Organisms relevant for nature conservation dont follow administrative borders. Because of this there is a need for a landscape perspective within conservation and planning, and a need for the species of interest to have legal protection. Network analysis adapted for ecological purposes has grown to become a powerful tool for studying and communicating the relationships between species dispersion and access to habitat. In this study the following question is posed: How is the Osmoderma eremita and the Pernis apivorus dispersal possibilities in the small scale cultivated landscape of Borås affected by exploitation in respect to a) dispersal ability, b) habitat quality, c) position of habitat patches in a network? The analysis were based on municipal and regional nature conservation data, which in due to confidentiality is not accounted for in the report by maps, coordinates, etc. Several networks were established for both species to indicate how habitat patches are distributed today and how the species dispersal changes depending on which patches are excluded – this was done to imitate how exploitation can affect the species future survival and dispersion. The results showed that the O.e. is mainly inhibited by its poor dispersal abilities, followed by patch position, while the P.a. is the most affected by degrading habitat quality. The most important conclusions of the study were that the O.e. natural dispersal may be restricted but can be improved by linking small network components together and by maintaining the largest components. As for the P.a. it was concluded that a different type of analysis, focusing on its behaviour and need for different patches for different purposes, would generate more interesting results.

Inställning till arbete hos generation Y : En kvalitativ studie om arbetsvärderingar hos tio svenska individer födda mellan 1984 - 1994 / Generation Y's attitudes toward work : A qualitative study of ten Swedish individuals' born 1984 to 1994Lillieberg, Linnéa, Rosén, Tommy January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate prominent work values of generation Y. Ten working respondents born between 1984 – 1994 participated by convenience sampling. A qualitative research design was used together with semi structured interviews. Collected data were analysed with thematic analysis and the authors found three main themes that could explain values within generation Y: work centrality, social values and communication and motivation. Prominent work values for respondents consisted of: work life balance, development opportunities, and the ability to customize their work.

The Myth of Separate Worlds: A Quantitative Examination of the Relationship Between Organizational Attachment and Work-Nonwork InteractionFrancisca, Nichole, Seinsche, Katharina January 2019 (has links)
Aim: The increasing importance of employee retention and talent acquisition have necessitated the need for a deeper understanding of employee psychology influencing these factors. As such, the current study examines the relationship between individual organizational attachment and work-nonwork conflict and work-nonwork enrichment. Further interest was paid to possible moderating influences of work centrality, gender, number of dependents and number of contract hours. Design: Data was collected through online surveys. Participants were contacted through internet portals and selected business contacts at private companies. The study followed a cross-sectional design. The contributing sample consisted of 94 participants. Results: Organizational attachment styles contribute to differences in experienced work-nonwork conflict and work-nonwork enrichment. Anxious and avoidant organizational attachment exhibit a positive relationship with work-nonwork conflict and a negative relationship with work-nonwork enrichment. The relationship between organizational attachment anxiety and work-nonwork conflict is partially moderated by gender. No empirical support was found for the moderating influences of work centrality, number of dependents and number of contract hours. Implications: The results indicate that patterns of organizational attachment shape adult lives inside and outside of the workplace. Knowledge of how individuals experience work and nonwork depending on their organizational attachment allows for a sensitization towards individuality in the workplace. Catering to employees’ attachment needs could feasibly contribute to organizational viability and success. Novelty: Previous research has mostly examined attachment at work in terms of interpersonal attachment, while disregarding the role the organization can play as an attachment figure. While existing studies have examined the connection between (romantic) attachment and work-family or work-life conflict and enrichment, this study offers insights into how employees’ attachment relationships to the organization connects to the experience of work-nonwork conflict and enrichment.

Desperdícios e centralidade urbana na cidade de São Paulo: uma discussão sobre o catador de materiais recicláveis do Glicério / Waste and urban centrality in São Paulo: a discussion about recyclable materials collectors from GlicérioHirata, Márcia Saeko 18 April 2011 (has links)
Since the 1990s, economic flexibility has transformed the central region of the city of São Paulo in an area of conflict. On one side there is low-income residents desire for permanence, on the other side there are real estate market interests in a new valorization frontier. Setbacks experienced by organized social movements and the recent influx of international capital in the housing market seem to deny any possibility of action for political subjects. These factors also seem to consolidate the hegemony of neoliberal thinking as subjects are left with no alternative to the order already in place. Marked by an industrial view, current and increasing urban social analysis on the social mobilization processes of the 1980s allow us a clear understanding of the social production of the city. Nevertheless, these accounts do not contribute to overcoming the increasing social fragmentation perceived in the city. Despite these factors, the contradictions of the social production of this urban space enable collectors of recyclable materials the permanent use of the urban centrality of the Glicério area. This use seems to exist only as a mere residual social product. Nevertheless, in Lefebvres account on the production of space as part of the reproduction of social relations of production, the use of Glicério by collectors shows up as an experience that has reshaped the central representations of the commodity fetish. This perspective on the use of this urban space allows us to view beyond industrial relations and the production of surplus value, as well as the determinants of state institutionalization. Through this urban point of view, a differential social cohesion shows up as a possible urban praxis, reopening the horizon of the possible, in practice and theory.

Fkankenstein, monstros e o Ben 10: fragmentos da formação inicial em Educação Física / Frankenstein, monsters and Ben 10: fragments of initial training in Physical Education.Nunes, Mário Luiz Ferrari 01 December 2011 (has links)
In times of globalization and neoliberalism, the relationship between the local and global and between speculative capital and the state has created changes in the public sector and in the ways of regulating the conduct of the private life. This fixture has directly influenced the license courses and has implications for education. If, in one hand, it is trapped to the dictates of the economic frame, on the other, it can promote training engaged with the affirmation of the difference and with the defeat of social inequality. This battle waves to the need for addressing the university and the curriculum as a way of cultural politics that affect the construction of identities, highlighting the difference. After all, what is in evidence is the identity of the personadocent who will form future generations of the country. This research discusses how the discursive and non discursive apparatus present in the curriculum of the License in Physical Education can form individuals and operate representations among the corporative culture discourse such as efficiency, flexibility, performance, merit and, sensibility towards education such as social justice, recognition and citizenship. As a reference, it was used the contributions provided by the cultural studies towards the investigations about the curriculum and the incisive writing of Stuart Hall about the centrality of culture. To this discursive framework it was added the notion of governmentality formulated by Michel Foucault and the analysis of Stephen Ball on curricular policies, among others. An ethnographic study was conducted in a private higher education institution in the course of two years in different times and places: in the classroom, we were interested in the subject position taken by students facing didactic situations and conflicts arising from the pedagogical project based in the Physical Education course, the true parameters and the strategies of negotiation were extract from the disciplines; and from the daily life of the institution it was inferred modes of regulation of the marketing education which intend to operate individuals to adapt to the world economic order. The result of this machinery has been the formulation of Frankenstein (curriculum-creator) and its creatures (monsters, heroes students), future teachers. To object the different meanings of the intervention of egress in fields so diverse and distinct, the curriculum-creator hybridizes official speeches, educational tendencies, the history of the component, the transformation of education and the public sector. For this reason, individuals become multiple, fragmented and contradictory, that sometimes adjust to the order of personal project and turn into commodities to act in accordance with the rules of the market, and other times are the disruptions created by the same mechanism, promoting simultaneously the criticism to the initial teacher training and new strategies for their capture.

Comparing consensus modules using S2B and MODifieRMcCoy, Daniel January 2019 (has links)
It is currently understood that diseases are typically not caused by rogue errors in genetics but have both molecular and environmental causes from myriad overlapping interactions within an interactome. Genetic errors, such as that seen by a single-nucleotide polymorphism can lead to a dysfunctional cell, which in turn can lead to systemic disruptions that result in disease phenotypes. Perturbations within the interactome, as can be caused by many such errors, can be organized into a pathophenotype, or “disease module”. Disease modules are sets of correlated variables that can represent many of a disease’s activities with subgraphs of nodes and edges. Many methods for inferring disease modules are available today, but the results each one yields is not only variable between methods but also across datasets and trial attempts. In this study, several such inference methods for deriving disease modules are evaluated by combining them to create “consensus” modules. The method of focus is Double-Specific Betweenness (S2B), which uses betweenness centrality across separate diseases to derive new modules. This study, however, uses S2B to combine the results of independent inference methods rather than separate diseases to derive new modules. Pre-processed asthma and arthritis data are compared using various combinations of inference methods. The performance of each result is validated using Pathway Scoring Algorithm. The results of this study suggest that combining methods of inference using MODifieR or S2B may be beneficial for deriving meaningful disease modules.

Geografias em movimento: território e centralidade no Rio de Janeiro joanino (1808-1821) / Geographies in moviment: territory and centrality at Rio de Janeiro in D. João VI period (1808-1821)Lahuerta, Flora Medeiros 09 October 2009 (has links)
This research tries to investigate the spatial changes that took place in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the stay of the Royal family, after escaping from Napoleon. The scale of the city itself is the subject of the first chapiter that focus on the adaptations and adjusts needed to transform the colonial city into a court city. On the following chapiter, the mechanisms of occupation of the region polarized by the city in analyzed, including the exploitation of the borders (sertões). Finally, we go back to the scale of the city, but now to think of it as an intercontinental port that articulates terrestrial and maritime fluxes, and also as the capital of a vast kingdom. This experience of changing roles between colony and metropolis had some important consequences to the process of independence developed in Brazil. A political process that considered the territory as one of its most valuable basis.

Evolving graphs and similarity-based graphs with applicationsZhang, Weijian January 2018 (has links)
A graph is a mathematical structure for modelling the pairwise relations between objects. This thesis studies two types of graphs, namely, similarity-based graphs and evolving graphs. We look at ways to traverse an evolving graph. In particular, we examine the influence of temporal information on node centrality. In the process, we develop EvolvingGraphs.jl, a software package for analyzing time-dependent networks. We develop Etymo, a search system for discovering interesting research papers. Etymo utilizes both similarity-based graphs and evolving graphs to build a knowledge graph of research articles in order to help users to track the development of ideas. We construct content similarity-based graphs using the full text of research papers. And we extract key concepts from research papers and exploit the temporal information in research papers to construct a concepts evolving graph.
