The main grass species used as ornamental plants are described in thesis Pathogenes of ornamental grasses. Treatment of the botanical characteristics is provided, with emphasis on their horticultural usage, along with the classification, disorders, damages and diseases of ornamental grasses. The practical part consists of a survey of presence of pathogens on two perennial grass lawns in the Botanical Garden and Arboretum of Mendel University. Included are the description of damages and symptoms of diseases, determination of pathogens and photographic documentation. The work concludes with recommendations for cure.

Niche differentiation is the most recognized species coexistence mechanism, of which, the temporal differentiation of species, i.e. phenological differentiation has gained an increasing interest of ecologists. However, as an important dimension of phenology, the phenology of growth has drawn relatively few attentions due to the lack of sufficient phenological data. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to examine potential role of temporal differentiation of plant growth patterns in plant coexistence. I first collected data on growth phenology of 381 perennial herbs in the Botanical Garden of Charles University in Prague within one growing season (in 2015). Using this database, I addressed the general patterns of growth phenology among perennial herbs. I distinguished two contrasting growth patterns: (1) species with early peak growth had high standardized growth rates in contrast to late species, reflecting the survival under forest canopy, where species are selected to grow early and fast before the development of tree canopy which restricts their size; (2) tall species showed later peak growth than short species, associating with (asymmetric) competition for light in open habitats, where the main selection factor is for tall stature, which cannot be attained early in the season. This graduation thesis deals with floricultural measures and maintenance management for the model object. The area near city Stupava in ownership of the Botanical Garden of the Comenius University was chosen a model object. In this area, planting of a new botanical garden had begun in the past. But this intention had not been implemented. Today, the area is rented and a farm Príroda is being conducted here. In this work, the natural conditions, historical progress and current state of the object were assessed. The floricultural measures were drafted according to the tree inventory and the tree classification, which reflect the current state of the wood species in the area. The work includes description of operational and compositional relations, growing elements, constructional and technical elements. It describes current maintenance measures and deals with the proposal for maintenance management.

This thesis deals with the basic characteristics of the České středohoří protected landscape area and advances proposals of excursions in a three important localities of Středohoří (Bílé stráně, footpath running through reserve Lovoš and Radobýl). Proposed excursions are appointed for secondary school students and describes both the route and the activities that can be performed during these excursions. There are two global biological excursions and one excursion is botanical. This thesis includes a summary of tuitional methods and didactical rules that can be used for excursions.

Botanická zahrada Teplice a její využití při výuce na střední škole / The Botanical Garden Teplice and its Use in Education at High SchoolFrolík, Svatopluk January 2019 (has links)
The main aim of the thesis was to create functional and practical worksheets that would be used on excursions by secondary school students to the Botanical Garden Teplice. Based on a study of secondary school textbooks, questions were created that repeated subject matter taught at the school, but also expanded it. The questions were incorporated into three types of worksheets dealing with phytogeography, outdoor exhibits and greenhouse exhibits. Guides were created for each type of worksheet to help the person accompanying students, who can be both an employee of the Botanical Garden or a teacher. The test versions of the worksheets were tried out on 131 students from four secondary schools during field trips. The results obtained by completing the worksheets were analysed to identify the shortcomings of questions. This and substantive comments by the supervisor led to an amendment of the questions that required it, resulting in the final version of the worksheets to be used for educational activities at the Botanical Garden Teplice. I have decided to include into my diploma thesis the history overview of the Botanical Garden. A number of major events and pitfalls accompanied the history of the garden. The chapter about the general characteristics of the Botanical Garden of Charles University Science Faculty is also comprised Inside my thesis. There are also mentions about the exposition distinction to greenhouse and outside part and also the significant geopark which offers the additional opportunities for education. I am presenting here the offered programs of Botanical Garden for schools and the public without omitting the sample material offered to the visitors. I have also included the description of the innovative manner of interactive education of biology using the information boards and QR codes placed on these boards. Considering the didactic usage of Botanical garden I have created the worksheets which complement the excursion plan. So I have comprised the excursion planning, creation of worksheets, assembling the questions and the pitfalls during their creation in the next chapters. Afterwards I have described the excursion execution itself, its evaluation and the possible modifications of worksheets. Botanical gardens perform a wide variety of functions, from which one of the most important is an educational function. They provide to visitors a large range of services such as guided tours, a variety of educational programs, worksheets etc. The same applies to the Botanical garden of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The main aim of the thesis was to prepare worksheets concerning expositions of aquatic and marsh plants in already mentioned botanical garden, verify them on students and adjust them to final forms. The results of the thesis are two different versions (spring and autumn) of the worksheets as well as author's solution and methodological manual for teachers. Within the thesis I also implemented the questionnaire survey where I dealt with the issue of teaching the theme of aquatic and marsh plants at Czech grammar schools and examined the attitude of teachers to field trips during botany teaching. This diploma thesis is dedicated to teaching botany, and is focused namely on lessons concerning toxic plants. The first part deals with creating of worksheets for secondary school students for field trip into Botanic Garden of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The second part compares effectiveness of classical lesson and the field trip. Students of the first grades from four secondary schools (grammar schools) were divided into two groups.The first group was taught by classic conventional teaching in classroom (control group) and the second group (experimental) was taken for the field trip to the Botanic Garden of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The effectiveness of education was measured by means of a knowledge test before the lesson (pre-test) and after it (post-test). Level of knowledge increased in experimental groups and control groups, however, the difference between individual groups was not significant. Teachers use this garden with different objectives and different intensity. This diploma thesis provides a summary of this using by the processing of the survey, which took place in elementary school teachers and high school teachers. This work is testing the following hypotheses: 1. Teachers with length of practice above twenty years use the field trip less than teachers with length of practice under twenty years. 2. Men use guided tours more than women. 3. High school teachers use geopark for tour more than elementary school teachers. 4. Teachers with length of practice above twenty years visit gardens other than Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague and the Botanical Garden in Prague Troja less than teachers with length of practice under twenty years. The thesis summarizes basic information about the field trip as an organizational form. The thesis also deals with the Botanical Garden of faculty of science Charles University in Prague, its collections, history, and possibilities of using in schools.

I focused on the opportunity for tours and educational programs for natural history and botany in elementary school and kindergarten in the natural environment of the beautiful West Bohemian town in the restored botanical garden. In this work was carried out a short questionnaire survey amongst teachers who have visited Bečov's botanical garden with their students. Based on the processing of the questionnaire survey, I found out what would be appropriate to add to the educational tutorials and I created a worksheet and suggested activities that could be incorporated into various educational programs.
