Waste Not, Want Not: A Smartphone Application Designed to Form Sustainable Habits

Buswell, Amy Rose 01 January 2019 (has links)
This paper chronicles the creation of the smartphone application, `Waste Not, Want Not'. The application is designed to create sustainable habits and change wasteful behaviors in order to reduce personal waste production. The paper explores related works in the fields of environmental science, psychology, and computer science. These related studies establish the need for an application focused on personal waste reduction and the means to build such an application. The design process for the application follows User Experience Design's four phases: Research, Sketch, Design, and Evaluation. The target audience for the application is surveyed and imagined. Next, a basic outline of the application's functionality is created. From this outline, a prototype of the application is built. This prototype undergoes usability testing. It ranks above the average for each of the three usability metrics: effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction. The paper then explores possible expansions and implementations of the application.

Weilander, Erika January 2019 (has links)

Jägerstedt, Adam January 2018 (has links)

Berg, Gustav January 2018 (has links)

Lindberg, Alexander January 2020 (has links)

UX och mobila designprinciper : En studie hur de appliceras på mobila operativsystem / UX and mobile design principles : A study of how they are applied to mobile operating systems

Svensson, Petra, Näckblad, Ronja January 2021 (has links)
We are currently living in an information society (also called the IT society) that began in the 1990s when the internet and computers began to grow and become more used. New technical products are constantly being developed, from analog to digital. Nowadays, mobile phones are devices that almost all people use and the business giants Apple and Google own the two most used operating systems for mobiles, iOS and Android, respectively. User experience (UX) design, together with the development of the internet, has played an increasing role in product development and companies are investing more and more in it. For UX designers, there are general design principles such as Nielsen's ten heuristics or Norman's Seven Fundamental Principles for Interface Design that should be followed when developing products, such as mobile applications. UX puts users in focus and takes into account the whole experience with a product. Companies often have their own design principles and Google and Apple are no exception. To develop user-friendly applications for their operating systems, their principles must be followed, and developers must understand what differences there are in the principles while also following general principles such as Nielsen's and Norman's. This thesis studies the differences between Apple's and Google's design principles, and leverages interviews and observations to investigate the user experience related to Spotify and Instagram. The applications are evaluated according to the companies' principles but also the general ones such as Nielsen's and Norman's. After analysis of the results, it can be seen that there are differences in the companies' principles, but there are also some similarities. Both Spotify and Instagram follow the principles and in cases where they are not followed, it is possible to refer to Nielsen's or Norman's principles. However, Spotify violates Apple's principle of gestures and uses it in a way that reduces the user experience in the app and this could also be seen from the observations. It is important that apps follow all principles to create a good user experience for all different types of users.

Abdi, Mohamed, Ali, Mahammed January 2020 (has links)
Abstract Using prototypes when developing IT artifacts is not something new. With the help of prototypes, developers get a chance to show what the IT artifact can look like without investing too much time or money. The end user also gets the chance to see the IT artifact before it has been developed and gets a chance to add or remove features and requirements. This study examines how to use prototypes and how the use of prototypes improves the experience of mobile application interfaces for young people. In the study, young people from a leisure center were interviewed regarding the development of a mobile application. Three different prototypes have been presented and data has been collected on those prototypes to then see how the different prototypes can be used in a development process. After data collection, it turned out that the Lo-fi prototype did not contribute as much as the Hi-fi prototypes, so there is no need to develop Lo-fi prototypes in order to obtain data on user experience.

BMW DUALITY : Exterior interactions and how to utilize a future car shell in a meaningful way

Troicher, Maximilian January 2019 (has links)
New opportunities open up in a future, where autonomy is daily business, car lighting loses its main purpose and engine sounds are gone completely. BMW Duality is a Concept that focuses on interactions with the exterior of future vehicles. These interactions use multiple human senses to create a unique exterior experience that changes the sensual perception of vehicles when approaching them. The cars physical shape is inspired by the simplicity of 80s and 90s design to offer a clean canvas for the layer of rich digital impressions which will be added on top of it. Sound design, haptic feedback and visual feedback in combination with a modern appearance create a totally new way how BMW could set itself apart in a future where every brand will offer its own shared mobility service. These exterior interactions are not just beneficial for the brand but will enhance the daily life of users as well as the society around it.The degree project process started with a general research phase analyzing our future world with focus on technologies that work together with human senses. After the concept was set, the design process started with thumbnail doodling and rough ideation sketches. Selected themes then got further detailed with digital 2D tools or modelled as rough 3D volumes. The CAS- modelling phase was structured by constantVR review sessions to get a real feeling for the volume in space. This simulated a real-world process, where multiple models are built in full scale. To finalize the project and tell the complete story, a physical model and a virtual animation was created. The outcome of the project is a compact autonomous EV, using multiple ways of communicating with its surrounding. Light, sound and haptic feedback are combined in countless situations to create unique experiences on the vehicle’s exterior. The car can express its character by peripheral feedback through multiplesenses but can also communicate in a direct way to individual users simultaneously. The car will bring users or potential customers one a journey towards the car already without even entering.

Hobbyist Board Game Design Practices: How Do Board Game Designers Craft Their Rules Manuals and Solicit User Feedback on Prototype Games?

Anthony J Bushner (9193679) 31 July 2020 (has links)
This study explores the processes, considerations, and pitfalls of manual drafting and playtesting for board game designers. The board game manual is perhaps one of the most important items in a board game box, yet it is often neglected in game design books and other media. Through interviews with twelve board game designers and editors, this study compiles the best practices and classic pitfalls that designers encounter while writing these high-stakes documents. Observations in this study are geared toward the technical writing community, who can stand to benefit from learning more about the playful nature of game documentation and the affective data gathering processes that these designers undertake as they test their games and rulebooks. In an effort to make this data more accessible to board game designers, a Manual on Writing Manuals is included as an appendix to this study.
