O transporte urbano de cargas tem importÃncia fundamental dentro do processo de urbanizaÃÃo, o qual requer um modo de transportar seus bens e mercadorias. Entretanto, esse deslocamento, em uma percepÃÃo geral, contribui, de forma significativa, para problemas de congestionamento, poluiÃÃo, ruÃdo, dentre outros. Esta dissertaÃÃo tem por objetivo avaliar o impacto do uso de um VeÃculo Urbano de Cargas (VUC) sobre a operaÃÃo do trÃfego em Ãrea urbana, fazendo uso de uma ferramenta de microssimulaÃÃo de trÃfego, atravÃs da elaboraÃÃo e comparaÃÃo de cenÃrios propostos, tomando por base a Ãrea central do municÃpio de Fortaleza. O modelo inicial utilizou parÃmetros calibrados de um estudo em ambiente rodoviÃrio e foram criados trÃs cenÃrios alternativos que permitiram a anÃlise dos impactos do VUC na Ãrea estudada. Os resultados obtidos na simulaÃÃo apontam que a adoÃÃo de um VUC nÃo contribui de forma significativa na reduÃÃo do atraso e dos tempos de viagem, entretanto, apresenta melhoras quando associada à proibiÃÃo de estacionamento em via pÃblica. / Urban transport cargo is paramount within the urbanization process, which requires a way to transport their goods and merchandise. However, this displacement in a general sense, contributes significantly to problems of congestion, pollution, noise, among others. This paper aims to assess the impact of using a vehicle on Urban Freight traffic operation in an urban area, making use of a microsimulation tool traffic through the development and comparison of proposed scenarios, based on the central area the city of Fortaleza. The initial model used calibrated parameters of a study on road environment and three alternative scenarios were created that allowed the analysis of the impacts of VUC in the study area. The simulation results indicate that the adoption of a VUC not show performance gains in traffic, however, shows improvement when combined with prohibition of parking on public roads.

Nevertheless, with the appropriate solid waste management the possibility of biogas generation arise, recovered as an energy source then can be applied as even as fuel. The use of biogas as a vehicle fuel is a reality in Brazil and in the world, bearing in mind the initiatives and actions of this nature were already impleaded and practiced. Within this scenario, the current project aimed to evaluate the biomethane potential production in the city Foz do Iguassu, state of Paraná, for usage in urban transport: Buses and cabs. To that end, the biogas, which was produced in the city’s landfill, was quantified, also was its potential for methane emission and generation, the estimate of the waste flux according to the number of citizens and the fuel consumption of the bus and taxi fleets. Due to these data, was sought the potential of replacing diesel vehicles (buses) and gasoline (taxis) by biomethane fuelled-vehicles and the economic viability involved in this process. It is concluded that the landfill has capacity for the bus fleets (50% for 17 years) and for taxis (100% for 19 years) and that the production cost of the biomethane in Foz do Iguassu is low. On the other hand, the vehicles conversion to the use of biomethane is expensive. Therefore, the result obtained was the following situation: the conversion of buses is more costly than cabs, and it is initially recommended that the taxi fleet turn to the use of biomethane as fuel, which one will react in a positive cash flow and a shorter return investment time, demonstrating the feasibility and economy of this process. / O aumento acelerado da produção de resíduos sólidos pela humanidade tem sido alvo de preocupação mundial. Porém, com o gerenciamento adequado destes resíduos, torna-se possível a geração do biogás, recuperado como fonte energética e podendo inclusive ser utilizado como combustível. A utilização do biogás como combustível veicular é uma realidade no Brasil e no mundo tendo em vista as iniciativas desta natureza que já estão sendo implantadas e praticadas. Dentro deste cenário, o presente estudo se propôs a avaliar o potencial do biometano produzido na cidade de Foz do Iguaçu, estado do Paraná, para o uso em transporte urbano de passageiros: ônibus e taxis. Para isso, obteve-se a quantificação do biogás gerado no aterro da cidade, seu potencial de geração e emissão de metano, a estimativa do fluxo de resíduos conforme número de habitantes e consumo combustível das frotas de ônibus e taxis. A partir do levantamento destes dados, buscou-se o potencial de substituição de veículos a diesel (ônibus) e a gasolina (taxis) por veículos movidos a biometano e a viabilidade econômica envolvida neste processo. Conclui-se que o aterro possui capacidade de fornecimento para as frotas de ônibus (50% por 17 anos) e de taxis (100% por 19 anos) e que o custo de produção do biometano em Foz do Iguaçu é baixo. Por outro lado, a conversão dos veículos para o uso do biometano é onerosa. Obteve-se a seguinte situação: a conversão dos ônibus é mais custosa que dos taxis, sendo recomendável incialmente que a frota de taxis seja convertida para o uso do biometano como combustível, o que acarretará em um fluxo de caixa positivo e menor tempo de retorno do investimento, indicando a viabilidade e a economia deste processo.

Sistemas de transportes terrestres de passageiros em tempos de reestruturação produtiva na região metropolitana de São Paulo / Terrestrial passengers transport system in productive restructuration times in São Paulo metropolitan area

Esta Tese foi formulada buscando responder a uma problemática central: a reestruturação produtiva induz a uma redefinição do sistema de transportes terrestres, tanto no que se refere à infra-estrutura quanto aos deslocamentos realizados por passageiros. O objetivo geral desta pesquisa é o estudo da configuração da rede de transporte e dos ritmos dos fluxos urbanos na Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP), observando que a reengenharia da produção a partir da década de 1990 alterou os fluxos e provocou novas demandas por transportes, configurando novos arranjos espaciais na metrópole. Sob a linha metodológica de análise da realidade pautada sobre os fenômenos empíricos, de dados estatísticos e conhecimento teórico dos fatos que ocorrem na RMSP, no que tange às suas atividades econômicas, utilizamo-nos das quatro categorias do método geográfico de análise do espaço: forma, função, estrutura e processo. A pesquisa nos proporcionou, através do estudo das infra-estruturas de transporte ferroviário, metroviário e rodoviário, o conhecimento da forma. A análise dos fluxos realizados nos proporcionou o entendimento da função. As políticas que determinam a infra-estrutura viária e influem na qualidade dos fluxos de passageiros compuseram a dimensão da categoria de análise estrutura, fundamental para que pudéssemos fazer a crítica ao sistema de transporte de passageiros da RMSP. O processo histórico permeou toda a pesquisa. À luz da subjetividade expressa nas entrevistas que realizamos, foi possível construir uma nova visão de nosso problema de pesquisa. Fazendo uso dessas categorias analíticas, procuramos compreender a nova organização do espaço metropolitano sob o viés das infra-estruturas de transporte e dos deslocamentos dos passageiros. A reestruturação produtiva significou nada mais do que a incorporação de novas técnicas ao trabalho e à gerência, que engendraram alterações na organização do espaço. Em tempos de reestruturação produtiva, verificamos a diminuição das atividades industriais e o crescimento de novas modalidades de serviços. Isto significa que, com a terceirização de tantas atividades que, em tempos fordistas, se concentravam na fábrica, multiplicaram-se as empresas prestadoras de serviços produtivos. Além disto, muitos outros serviços distributivos e sociais aumentaram e se disseminaram pelo espaço urbano. Através do estudo das vias férreas, metroviárias e rodoviárias, das modalidades de transporte que circulam por estas vias na RMSP, e ainda dos deslocamentos de passageiros, concluímos que desde a origem da estruturação da metrópole paulistana, a mobilidade e a acessibilidade foram ao mesmo tempo princípios e resultantes do processo de metropolização, fato que pode ser verificado pelo estudo histórico da relação entre a expansão da mancha urbana e a estrutura viária. Tendo importante participação em todas as etapas do processo de estruturação da metrópole, a mobilidade teve um papel indutor tanto no início da metropolização quanto no atual período, quando a RMSP passa por intensas transformações decorrentes do processo de reestruturação da produção. Os resultados de nossa pesquisa nos fizeram concluir que, notadamente em meados dos anos 1990, os sistemas de transportes metropolitanos iniciaram um processo de reorganização e modernização, acelerados nos anos 2000. A Tese apresenta dados que demonstram que a redefinição do padrão produtivo também redefiniu o padrão da circulação de passageiros na RMSP. / This Thesis was formulated trying to answer to a central problem: the productive restructuration leads on a redefinition of the terrestrial transport system, concerning the infrastructure and the passengers displacements. The research general objective is the study of the shape transport network and the urban fluxes rhythmic in São Paulo Metropolitan Area, observing that the production reengineering after 1990 changed the fluxes and stimulated new transport demands, configuring new metropolis spatial arrangements. Under the methodological line of the reality analysis based on the empirical phenomena, statistical data and theoretical knowledge of the facts that occur in São Paulo Metropolitan Area, concerning to its economic activities, we use the four categories of the geographic analysis of the space method: form, function, structure and process. The research that we realized supplied, through the rail, underground and road infra-structure study, the knowledge of the form. The fluxes analysis supplied the function understanding. The politics that define the infra-structure and influence the passengers fluxes quality made up the analysis category of the structure, important to the passengers transport system critic that we have done. The historical process interposed all the research. The subjectivity expressed on the interviews we realized made a new vision of our research problem possible. Using the four analysis categories, we tried to understand a new metropolitan space organization under the obliquity of the transport infra-structure and the passengers displacements. The productive restructuration meant more than new techniques incorporation to labor and management, which expressed spatial organization changes. In productive restructuration times, we noticed a minimization of the industrial activities and the growth of some other services modalities. This means that, with so many activities that were transferred to a third company, which in Ford period were concentrated in the plant, the rendering companies of productive services had been multiplied. Moreover, many other distributive and social services had increased and had spread through the urban area. Through the study of the railway, subway and road, of the transport modalities that circulate in São Paulo Metropolitan Area, and still of the passengers displacements, we conclude that since São Paulo metropolis structural origin, mobility and accessibility had been, at the same time, principles and resultants of the metropolis formation process, fact that can be verified by the historical study of the urban area expansion and the road structure. Mobility had an inductive paper at the beginning of the metropolis formation and in the current period, when São Paulo Metropolitan Area passes for intense transformations decurrently of the process of production reorganization, having important participation in all the stages of the process of metropolis structural organization. The results of our research had shown that, in middle of years 1990, the metropolitan transport systems initiated a reorganization and modernization process, sped up in the 2000. We believe that the redefinition of the productive standard also redefined the standard of the passengers circulation in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area.

O transporte caracteriza-se, portanto, como uma das atividades principais para o atendimento das necessidades de crescimento dos centros urbanos. Uma das opções adotadas para o transporte público urbano é o sistema BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), que consegue atender a necessidades de transporte com baixo custo de implantação, provocando impactos positivos em sua área de influência. Diante disso, sistemas BRT foram implantados em muitas cidades no mundo, o que torna a avaliação de desempenho deste modo de transporte uma necessidade atual e de grande importância para o desenvolvimento adequado dos centros urbanos. O objetivo do presente trabalho é o de avaliar o desempenho do sistema BRT da cidade de Lima, no Peru, especificamente Corredor Segregado de Alta Capacidade (COSAC I). Para tanto, foi adotada a metodologia de auxílio multicritério à decisão, que leva em conta tanto as variáveis quantitativas como as qualitativas na avaliação. Esta metodologia foi aplicada de forma abrangente, considerando não apenas os interesses do usuário, mas também os impactos que esse sistema provoca no meio urbano. Os resultados obtidos possibilitaram conhecer os pontos de vista e as necessidades dos atores, assim como o desempenho geral do sistema e o desempenho local para cada atributo / Abstract: Cities need efficient transport systems, both for the movement of goods and people as to the realization of the fundamental activities. Therefore transport is characterized as one of the main activities to meet the growing needs of urban centers. One of the options adopted for urban public transport is the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), which can meet the transportation needs with low cost of deployment, causing positive impacts in its area of influence. Therefore, BRT systems have been deployed in many cities in the world, which makes the performance evaluation of the transport mode a current need and of great importance for the proper development of urban centers. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the BRT system of the city of Lima, Peru, specifically the Segregated Corridor of High Capacity (COSAC I). For this purpose, the methodology adopted was multicriteria decision aid, which takes into account both qualitative and quantitative variables in evaluating. This methodology was applied comprehensively, considering not only the user's interests, but also the impact that this system causes the urban environment. Facilitating a contested practice : building and growing urban transport cycling in Santiago de Chile

This research aims to achieve a better understanding of interventions in the trajectories of practices. It is based on a case study of transport cycling in Santiago de Chile. The research uses a practice approach combined with concepts from Science and Technology Studies in order to explore the practice of transport cycling and examine interventions aimed at increasing the modal share of cycling in Santiago. The research is based on qualitative data from semi-structured interviews, participant observation, photography and document analysis. While transport cycling is a recognisable practice in Santiago, it is also the site of several conflicts. The stigmatisation of cycling in its recent history as mode of transport for the most marginalised part of the urban population is challenged by new images of cycling as environmentally-friendly, healthy mode of transport for young professionals. As cycling becomes more popular, conflicts over the location of cycling emerge with motorists as well as pedestrians. Finally, different performances and understandings of cycling have generated conflicts among the urban transport cyclists. By focusing on relations between practices, the research thereby brings to the forefront the contested nature of practices which has so far been underemphasised in practice research. The research then focuses on interventions in the trajectory of urban transport cycling in Santiago, how they are developed and how they take effect. The research identifies two categories of interventions: building practice and growing practice. Building practice is the government-led provision of material infrastructure for cycling, while growing practice is led by civil society and includes a variety of small-scale interventions in the everyday engagement in the practice. The research argues that building practice produces infrastructure which is developed within the dominant system of automobility and is shaped by and reflects the inherent conflicts of the practice. Growing practice interventions are shaped by the core of the community of practice. They do not only provide targeted support for individuals, but more importantly contribute to the creation of a community of practice. This research aims to contribute to practice research by proposing a relational perspective for the analysis of practices, which emphasises five relational dimensions of practice: the individual situated experience of the performance in which meaning is created, the socio-technical system in which the practice is embedded, the relations between co-existing practices which bring to the forefront the contested nature of practices, the material infrastructure which emerges from the socio-technical system and shapes the performance of the practice, and finally the community of practice which constitutes practice and may be able to grow practice.

Nuestro trabajo de investigación se centra en una necesidad real existente en Lima y en el Perú en general, reordenar el transporte público de la ciudad para darles calidad de vida a sus habitantes. Sabemos que Lima y muchas ciudades en el Perú desde que nacieron, no lo hicieron de manera ordenada ni planificada, ahora que la ciudad está poblada y construida en su mayor parte, es prácticamente imposible pensar en un rediseño de la ciudad o de sus vías. Es verdad que se puede trabajar en algunos corredores viales y líneas de transporte dedicadas y exclusivas que no compitan con el tráfico de la ciudad, que permita un transporte rápido y ordenado. Al hacer uso de la tecnología, se permitirá utilizar mejor los recursos existentes, ordenar el sistema en general, integrarlo y dar ese servicio diferenciado que tanto necesita nuestra ciudad y país en este momento. Somos creyentes que este trabajo puede ser una importante fuente de consulta para que las autoridades y personas que están trabajando en el mejoramiento del sistema de transporte, revisen todas las aristas y diferentes puntos de vista para hacer un trabajo de calidad y a largo plazo. Esperamos que este trabajo logre su cometido en un corto plazo. / Our research work focus in real needs in Peru, principally in Lima the Capital city. to reorganize the public transport to give quality of life to citizens. We know that Lima and many cities in Peru, since they built, did not organized in a correct way, so now they are habituated and structured without the planning they need now, it´s practically impossible to redesign the city. The authorities can work to built on some dedicated and exclusive roads and transport lines that do not compete with city traffic, which allows fast and orderly transportation. But, if the city use technology, it will be possible to use better of existing resources, order the system in general, integrate it and provide that differentiated service that our city and country needs at this time. We are believers that this research work can be an important source of consultation so that the authorities and people who works on the improvement of the transport system, review all the tips and different points of view to do a quality and long-time work. Factores más influyentes en la calidad percibida del servicio de taxi asistido por aplicativo móvil, desde la percepción de los usuarios que viven o trabajan en Lima Moderna / Most influential factors in the perceived quality of the taxi service assisted by mobile application, from the perception of users who live or work in Modern Lima

El objetivo del presente trabajo de investigación es determinar los factores más influyentes en la calidad percibida del servicio de taxi asistido por aplicativo móvil, desde la percepción de los usuarios que viven o trabajan en Lima Moderna. Para ello, se utilizó la metodología del modelo Servqual y se realizó un estudio no experimental del tipo descriptivo. El instrumento de recolección fue una encuesta estructurada de 22 preguntas, tanto para las percepciones como para las expectativas. La diferencia entre ambas dio como resultado brechas negativas del servicio. Las preguntas se agruparon en cinco factores (fiabilidad, sensibilidad, seguridad, empatía y tangibilidad). La encuesta se aplicó a 388 usuarios, lo que permitió conocer el nivel de satisfacción por cada factor, por sexo y por empresa. Entre los resultados más relevantes de la investigación se pudo evidenciar que los usuarios se sienten insatisfechos con la calidad del servicio, especialmente los relacionados con los factores de seguridad y empatía. El trabajo también investiga la relación entre cada factor y la calidad percibida, estableciéndose una correlación moderada. Además, se usa la herramienta Net Promoter Score que mide la lealtad de los usuarios basándose en sus recomendaciones. Si bien en el Perú no existen estudios que aplican Servqual para medir la calidad de servicio en la industria del taxi por aplicativo, este es muy usado internacionalmente. Confiamos que esta investigación servirá de base para futuros estudios a nivel nacional. Nuestra investigación puede ser aprovechada por los directivos de las empresas de taxi por aplicativo para realizar acciones de mejora en su servicio. / The aim of this recent investigation is to determine the most significant aspects that influence in the quality of taxi service apps in Modern Lima. For this, it was used the methodology of Servqual Model and it was developed as a non-experimental research of descriptive design. The instrument to collect data was a structured survey of 22 questions for both, perceptions, as well as expectations. The difference between them result in negative gaps in the service. The questions were classified according to five aspects (reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy and tangibles). The survey was applied to 388 users, which allowed to know the level of satisfaction in each factor, by gender and company. Among the most relevant results of the investigation it was noticeable that user feel unsatisfied with the quality of the service, especially those related to factors of reliability and empathy. Likewise, the research attempts to stablish the relationship between each factor and the quality perceived, stablishing a moderate correlation. Furthermore, it was used the Net Promoter Score tool, which measures the users’ loyalty based on their recommendations. Although in Peru there has not been any research that apply Servqual to measure the quality of service in transportation network companies, it is a model used internationally. We trust that this research will be used as a reference for future local studies. This investigation can benefit managers of taxi companies in order to carry out improvements in their service. / Tesis

An application of stated choice to the valuation of bus attributes : a case study of Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bus is the main mode of urban transport in most cities in developing countries. Despite a high mode share, bus service quality is often poor and para-transit services are regarded as a problem in urban transport systems rather than a solution. Using Dhaka as a case study, this thesis investigates bus service quality through identification and valuation of thirteen important attributes using discrete choice models. The attributes examined are travel time, travel cost, waiting time, headway, priority seats for women, crowding inside the bus, boarding and alighting, picking up and dropping off passengers, bus stop facilities, driving quality, driver and crew behaviour, cleanliness inside the bus, and air conditioning. Five focus groups were conducted to identify key qualitative bus attributes and their levels in order to design choice experiments for valuation. A survey of 431 respondents in Dhaka was then undertaken. Two choice experiments were designed and implemented within the survey, each with seven attributes (set A and set B) with travel cost as the common attribute. Multinomial Logit (MNL) models and Mixed Logit (MXL) models were developed using the Dhaka choice data. Twelve of the thirteen attributes were statistically significant at the 99% level. The values of in-vehicle time (IVT), waiting time and headway were BDT 34.80, 47.40 and 64.20 per hour respectively for low income groups in the segmented model. Waiting time has a premium valuation, 1.36 times higher than IVT, which endorses existing evidence. The highest valuation is for the dummy variable seating all the way which is BDT 42.20 for high income females. The next largest was bus stops properly, picks and drops passengers nicely , followed by wide door and mild steps for boarding and alighting , smooth and safe journey , bus stop with shed, but no seating arrangements , and air conditioning . The lowest value was BDT 4.61 for deck and seats are clean and tidy , for the low income group. The WTP for the qualitative attributes is high, but given the poor level of the existing service and low fare levels this seems reasonable. Income has a significant impact on travel cost, as well as gender on priority seats for women and crowding inside the bus. However, household car ownership does not have a significant impact on any of the bus attributes examined. The high income group has 75% higher WTP for A set attributes and 79% higher WTP for B set attributes than low income group. Females have 76% higher WTP for standing comfortably all the way , but 38% higher WTP for seating all the way compared to the male. However, females have a WTP of BDT 0.44 for per percent of priority seats for women in contrast with males who have a WTP of BDT -0.11. There is significant taste heterogeneity for both quantitative and qualitative attributes. The qualitative attributes for picking up and dropping off passengers, boarding and alighting facilities and driving facilities have higher valuation and this attributes came from the existing within the market competition structure in a highly fragmented bus market. Therefore, it is recommended to introduce competition for the market and incentives for bus industry consolidation.

O principal objetivo deste trabalho foi o desenvolvimento de um sistema informatizado para o auxílio na escolha modal pelos usuários de transporte público. Neste sistema, as alternativas a considerar e soluções geradas devem se basear nas solicitações do usuário e poderão ser usadas para o planejamento tático e/ou estratégico do sistema de transporte considerado. O sistema foi modelado para solução através do algoritmo de fluxo em rede Label Correcting, capaz de lidar com esse problema multimodal, implementado em uma linguagem de programação orientada a objetos. O sistema foi concebido como uma aplicação de internet e, embora seja voltado para um sistema de transporte genérico, foi aplicado e testado com base nas alternativas de transporte disponíveis e malha de ruas da Cidade Universitária Armando de Salles Oliveira. / The main target of this master of science research is the development of a tool to help on modal selection by the public transportation users, which will be implemented as an eletronic information system.Since the infomation must be provided in real time to the user,it is important to the system to be fast and easy to use.It is also a requirement that the system presents options and information to help the user on the selection of the best choice among all possible ones. The alternatives to be considered and generated solutions shall be based on the user requests related to origin and destination of the desired trip. The requests will be stored and could be used for tactic and/or strategic planning of the concerned system of transport. This multimodal problem will be modeled to be solved with the Label Correcting network flow algorithm and implemented using an object oriented language. Although addressed to a generic transport system,it will be implemented and tested based on the available transport alternatives and street mesh of the Cidade Universitaria Armando de Salles Oliveira. The system may be available to users through internet.
