Sällskapsdjurens betydelse i omvårdnaden av den äldre människan : En litteraturstudie / The meaning of pets in the caring of the elderly people : A literature review

Larsson, Ann-Charlotte, Gratgård, Marie January 2008 (has links)
Djur ger en trevlig atmosfär i sin omgivning.</p> / <p>Background: Through thousands of year people and domestic animal have been living side by side. Earlier studies have focused on the physiological, psychological and sociological effects pets have on humans.</p><p>Aim: The aim of this literature review was to examine which meaning pets have in the caring of the elderly people.</p><p>Method: For this literature review, data was collected from the databases</p><p>Cinahl and Swemed. In the studie a method processing in eight steps according to Polit and Beck (2004) was used. During analyse three main categories appeared. These three categories were, pets meaning of the elderly people, pets as therapy and problems which can appear when elderly people want to socialize with pets.</p><p>Result: The result showed that pets have an important role in the daily life of many elderly people. For the elderly people, pets can be the most important relation and sometimes the only close relation they have. Pet therapy indicates that it is a good complement to other treatment therapies for the elderly people.</p><p>Conclusion: Elderly people feel good when they socialize with pets. Pets bring a nice atmosphere in their environment.</p>

Trešlová, Jana January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to find out chat forms of zoorehabilitation exists and how it can help to people with autism and thein families. The work begins with a brief definitiv of autism and its history. The FIFA charter is devoted to autism spektrum disorders, its influence on social relationships, communication, imagination, games and interests. The sixth charter deals with disorders of the autism spektrum. I describe each disorder separately, its characteristics, even if there are not fixed boundaries between different disordes. The seventh charter is devoted to the diagnosis of autism spektrum disorders, chat are the metod sof diagnosis. Next charter describers chat options do parents of these childern have in education. Following charter describes Civic associations, that arise and hepl parents of childern affected by autism and ether formo f disabilities. In the tenth and in the next five chapters are described different types zoorehabilitation, its origin and use in the Czech Republic. From the seventeenth charter starts the practical part where i described free different stories of families with a child who has one of the autism spektrum disorder. Every child has a different disorder and esch reacts differently to zootherapy, whether at home or specialized facility. From case reports, it...

"Nu kommer hunden!" : Aktionsforskning om barn som läser för hundar med syfte att utveckla lässtunderna på svenska bibliotek

Garp, Elina January 2015 (has links)
This master´s thesis in Library and Information Science examines the experiences of children who read to a dog. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the interactions between the librarian, the readingdog-handler, the child-ren and the dogs and what the benefits from the interactions might be. The aim is also to examine how the child-ren express their literacy during the readingsessions and how to develop the readingsessions at a specific library. The author follows a reading dog project for seven weeks, in collaboration with a specific school and library. Action research was used as a research strategy, and since action research is done on the basis of practice, a coll-laboration with the participating children, the librarian and the readingdog-handler was significant in this study. The theoretical framework concists of theory and concepts from the sociocultural theory developed by Ro-ger Säljö, and human-animal studies with concepts from Donna Haraway. The method used to collecet data was qualitative interviews, participant observation, logbook and tutoring. A total of 33 observations was collected, 33 short interviews were conducted and 6 tutoring meetings. Also the author, readingdog-handler and the lib-rarian kept a log for this seven week long readingdog project. A total of five third grade children participated in this study.Important results are that the children view the readingsessions as a schoolbased activity, but they would also read to a dog in their spare time. The interaction with the dog and the relationship between the child and the dog are important for the readingsessions to work well. The readingsessions have the potential to let children express and develop their literacy in several ways, though in this study literacy was expressed mainly by tradit-ional reading of printed books. The thesis also discuss to what extent the participant children are allowed to be involved in planning and developing the readingdog-sessions. All of the children participating in this study had a positive experience of the readingsessions and felt that their readingskills improved by reading to a dog.

Molecular epidemiology of trypanosomiasis in Ugandan cattle during the Stamping Out Sleeping Sickness control programme, 2006-2008

Hamill, Louise Claire January 2013 (has links)
Over the past two decades movement of cattle towards the north of Uganda has enabled the Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense focus in south-eastern Uganda to spread into previously unaffected districts. This thesis brings together important epidemiological data regarding the impact of mass cattle drug treatment on the point prevalence of several different species of trypanosome in a newly endemic area of human sleeping sickness. Crucially the findings illustrate mass drug treatment is effective in reducing the prevalence of T. b. rhodesiense in cattle, thus minimising the reservoir potential of these animals in the epidemiology of human disease. During 2006 a control programme was launched to halt the northward spread of this zoonotic parasite. This programme, entitled ‘Stamping Out Sleeping Sickness’ (SOS) proposed to reduce the prevalence of Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) in the newly affected districts by reducing the prevalence of this parasite in the main animal reservoir of infection – domestic cattle. Cattle were mass treated using trypanocides to clear infections. Previous work demonstrated the prevalence of T. brucei s. l. and T. b. rhodesiense in cattle was higher in the districts of Dokolo and Kaberamaido than in the other SOS intervention districts (Selby 2011). To determine whether animals in these areas were also exposed to pathogenic cattle trypanosomes samples were screened for the presence of T. vivax and T. congolense savannah using PCR. Chapter three of this thesis determined the prevalence of these trypanosomes in cattle in these districts. Before treatment had taken place the prevalence of T. vivax was 2% (4/200, 95% CI 3.57 – 0.12%) in Dokolo and 7.3% (21/310, 95% CI 10.17 - 4.24 %) in Kaberamaido. The prevalence of T. congolense savannah at baseline was 3.5% (7/200, 95% CI 7.08–1.42 %) in Dokolo and 9.1% (21/230, 95% CI13.6–5.7 %) in Kaberamaido. Monitoring was conducted three, nine and 18 months post treatment and both pathogens were detected at all time points. The impact the treatment had on point prevalence varied by trypanosome species and between the two districts. Several clusters of villages in Dokolo and Kaberamaido continued to report cases of HAT after the initial SOS intervention due in part to their proximity to livestock markets (Batchelor et al., 2009). In 2008 re-treatment of these ‘high risk’ areas was undertaken. Monitoring was performed before and six months after treatment. Cattle blood samples were collected at 20 village sites from ten ‘case-positive villages’ (from which human sleeping sickness cases had been reported six months prior to June 2007) and from ten ‘case-negative villages’ (no reported human sleeping sickness cases six months prior to June 2007). These samples were screened for all of the aforementioned trypanosomes using species specific PCR protocols. Chapter five details the results of this screening, and assessed whether re-treatment in Dokolo and Kaberamaido was effective in reducing the prevalence of trypanosomiasis. The re-treatment had a dramatic effect, significantly reducing the point prevalence of overall trypanosomiasis in the 20 villages screened from 38.1% (95% CI = 40.5 – 35.79%) at baseline to 26.9% (95% CI 28.96 – 24.97, p < 0.0001) at six months. Looking at each species separately, point prevalence of three out of four detected species of trypanosome fell significantly, including T. b. rhodesiense, which was reduced to 25% of its baseline prevalence. Finally the two SOS treatment cycles were compared both statistically and spatially with emphasis on trends at village level and the occurrence of mixed infections.

Animal Assisted Therapy : ett team i behandling och terapi av barn och unga

Lantz, Linda, Steénmark, Annika January 2006 (has links)
<p>The main purpose of this examination paper has been to do a review of recent scientific and evaluated studies performed on children 0-15 years of age, treated with an animal as an assistant to the therapist/professional. The key term is Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Our focus has been to describe in what fields these kinds of studies have been performed, what the results are and how effective they have been. As a supplement to our study we have performed 8 short telephone interviews with professionals in the same field of occupation corresponding to the studies we have summarized. Our results concerning the studies show that there has been a positive outcome in the treatment of children and adolescents and AAT. This agegroup show an increase in for example; social skills, communication and maintaining focus. The results in our interviews show that there is poor knowledge in the research done in the area of AAT, that AAT is not used in these areas in Stockholm though the interest in the method seems large. As theoretical frameworks we have used the biophilia hypothesis and Winnicotts theory of the transition object.</p>

Interactions between humans and dogs : Neurobiological factors relevant for the treatment of exhaustion-related disorders.

Sinisalo, Johanna January 2015 (has links)
Increasing evidence illustrates an involvement of stress in a large variety of physical and mental illness. Together with the evolutionary development of the social behavior in humans, the traditional interpretations of the attachment theory and the social support theory underscores the importance of affection, belonging and appreciation for human well-being. Not only can an imbalanced stress system be the cause of severe pathological consequences, insufficient social contact can also hamper recovery. Frequent usage of animals in various settings steadily illustrates both physiological and psychological benefits on both the young and the old, the healthy and the ill. Through the study of neurobiological factors, with oxytocin as a central mediator of social behavior and its  impact in turn on the stress- and cortisol system, this paper examines the possibility of animals to function as social support. The potential of animals to reduce the suffering in patients with stress related psychiatric disorders, such as the highly frequent exhaustion disorder, human-animal interactions might offer a non-invasive complementary tool to current treatment methods.

Djur i omvårdnaden av patienter med ångest : en litteraturstudie / Animals in the care of patients with anxiety : a literature review

Lindgren, My, Nielsen, Anna January 2013 (has links)
Background: The number of patients with anxiety has increased and causes often suffering for the patients. The registered nurse has a responsibility to ease patients suffering. Animals can be used in care as pet therapy, which branches into two main areas: Animal Assisted Activity (AAA) and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of animals in patients with anxiety. Method: The study was performed as a literature review based on twelve quantitative studies. Result: There was a reduction of anxiety in connection with animal interaction. The result shows mainly a decrease of anxiety for patients treated in psychiatric wards but also for patients treated in somatic wards were positive affected. Discussion: A reduction of anxiety indicates that the experiences with animals were calming for the patients. However, we cannot exclude that the change in anxiety levels depends on other elements such as activity, work assignments or an increased level of individual attention. Conclusion: Animals can decrease anxiety and the patients suffering. That knowledge is important for the registered nurse when integrating animal in the environment or in conversation with the patients. Consideration should be taken for patients allergic to animals.

Porovnání motivace a odborné průpravy u jednotlivých forem zoorehabilitace pomocí psů. / Comparison of the Motivation and Professional Background the Various Forms of Animal Assisted Activities.

TLAČBABOVÁ, Klára January 2015 (has links)
The aim of my thesis " Comparison of the Motivation and Professional Background of the Various Forms of Animal Assisted Activities" is to determine through literature, opinions of therapists and observation to determine what is the motivation, professional background and time demand to all forms of therapy. The first part focuses on the cross-section of views of the theoretical literature focusing on animal assisted activities. Here I describe the differences between different forms of animal assisted activities and I also deal with ethology of dogs. In the second part I find out through interviews and observations, I find actual evidence from animal assisted activities and I specifically discuss the use of animal assisted activities on the first grade of primary school. At the end of the thesis I summarize insights from observations, processed interviews and also from my own experience and I evaluate usage of animal assisted activities on the first grade of primary school.
