The religious music of Gilles Binchois

Boucher, Joan Anne January 1963 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University / Although musicologists generally regard Gilles Binchois as a major figure in fifteenth-century Burgundian music, there exists but one publication dealing exclusively with his compositions, in this case the chansons, which have always been considered his masterpieces. Nevertheless, Binchois was a cleric who sang in, and composed for, the chapel of Philip the Good. His religious music outnumbers the chansons. This corpus of sacred music has, until now, remained uninvestigated in any depth. It is the purpose of the present dissertation to fill that gap [TRUNCATED]
