O gênero Hippelates é diferenciado, em chave, de outros gêneros, próximos, de Oscinellinae. Notas sobre a biologia, importcia médico-veterinária e controle de algumas de suas espécies são apresentadas. Hippelates flaviceps ( Loew, 1863) Aldr. 1931 e H. Viridiniger End., 1911 são redescritos, com ilustrações da genitália masculina e feminina. / Description of the family Chloropidae and the sub-families Chloropinae and Oscinellinae, summarizing their agricultural, medical, and veterinary importance and the possibilities of utilizing some of their members in biological control. A key for some Oscinellinae genera with a hind tibial spur, including Hippelates Loew, 1863, is given. Notes based on the literature on the biology, the medical-veterinary importance, and control of some species of Hippelates, are presented. Hippelates flaviceps (Loew, 1863) Aldr., 1931, and H. viridiniger End., 1911, are redescribed with illustrations of male and female genitalia.
