Este estudo visa sondar a presença de autores franceses setecentistas ligados às Lumières no universo das crônicas de Machado de Assis. Popularizados, sobretudo, graças à imprensa, força motriz na disseminação do conhecimento no início do século XIX, Voltaire, Rousseau e Diderot, destituídos da aura de grandes filósofos, integram-se facilmente na esfera do folhetim. Ali, obras, temas e princípios criados por eles (já decantados pela cultura popular e tornados clichês, axiomas e ditos) agregam sentidos, ampliam a compreensão do elemento local, concorrem para a característica irônicochistosa do gênero e sedimentam a relação Brasil-França através da poética intertextual, traço profundo da escrita machadiana, cuja pluralidade de vozes fez da crônica um diálogo particular entre os dois países. A crítica moderna nos adverte quanto ao maniqueísmo da esquematização, ressaltando o lado arbitrário de toda periodização. Nota-se, contudo, que ao olhar o passado recente na tentativa de compreender o século XVIII, os homens do XIX retomaram em parte imagens herdadas da autorrepresentação daquele que foi o século da audácia crìtica, de maneira que se pode isolar o século XVIII, pois, mitificado, impõe-se ainda como identidade específica, irradiando a cultura francesa através de Voltaire, Rousseau e Diderot, seus exponenciais mitos mobilizadores. / This study aims, above all, at scrutinizing the presence of French writers from the eighteenth century, related to the Lumières, in the universe of Machado de Assis\'s chronicles. Popular, especially due to the press driving force in the dissemination of knowledge in the beginning of the nineteenth century Voltaire, Rousseau and Diderot, destitute of the great philosophers aura, easily fit into the universe of the broadsheet, where works, themes and principles created by them (which no longer enchanted the popular culture and had become clichés, axioms and sayings) were able to attribute meanings, broaden the understanding of the local element, compete for the mockingironic characteristic of the genre and strenghten the Brazil-French relationship through intertextual poetics deep feature of Machados writings, whose plurality of voices turned the chronicles into a particular dialogue between the two countries. Modern criticism advises us about the manichaeism of scheming, by highlighting the arbitrarity side of periodization. However, by looking at the recent past while trying to understand the eighteenth century, it is possible to notice that those men from the nineteenth century resumed, in part, the images inherited from the selfrepresentation of the century which was the time for the critical audacity, so as that one can isolate the eighteenth century, since, mythified, it also imposes itself as a specific identity, irradiating the French culture through Voltaire, Rousseau and Diderot, its exponential moving myths.

O presente trabalho visa compreender a relação entre a ordem do mundo e o homem nas obras de Voltaire, ou seja, elucidar a posição e condição do homem num mundo ordenado por leis e a compreensão desse mundo do ponto de vista humano. Para tanto se enfrentou os temas que tal relação oferecia ao autor: a liberdade e a necessidade, o destino, a providência e o mal. Estes tópicos, como se sabe, constituem os assuntos tradicionais da teodicéia, de sorte que o presente trabalho é concebido também como a elucidação da leitura crítica de Voltaire do otimismo filosófico. / The present work tries to understand the rapports between the order of the world and man in Voltaires works, that is, it aims at shedding some light on man as part of an ordered world and on the understanding of that ordered world from a human standpoint. In order to do that it focused the subjects which the comprehension of that relation required: liberty and necessity, destiny, providence and evil. Those topics, as one knows, constituted the traditional themes of the theodicy, so that the present work can also be considered as an account of Voltaires critique of the philosophical optimism.

Este trabalho tem como tema principal o estudo da presença de Voltaire nas crônicas machadianas através do intertexto como aporte teórico. Na obra jornalística de Machado de Assis verificou-se que era grande a recorrência a Voltaire, merecendo, portanto, um estudo mais aprofundado. Foram feitas análises críticas de 23 crônicas, nas quais se verificou que, em algumas delas, os elementos intertextuais - a citação, a referência ou alusão, acomodam-se ao novo texto, em benefício da ironia que o cronista procurava imprimir à situação. Em outras, no entanto, atuam completando, alterando ou ainda modificando inteiramente o novo texto, em processo que, se por um lado demonstra a extensão das leituras do cronista, por outro, redireciona o leitor, descortinando-lhe um novo horizonte intelectual e cultural ao tomar conhecimento da obra citada ou referenciada, ou, para aquele leitor com ela familiarizado, reescrevendo-a. / The main topic of this paper is the study of Voltaires influence in Machado de Assis chronicles by means of intertextuality as the theoretical framework. This influence can also be seen in Machados journalistic work, and we believe that deserved to be dealt with in more detail. Twenty three chronicles were analyzed and it was noticed that in some of them, intertextual elements like quotations, references or allusions molded the new text favoring the irony the writer meant to imply. In others, however, these elements alter or even entirely modify the new text in a process that shows, on the one hand, the extension of Machados reading, and on the other, the way he leads the reader to a new intellectual and cultural horizon the very moment he gets in touch with the works mentioned or referred to. For the reader who was already familiar with Voltaires work, there was the possibility of a new understanding of it.

Nous avons entrepris, dans ce travail doctoral, une analyse stylistique du dialogue polémique, appliquée à un corpus littéraire à tendance philosophique : celui de l’œuvre philosophique de Voltaire. Nous avons accordé une attention particulière au style du polémiste aux dépens de ses idées philosophiques, maintes fois étudiées dans d’autres travaux. Le dialogue polémique dans l’œuvre philosophique de Voltaire n’est pas un simple procédé littéraire ; il constitue l’essence même de l’œuvre. La thèse comprend trois parties :L’analyse que nous avons effectuée dans la première partie de notre travail doctoral met avant tout l’accent sur la spécificité formelle du dialogue polémique et surtout sur sa nature conflictuelle, tout en examinant la manière dont il s’articule avec des genres littéraires divers et les différentes formes du discours qu’il revêt. La polémique s’engage quand les interlocuteurs admettent des thèses opposées et que chacun suppose que le discours adverse est mal déduit et fondé sur des faux raisonnements : distanciation et défense sont donc interdépendantes. C’est pour cette raison que nous avons entrepris, dans la deuxième partie de notre travail doctoral, une étude sur le fonctionnement de l’argumentation dans le dialogue polémique voltairien. Le détournement est une spécificité stylistique chez notre polémiste, qui dévoile sa présence constante dans ses écritures philosophiques. Dans ce sens, il nous a paru nécessaire d’étudier, dans la troisième partie de notre travail doctoral, le style détourné dans les œuvres philosophique de Voltaire tout en soulignant l'ambiguïté énonciative qui s’attache à ses différentes figures. / In this doctoral work, we have undertaken a stylistic analysis of polemical dialogue, applied to a literary corpus with a philosophical tendency: that of Voltaire's philosophical work. We have paid particular attention to the style of the polemicist at the expense of his philosophical ideas, often studied in other works. The polemical dialogue in Voltaire's philosophical work is not merely a literary process; It is the very essence of the work. The thesis consists of three parts:The analysis that we carried out in the first part of our doctoral work focuses above all on the formal specificity of polemical dialogue and especially on its conflictual nature, while examining the way it articulates with various literary genres And the different forms of discourse it assumes.Polemicism begins when the interlocutors admit opposing theses and each assumes that the opposing discourse is wrongly deduced and based on false reasoning: distancing and defense are therefore interdependent. For this reason, in the second part of our doctoral work, we undertook a study on the functioning of the argument in the Voltairian polemical dialogue.The diversion is a stylistic specificity in our polemicist, who reveals its constant presence in its philosophical writings. In this sense, it seemed necessary to study in the third part of our doctoral work the diverted style in Voltaire's philosophical works, while underlining the enunciative ambiguity attached to its various figures.

Cette thèse porte sur le pamphlet au XVIIIe siècle, à travers une étude de ses formes stylistiques et la rhétorique du genre - à l’exemple de l’affaire Calas. Nous avons opté pour une crise religieuse, relevant de l’engagement littéraire d’un écrivain, autour d’un axe événementiel, propice à l’apparition d’une production pamphlétaire. Notre analyse s’est orientée vers un détour lexicographique des différentes étapes, menant le pamphlet à son acception actuelle. Ce terme, apparu en 1842 avec P.-L. Courriel, constituait un anglicisme chez Voltaire, et se manifestait dans une multiplicité de formes connexes. Notre hypothèse considérait le pamphlet comme un genre littéraire à part entière, aux côtés des formes canoniques. Nous avons décrit et analysé les dimensions structurelles du pamphlet pour dégager ses traits définitoires. C’est à partir de l’analyse spécifique de notre corpus, et tout en évitant de plaquer un modèle préétabli, que nous avons dégagé une structure typologique propre au pamphlet. Nous avons repéré, dans un corpus délimité, des réseaux de genres et sous-genres, à partir de la répartition statistique des traits grammaticaux, et des procédés rhétoriques et stylistiques. Ainsi, il s’est avéré que celui-ci recélait dix dimensions structurelles : pragmatique, énonciative, polyphonique, intellective, idéologique, axiologique, passionnelle, stylistique, et rhétorique ou argumentative. En empruntant à la rhétorique et à la stylistique certains de leurs instruments conceptuels, nous avons démontré que les écrits relatifs à l’affaire Calas répondaient potentiellement à la définition moderne du genre, proposée par M. Angenot et O. Ferret. Certaines caractéristiques définitoires nous ont permis d’admettre l’existence du pamphlet avant son apparition officielle, et donc l’existence de sa pratique avant sa théorisation. / The current work deals with pamphlet in XVIIIth century. It concerns the stylistic and the rhetoric forms of this literature’s kind as the Calas case by Voltaire. This religious crisis showed the implication of a writer and which probably led to the emergence of the pamphlet. Our analysis was based on lexicographical study and which aimed to plot the different steps that have led the pamphlet to its current meaning. The term pamphlet appeared in 1842 with P.-L. Courriel and was considered by Voltaire as an Anglicism and which was appeared in several related forms. Our hypothesis considers the pamphlet as a full independent literary genre, alongside the canonical forms. We tried to analyze and describe the structural dimensions of the pamphlet to reveal its defining lines. By a specific analysis of our instance case and without applying a pre-established model, we provided a specific typological structure to the pamphlet. Based on a delimited corpus and using the statistical distribution of the grammatical traits and the rhetoric and stylistic processes, we were able to identify networks of literary genres and subgenres. By this analysis we showed that there are ten structural dimensions: pragmatic, enunciative, polyphonic, intellective, ideological, axiological, passionate, stylistic, and rhetoric or argumentative. According to the conceptual features of rhetoric and stylistic, we showed that relative papers to Calas case were potentially in accordance with the modern definition of pamphlet as proposed by M. Angenot and O. Ferret. Some of the defining characteristics admit the existence of the pamphlet before its official appearance, and thus the existence of its practice before its theorization.
