back order and the limit of one year of data. As the nature of back orders is that on average, only a few weeks per year will there be a back order on a given part, the training of the model becomes difficult. The difficulty with this imbalance is that the model is always less likely to predict a back order if the occurrence of back order itself is rare. The advantage of deep learning can be found with a large amount of data, and not being limited to one year of data is likely to produce better results. Despite these difficulties the model was highly successful in predicting the occurrence of back orders.

Lugnet Engman, August, Nyberg Lagström, Weine January 2019 (has links)
Idag samlas mer data än någonsin in från olika aktiviteter i samhället.

Mesch, Rickard, Petersson, David January 2019 (has links)

Johansson, Sofie, Wedin Jonsson, Maria January 2019 (has links)

Emission estimation based on traffic models and measurements

Tsanakas, Nikolaos January 2019 (has links)
Traffic congestion increases travel times, but also results in higher energy usage and vehicular emissions. To evaluate the impact of traffic emissions on environment and human health, the accurate estimation of their rates and location is required. Traffic emission models can be used for estimating emissions, providing emission factors in grams per vehicle and kilometre. Emission factors are defined for specific traffic situations, and traffic data is necessary in order to determine these traffic situations along a traffic network. The required traffic data, which consists of average speed and flow, can be obtained either from traffic models or sensor measurements. In large urban areas, the collection of cross-sectional data from stationary sensors is a costefficient method of deriving traffic data for emission modelling. However, the traditional approaches of extrapolating this data in time and space may not accurately capture the variations of the traffic variables when congestion is high, affecting the emission estimation. Static transportation planning models, commonly used for the evaluation of infrastructure investments and policy changes, constitute an alternative efficient method of estimating the traffic data. Nevertheless, their static nature may result in an inaccurate estimation of dynamic traffic variables, such as the location of congestion, having a direct impact on emission estimation. Congestion is strongly correlated with increased emission rates, and since emissions have location specific effects, the location of congestion becomes a crucial aspect. Therefore, the derivation of traffic data for emission modelling usually relies on the simplified, traditional approaches. The aim of this thesis is to identify, quantify and finally reduce the potential errors that these traditional approaches introduce in an emission estimation analysis. According to our main findings, traditional approaches may be sufficient for analysing pollutants with global effects such as CO2, or for large-scale emission modelling applications such as emission inventories. However, for more temporally and spatially sensitive applications, such as dispersion and exposure modelling, a more detailed approach is needed. In case of cross-sectional measurements, we suggest and evaluate the use of a more detailed, but computationally more expensive, data extrapolation approach. Additionally, considering the inabilities of static models, we propose and evaluate the post-processing of their results, by applying quasi-dynamic network loading.
