Jonas Mekas / Jonas Mekas

Hlaváčková, Hedvika January 2015 (has links)
The subject of this theses are the films of Lithuanian avant-garde artist, organizator and original interpreter of life, Jonas Mekas. Specifically I'm dealing with the development of his work from the complex film-diaritical sagas to video pieces presented on his web side. I'm exploaring where does he see the diference between the way he captures life and what we call documentary film, what does a reality means to him and how does he get closer to it's essence with the help of his camera. I'm observing how did the recent technical development effected his work - the arrival of video, computers and subsequently internet. I'm trying to understand where does diary-film stand in the frame of history of cinema and where is it's place in the context of the contemporary art scene.

Elektrické podniky hlavního města Prahy a filmová avantgarda / The Electrical Enterprises of the City of Prague and Avant-garde Films

Krejčová, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
This paper, based on archival and period media research, tries to describe the relationship between the Electrical Enterprises of the City of Prague and the Czechoslovak avant-garde in the 1920's and 1930's. The Electrical Enterprises of the City of Prague helped to carry out several exceptional film and intermedia projects through their regular advertising contracts, including the film Praha v záři světel (Prague by Night, 1928), Zdeněk Pešánek's light-kinetic sculpture (1930) or the short experimental film Světlo proniká tmou (Light that Penetrates Darkness, 1931). There are also screenplays in the company archives which have never been realized but demonstrate much about the relationship between advertising and art in the interwar period. The author emphasizes the role of the public's general fascination with electrification, artificial light in the modern city and new forms in the collectively shared public space.

Title: Development of Czech and Dutch architectures in the first half of the 20th century and their liaison Author: Miroslav Pavel Department: Department of Cultural Studies Supervisor: PhDr. Petra Hoftichová Abstract: This master thesis deals with comparison between the development of Czech and Dutch architectures and with a search for their liaison in the first half of the 20th century. The research is primarily focused on particular representatives of architecture, on their work and subsequently on responses to them abroad. The development of architecture is seen in the context of a historical framework which consists of the critical milestones of our history. Social, ecological, political and cultural determinants, which are presented on the basis of the historical framework, affect architecture as a material expression and a tangible artefact of a particular society. The research is represented by two seemingly self-contained evolutionary lines of Czechoslovak and Dutch achitectures. The evolutionary lines are connected by the personages of Czech or Dutch architecture or by the leaders of European avant-garde. Description of the avant-garde art associations and societies, which are the prime movers and innovators, constitute a significant part of this work. A notional shared peak of Czechoslovak and...

Poezie básníků Literární skupiny / The Poetry of Literary Group

BROUČKOVÁ, Veronika January 2007 (has links)
The submitted thesis concentrates on poetry of the Czech art group "Literární skupina", which was established in 1921. This thesis is divided into several chapters, in which the author interprets the poetry of single authors on the basis of several flag features. There are terms and motives of death and life as two inseparable parts of human being, religiousness and religion and shifting of the original meanings, further conception of an individual in terms of community. Another chapter deals with the motive of heart and reflections of sensibility and emotive involvement in interest of creation of "the new world". The last chapter displays reflections of "Literární skupina" by temporal critics and discussions between this art group and Prague avantgarde group "Devětsil". The author is interpreting the poetry in the context with expressionism, which meaning she feels in the wide word sense, not just as an artistic movement, but as a "stream", which goes through all spheres of human activity. From this point of view the group "Literární skupina" can be also seen - as an art group which was not distanced from expressionism, but on contrary in the beginning joined it via its speaker František Götz. The autor of this study analyzes the theoretical thoughts of "Literární skupina" which obviously in strong contrast to practical artistic gesture in poetry can be found.
