Game Entry to Swedish Game Awards : "Winds of Kahlara" / Spelbidrag till Swedish Game Awards : "Winds of Kahlara"

Vadi-Dris, David, Pasma, Miika January 2010 (has links)

This is a report that describes the implementation of a computer technical examination project at Örebro University. More specifically it is about how two students have developed a computer game as an entry for Swedish Game Awards, a competition for games developed without interaction from commercial companies. The game, titled “Winds of Kahlara”, is written for PC and lets the participants compete against each other over a network in a 3D environment. The graphical theme is fantasy and the players utilize among other things magical attacks to kill their opponents. The development itself has taken more than a year since the complexity of the game has required extensive technical research and graphical designing.
/
An analytical study of recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in the GCC states

Alenezi, Abdullah January 2010 (has links)
This study is concerned with the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards under the relevant regimes in the GCC states, both local law and international conventions. The easy enforceability of arbitral awards is considered one of the main factors in the success of international commercial arbitration. Thus this thesis not only attempts a comprehensive analysis of the requirements of and procedures for recognition and enforcement of foreign awards in the GCC States, but also evaluates whether the GCC’s laws and practices comply with best international practice standards, especially as embodied in the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. The thesis comprises of seven chapters. The first chapter examines the legal framework of the GCC States, and provides a brief history of the rules governing arbitration and the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Chapter two looks at general principles regarding recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Chapter three covers jurisdictional elements in the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in the GCC States. Chapter four examines the procedural steps demanded by each state for the enforcement of an award, looking particularly at the impact of relevant international conventions on these issues. Chapter five deals with the evidence which must be tendered and the conditions that must be satisfied in order to obtain the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in the GCC States. Chapter six examines the grounds on which a respondent may apply to dismiss an application for recognition and enforcement of a foreign arbitral award. Chapter seven then deals with the grounds on which a foreign arbitral award must be refused enforcement. The concluding chapter summarises the problems thrown up by the study, and suggests a common way forward for the legal systems of the states of the Arabian Gulf in dealing with these issues.

How predictable are the Academy Awards?

Stoppe, Sebastian 06 March 2015 (has links) (PDF)
By conducting an explorative study it is tried to determine whether a sample of film enthusiasts can produce a similar result in judging for the 87th Academy Awards for movies in 2014 like the actual Academy members or not. An online survey has been created and the votes cast by the participants have been tabulated. It can be shown that the results of the simulated awards voting in the survey are quite similar to the actual Academy decision. However, additional adjustments and further studies are recommended to ensure the results.

ChessCraft / ChessCraft

Hahne, Erik, Alho, Mustafa January 2015 (has links)
Procedural generation is a powerful tool for creating a large set of game worlds without having to design each one individually. With the proper implementation, this can allow an almost unlimited amount of unique game worlds using far less resource and time. Our task is to create the game logic and game map generation for a game that will be entered as a contestant in Swedish Game Awards, the biggest competition for game development in the Nordic Countries. We will be working in parallel with a separate group who will be implementing the networking side of the application, where the goal is to have a server where two players can play against each other from separate end systems. As the deadline for the competition approaches, we will then combine the two projects to a finished product. The game we are creating is a chess-influenced game that takes place in a 3D world. Two players will have access to different types of units that can be purchased by the in game resource known as credits, and the main objective is to defeat the enemy king. One game session continues until either of the two kings is defeated, or one of the players surrender.

The relevance of wine awards as a marketing tool : a study of South African consumer attitudes

Von Arnim, Christiane 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Successes at local and international wine competitions are frequently used to achieve differentiation in the market place. Acting like third party credentials, award medals are meant to support a producer’s claim of superior quality. Over the past decade, there has been a notable increase in the number of wine competitions to which producers are encouraged to submit their wines. Producers are promised recognition for their success, while the organisers gain from the entry fees that producers pay, regardless of their success. It is the purpose of this study to examine, whether in the mind of the consumer wine awards do indeed play a significant role in influencing consumer choices. Initially, a literature review was conducted to establish the role of wine awards in the context of wine marketing. Based on the findings, a survey was conducted among South African wine consumers. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The analysis showed that while wine awards are indeed recognised by the consumer as a cue that shapes their choices, their importance is relatively low compared to other cues. Yet, having established that decision-making is a complex set of interactions, wine awards do nevertheless play a role in supporting a decision in certain circumstances and for certain customer segments. Generally speaking, it was found that the more sophisticated a consumer is, the less regard exists for wine awards. Not only do wine awards have lesser power in shaping decisions, but also attitudes towards the concept of wine awards are more negative. Lesser informed consumers tend to take more guidance, and are less opinionated about the concept of third party ratings. It was also shown that a few industry-specific issues undermine the value and potential impact of wine awards. Firstly, the increasing number of wine competitions appears to dilute the value of wine awards as a marketing tool. Secondly, consumers are sceptical regarding honesty that producers apply in marketing their awards; an independent monitoring authority is seen as a solution to raise the profile of wine awards in South Africa, thus creating more credibility and power for this tool.
