Mediální rámcování konfliktu na Ukrajině - komparace komunikátů vládních serverů Německa a Ruské federace ve světle teorie mírového žurnalismu / Media framing of the Ukrainian conflict - articles comparison of German and Russian governmental servers concerning the theory of peace journalism

Prchlík, Václav January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis called "Media framing of the Ukrainian conflict - articles comparison of German and Russian governmental servers concerning the theory of peace journalism" focuses on the extent, to which differ news coverage of Russian progovernmental webpage rt.com and German progovernmental webpage dw.com. It also researches how much these media contribute to potential escalation and de-escalation of the conflict. These results are gained by implementation of the concept of peace and war journalism into analysed articles. Thanks to quantitative and qualitative analyses methods, the research showed that the coverage of the Ukrainian conflict differs in both media. They vary primarily in the extent of contextual insight into the issue, in thematic contents of articles and in descriptions of parties involved in the conflict. Neither of these two media however can be associated with the practice of war or peace journalism according to the findings. They proved to choose certain aspects of the reality and increase its meaning in their articles, but the amount of such interventions cannot be interpreted as inclination to war or peace journalism.

Politizace jazykové otázky v Ukrajině: diskurzivní konstrukce jazyka, nacionalismu a identity v ukrajinských médiích. / The politicization of the language issue in Ukraine: the discursive construction of the language, nationalism, and identity in Ukrainian media.

Hu, Qianrui January 2021 (has links)
Despite already thirty years after gaining independence, Ukraine is still having difficulties forming an integral and united national identity. The language issue in Ukraine is a vivid example of the problem Ukraine is confronting. Numerous efforts have been made with the aim to strengthen the role of the Ukrainian language, but the presence of the Russian language in Ukraine is still strong. Furthermore, the battle between these two languages often provokes huge public debates, and the debates do not revolve around the language use itself, but usually associate it with the wider debate of the Ukrainian common memory. Although much research has been devoted to analysing the narratives of relevant language laws, the discourses of Ukrainian politicians, or public opinions of the language issue and their links with people's political orientation, this thesis will focus on the discourses of media, an equally important site which represents and reproduces everyday nationalism. By adopting the methodology of critical discourse analysis, this work aims to uncover what are the common themes behind the everyday debate on the language issue in Ukrainian media and what are the typical mechanisms and strategies in the language use of media discourses to facilitate propagating their language ideologies. After a...

Recepce středověkého výkladového sborníku Lucidarius v ukrajinském literárním prostředí / The reception of the mediaeval compendium Lucidarius in Ukrainian literary milieu

Petišková, Dagmar January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the reception of a German-language elucidarium in the Czech and subsequently Ukrainian literary environments. It acquaints the reader with the history of the work, which originates from the Latin theological tract Elucidarium by Honorius Augustodunensis from the end of the 11th century. It deals with the conception of the German Lucidarius, which was created as one of the first medieval works in the national language at the end of the 12th century and is considered to be the first German-language encyclopedia. This thesis presents the Lucidarius as an originally produced compilation created via the translation and adaptation of several Latin treatises from the fields of theology, philosophy, cosmology, geography, and history. In the Czech environment, Lucidář, translated from German, appears at the latest in the mid-15th century and is a work that enjoyed the interest of lower classes of readers until as late as the early 19th century. The Czech Lucidář carries significance in terms of inter-Slavic literary ties - via translation, a Croatian elucidarium (15th century) and Ukranian elucidarium (16th -17th century) were created. This thesis presents the Ukrainian Lucidarij as one of several works that was translated from Czech into the Ukrainian-Belarusian (or more precisely...

Kombinace pracovního a osobního života ve vyprávění ukrajinských migrantek v České republice / Work-life balance in narrations of Ukrainian female migrants in the Czech Republic

Vichnarová, Veronika January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the topic of work-life balance in narrations of Ukrainian female migrants in the Czech Republic. Female migrants are in a difficult situation while managing these two spheres of their lives, because they are situated in an unknown milieu and lack family environment and social ties. Based on fourteen in-depth interviews I analyze how these women deal with this situation and how they feel about it. The research shows that the women's work trajectories develop in accordance with their reasons to migrate and their family situation. The family situation especially their motherhood seems to be crucial in choosing the work-life balance strategies. Thus, in my analysis I show how these strategies differs among women who brought their children with them to the Czech republic, those who brought them later, those who left them at Ukraine and those who gave birth to their first children in the Czech Republic. The main attention is paid to female migrants whose children joint them later as they go through the most distinct changes in managing their work-life balance. In my analysis I identified some problems which Ukrainian migrants have to face considering reconciliation of their work and personal life. The most crucial one is the absence of the extended family and its help with...

Dvořák, Adam January 2021 (has links)
In this diploma thesis, the subject of research will be the topic of collective memory in Ukraine and Poland. The goal of the work will be to perform a comparative qualitative analysis of current historiographical discourses of the politics of memory devoted to the Ukrainian insurgent army (sometimes inaccurately referred to as "Bandera Movement") in Ukraine and Poland. The theoretical framework of the work will be studies of collective memory. The aim of the work will be to perform a qualitative analysis of deeper epistemic assumptions of Ukrainian and Polish political discourse. The work will examine how the UPA is represented in political memories in Poland and Ukraine, respectively, how the professional "truth" is constructed, which is behind the attitude of both societies, to which individuals with a deeper interest come closer. The purpose of this work is to identify a deeper - historiographical - subsoil of political thought, which is reflected in the discourses of Polish and Ukrainian politicians, historians or representatives of memory institutions or publicists and which is the source of their argumentation. Key words: Collective memory, discourse analysis, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Poland, Ukraine, memory distinctions, legacy

Disinformation in a Time of War : A Critical Discourse Analysis of Russian Disinformation Strategies During the Russo-Ukrainian War of 2022

de Boer, Laura January 2023 (has links)
This paper examines Russian broadcast media's disinformation strategies after the Ukraine invasion in 2022. In the past decade, Russian disinformation has been recognized by scholars and policymakers as a danger to European security and order. And it has made it harder for Europeans to access reliable and factual information. However, much research thus far has been conducted when the war in Ukraine was different in proportion, and where disinformation functioned as the foundation for small-scale military action. Now that the war has evolved, disinformation strategies have evolved with it.  In this paper, I applied Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to twenty articles from three internationally oriented Russian broadcasters: RT, Sputnik, and TASS. This revealed two major themes in disinformation narratives: positive Self-representation and negative Other-representation. I demonstrate in this research that Russian disinformation is no longer used to hide Russia’s direct involvement in Ukraine, but that it is used to present justifications for the invasion and further military actions.  Moreover, the research illustrates that the relationship between information warfare and conventional warfare is symbiotic and that contemporary disinformation strategies have been adjusted so that they can benefit from the current circumstances in Ukraine. Ultimately, in this research, I determine that Russian disinformation strategies have evolved since the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and are now altered to align with the Kremlin’s aggressive military tactics.
