This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the Romani children and their motivation for learning. It is based on a widely believed idea that motivation of the Romani ethnic group in general is different from the vast majority of population. In practice this problem may manifest itself when the children in question are unwilling to learn, they disrupt the educational process, they refuse to go to school and discontinue their further education as such. The theoretical part of the paper is focused on describing Romani people and their particularities connected with the family environment in which the Romani children are brought up and which strongly forms their attitudes. It also determines the amount of motivation for learning as a starting point for success in terms of education. Motivational factors depend on the value of education in the broader socio-cultural context of the Romani minority. The practical part of the thesis is based on the ethnographic research. The purpose of this study was to conduct a descriptive and exploratory analysis of Riverside County's Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) and its ability to prepare foster youth for successful adult transition. A vital component of this study was the exploration of perceived preparedness through the eyes of the participants enrolled in this program.

The work concerns with media enviroment and life style of children from the children's homes. The empirical part is based on theoretical part and it explores their media habits, media access, media owning and parent mediation. This work compares a sample of 48 children from children's homes and a sample of 62 children who live in a family. Quantitative research is supplemented with qualitative research in a form of semistructured interviews with tutors in six children's homes and with mass discusion with children in one of them. The main aim of the work is to approach which role do media play in every day life of the children from the children home's. Comparative research answers the main question: Are media habits of the children from the children's homes different from the habits of the children from families and which strategy of the parental mediation is supreme and how the mediation differs from the mediation in the families.
